I used to want to see the earth from space, but I know I could not handle the discipline required to go as part of the major space agencies, but I loved pictures of earth taken by astronauts, especially the Apollo photos, I actually wrote a letter to Edgar Mitchel and he wrote back to me with a handwritten and signed letter, which I thought was really noble of him, considering my letter to him had things written about me looking at their photographs while under the influence of LSD and magic mushrooms, he actually valued my insights, I kind of lost the interest in wanting to see earth from space when I had a big Eureka moment, on LSD, I was staring up at the stars and realised for real, for the first time, that we are actually in space, on a planet surrounded by space, very odd, it affected me a lot.

IIRC, the height requirement is what prompted Massimino to retire once the shuttles stopped flying. He's 6'4", which is enormous for an astronaut, and I'm not sure they could get him in or out of a Soyuz without the jaws of life. Also IIRC, the Mercury 13 ended up passing a more rigorous set of exams, mostly because the examiners so resented them that they cranked up the difficulty insane levels. Ex. the men had to endure being put into a sensory deprivation chambers for a little under an hour, but they pretty much put the women in there and left the building for a few hours. The women still passed all of the exams. I hope they pick you -- and I think you stand a better chance than you think. You can't possibly be more irritating in close quarters than ANY military pilot. :-)

I popped by because I was wondering what you’d been up after seeing your comment on a _Jay Foreman_ video about longitude. Interesting to see your perspective on space medicine. I think KZread promoting popular creators’ comments is iffy but yo!

you know where the irony is... UK left the EU and can still get an astronaut with ESA, Bulgaria is still a part of the EU and ESA doesnt care - we Bulgarians still cant apply to become astronauts 😭😭

Sorry - already happened imo w/ Chris Hadfield! His viral video performing Space Oddity on the ISS a few years back was done in his personal time & account (not on NASA or other gov body's behest!) so I reckon it counts. I'm not just jealous that I'm too tall to ever pass the physical requirements! ;-)

Well, excluding her slightly higher age, Hanna Reitsch was an extremely capable female military test pilot who would have performed with excellence as an astronaut. Though people tend not to mention her very much.. I wonder why? :P Okay, maybe there may have been some very good political reasons..

I am one of those who actually is very interested in your heart rate flexing! I feel resting bpm is something quite many health concious ppl try to keep an eye on, and I am one of those. I am very jealous of your 45bpm. (I vary between 60-67)
