At age 72 I have struggled with sleep for the last 15 years. I’ve never tried melatonin but about 6 weeks ago I started taking L theonine and Apigenin about a half hour before bed. There’s been a big improvement. If I wake at night I am now almost always able to get back to sleep fairly fast.

Thanks for sharing that! I'm 75, with similar sleeping issues, and on the recommendation of someone on here, I sometimes take Taurine. And it helps also, but only when I remember to take it, lol. But I still wake up after about 4 hours anyway.

Fifteen years on midnights until the late nineties. Lived on four hours during the mornings, and an hour or two before reporting to work. Sleeping nights but not more than four hours. I retired and now have trouble staying asleep, but I'm better than I was.

My husband works those night hours - home about 9am...sleeps 4hrs & goes back to work @5:30pm (45min commute) -- 4 nights a week. Sleeps & lays around for 3 days off; still on similar night hours. It's really rough! 2as easier in his 30's & 40's. Not his 60's!

I’ve had terrible insomnia for over 20 years. I’ve tried everything- herbal preparations, warm milk, dark rooms- every single thing out there-including melatonin- nothing helps. Eventually I just gave in and take sleeping pills now. I hate having to do this. But survival is what I have to do. Sure wish you had of told us tonight what your magic potion is. And how do I get off sleeping pills? Any help would be so appreciated. I love your shows- and find them very helpful usually sure hope your next one will finally help me figure out my sleep issues. 🙏🏻

I can't remember the last time I slept soundly. Without prescription meds, I don't sleep more than 5 hrs fitfully. Looking forward to your next talk. Hate the meds, and looking for another pathway to rest.

I have been diagnosed w/Parkinson’s Disease (2021) and I have at least 1 night a week where I may only get 2-3 hrs of sleep. I don’t have REM Sleep Disorder, thank goodness, but I be memory problems and word retrieval difficulties. I do take 5 mg of Melatonin right before bed. My Speech Therapist is really encouraging me to get more good sleep, as that really can affect memory. I’m not a young chicken…age 71. I look forward to all of your videos. Thank you.

I can't wait to see your next video. I was taking 10mg of Melatonin and it gave me terrifying nightmares, to a point I was afraid to go to sleep at night. I think, maybe, I was taking too much?

My Restless Leg Syndrome gotten worst starting from my 50 years old. Tried so many things without success. Currently need to take Gabapentin in order to sleep well. Tried to replace it with melatonine without success too. Melatonine get me to sleep for the first half an hour and then am woken up due to RLS. When we don't sleep well, it just screwed up the body and mood. Hope one day, modern medicine will have a cure.

Thank you once again for you knowledge imparted to us. Sleep varies for me and I will be 77 in a couple of weeks. Some nights I can fall asleep and stay asleep w/o having to get up to P and other nights I lay awake until wee hrs of the morning. I try not to take anything. When I am over anxious I will take a low dose Xanax. Once in a while, I will take a OTC sleep aid. Mostly I try not to take anything. I do read from my iPad at night set with a dark background and low light lettering. I go in at 9ish and fall asleep if I can by 11. See you at the next video on melatonin. 👍🏻😊❌

The sleep stages you talk about are a little bit different than what I see on my iPhone, which are awake, REM, core, and deep. Could you discuss this and maybe correlate them? Thank you.

Even if nothing they can do/redo after so many years, they can sure as heck give you proper meds to help symptoms! Stay awake meds or help you sleep meds. There's both, Rx. They may fuss & fight about it, but why do we even have those Rx meds, if not to help patients with symptoms causing problems?! It is not addiction if you need the meds to have some quality of life! That's what they were made for,as long as not abusing the Rx!! You'll need to fight for yourself - well, I did. (I'm not very assertive tho.) I THINK that my life stolen since my 30's cuz' I needed an amphetamine to stay awake at all & new doctors would take me off it & I had to start over every time -- run their own tests, own opinions, etc. Meanwhile, am sleeping constantly, no life, sleep thru appts at times if no help to get there. Worst thing was knowing there IS a med, WAS on it, but have to jump thru hoops & wait to get back on it, maybe. Psychs all gave me clean reports that am NOT an addictive personality; not lying, etc. Meds will be helpful. Some Drs did, some still no. When was 29 they said, "when you're older"...30's, 40's & a "war on drugs", that went after Drs too. The 1 good thing Kaiser did (after 2-3 yrs) was to put me back on my meds so could be awake & have 4-5 good hrs a day. What is addiction fetish!? If you're on blood thinners, are you addicted? Cancer drugs? BP meds? Chronic illnesses, you take meds for life ~ they don't say, no - you may get "addicted" to it; you monitor it over time to see if still works & patient is ok. Sleep too much or too little, you need to push. Now, in my 60's they have the gall to say now I'm old & is normal to "slow down".😡🤬 1 thing that may help with needing to sleep & don't need Dr's OK, is the NEW "sound" recordings. Beyond nature sounds now. They actually know how to shut brain down with certain sounds - it's actual science-based thing & works for many, but takes few wks to get used to it & let it work. I don't know where you buy the CDs or ?? (Wish had 1 to wake me up & keep me awake all day!)

I have always needed a bit more sleep than most. I blame a 7:30pm bedtime for whole childhood ~ oldest of 4 kids & we all had to go to bed at same time. BUT... My prob ISN'T not able to sleep ~ oh contraire! I sleep way too long & cannot wake up by myself, nor hear alarm clocks; only touch wakes me, shaking me, etc. Always a "hard sleeper" & tough to hold down job & have a life this way ~ have slept for days; guess I sleepwalked to bathroom? IDK After Drs didn't know what else to do for me, sent elsewhere & was told that I sleep "WRONG"(!?!) Don't know why. I DO KNOW that you can wake me 10mins after I go to sleep & I am already dreaming. Apparently not normal? Is for me tho. In fact, no matter when, or how often I'm woke up, I am ALWAYS dreaming at the time! Every single day I wake up from a dream. Take a nap & wake me 10mins later, I'm already dreaming! It's insane! I am always fatigued - it's way beyond tired & can never get enuff sleep. Been this way for many years & now am 64...life was over when can't wake self up! Can't wake yourself up is scary, have no control over your own life & cannot work...Or anything else! Can't live alone; keeping friends is impossible cuz' they have lives. To wake up from dreamland is like head is foggy & heavy + SO tired all the time! My husband hates that he has to physically wake me or don't wake up at all! At 1 point, was in bed sleeping for years -- angry & determined to make it stop (mind over matter?). Did no good & nothing changed. To those who have trouble sleeping... wish I could give you a dose of whatever's got me! I used to pray for insomnia...only way I will ever catch up on stuff I needed to do! I always heard that old people wake up at like, 5am & can't go back to sleep. They're up. When will that kick in?? My whole life went away. I do have q normal, boring life...in my dreams. Literally. Any thoughts? Will check phone 2morro - off to bed now. (Sigh!)

@@valerijohnson2839 1 Dr said that long ago, but most over past 3 decades just said "a sleep disorder" & that I "sleep wrong". Now, has been over 1/2 my life & now I have only 1 carotid artery left for blood flow to brain & it's @ 50%-60%...so doubt will get any help now. ***Anyone given choice of Kaiser Permanente [HMO], or something else insurance ~ don't take KP unless you're in perfect health. HMO stands for "Healthy Members Only"... (joke, but not funny!)

I cannot believe you are talking evolution. That is very absurd. We are humans, made in the image of God.
