This is the case for everyone using the Latin Alphabet. This includes everyone who speaks a Latin or Germanic language. We can read each other's texts without understanding them.

Persian is easily recognizable with the letters, پ, چ, ژ, گ.

ستتعلم الفارسية بسهولة فهي لغة بسيطة غير معقدة لكن هناك كلمات عربية في اللغة فارسية يختلف معناها عن اصل الكلمة مثلا فعلا في الفارسية تعني الان 😂 واصلا تعمي ابدا 😂 هناك بعض الكلمات لا تلفظ كما تكتب مثلا خواهر تلفظ خاهر انا تعلمت الفارسية في 6 اشهر فقط ايستگاه لتفظ ايسگاه

An Arab who reads in Persian is the same thing as an Englishman who reads in French, apart from a word every now and then you can't understand anything.

Love and respect from Iran. It's a shame how some Iranians act as though the Arab conquest has occurred last week and still got hatred and hostility toward Arab people... Unfortunately they are so mad at the tyrrany they've undergone by the islamic clergymen (who are Iranians by the way) that they can't focus on altruism and friendliness and think all Arabs are negative and they should avoid everything Arabic! As a Persian native speaker (I'm Iraninan), Arabic is so hard for us to learn and have a conversation with an Arab. We can read Arabic and understand it just a little bit but we can't talk and communicate. Also grammar of the Arabic is much harder & more complicated than Persian. We learn Arabic at our schools but at the end, we won't be able to talk.

Yes, would be very close. Iran may use fewer Arabic loan words in Iranian Persian than you find in Tajiki or Afghani Persian because the Iranian government tried to purge Arabic from the vocabulary for political reasons as a result of the Iran-Iraq war

As a native arabic speaker that is learning new languages, it has never occurred to me before how hard Arabic is, since i have passively learned it and able to practice it everyday but after learning new languages i started to compare arabic grammar to said languages and hell i'm so glad i was born in an arabic country because otherwise i would've never been able to learn it, its so complicated. but i can imagine once you get the hang of it "which is not very easy to do" it would be very fun to practice!

This is correct. Even though there are Arabic words in Persian, there is always a Persian word that can be used to replace it which is what people do now.

The word for teaching in Persian isn't "Taaliim", we use "āmoozesh" which is a Persian local word And for "Esm" we have "Nām" 5:34

Yeah I was confused as well because I'd never heard of "Taaliim", since we use 'Amoozesh', but we use both Esm and Naam, Naam is more of slang which I think was taken from the English 'Name', as a lot of new slang is just farsi-ed English words.

That's awesome dude. My parents are both Persian but I was born and raised in America, I'd probably be so excited if I met you in a grocery line and you spoke Persian.

Well, I speak Persian, English, Turkish, Azeri and have studied Arabic a bit. This is some really accurate information and lemme tell ya this. Learning English was faaaar more easier for me than learning Arabic. The root and templates are really complex in some cases and grammar is difficult. But all it takes is resilience so don't lose hope folks!

The comments on this video is helping me out tremendously because I am learning Arabic.....a lot of unintentional advice here....great video again Paul. Thank You ☺️

As a Persian speaker (Iranian Persian), I cannot understand Arabic but I can understand some of the keywords due to shared-vocabularies and sometimes get the general point. But learning Arabic is quite a different thing. I've already learnt English, Russian and German; so if I want to compere, it's like if an English speaker tries to learn a language with Russian grammar AND French vocabulary. But it’s worth trying! I'm gonna start learning Arabic very soon. I am an Azeri Iranian and Persian is my favorite language so much that I speak it more often that Turkish. Similarly Ottomans were fond of Persian as they used a fusion of Persian, Arabic and Turkish in their official written documents, and the language was widely spoken by their elite.

assimilated for speaking the national language of my country, or for choosing one language over another? Your usage of the word "assimilate" isn't quite correct here. Azeri ethnic group are Iranians, even more Iranians than Persians, we have been on the Iranian plateau for 5 millennials, our language has changed from Azeri to Turkic, when we were assimilated by survival necessity to the invading Turkic tribes from 10th c to 16th c, when the assimilation was competed and the ancient Azeri language was no longer spoken. Just giving you examples on how to use the word. Remember there has been only one country which survived 5 thousands years since humanity got so advanced and organized that decided to invade far reaching lands and create empires. Iran has been located in the middle of East and West, and started the age of empires and even one can argue globalism.

Here in Morocco, as in all other Arab countries, we do not talk in classical Arabic, but we study it at school as our main language of study. I do agree that it's not the easiest language in the world but if you took your time and if you are patient you can easily get into it. ;)

Yeah noticed, worked in Salé for 5 months but the Arabic dareeya they spoke did not exist from books, they learn it from speech only, but the movies they watch are Egyptian dareeya and the languages at school are French and Arabic Fousha

Furthermore, as a matter of fact, the original equivalents for the words such as sälām ( hello ) and ésm ( name ) are doroud ( hello ) and nām ( name ) in Persian language.

What strikes me is the phonological change of the tr- combination for the word three in Indo European became an s in some Iranian languages

You can use "Nam" instead of Esm (Name), "Amouzesh" instead of Ta'alim (teaching), "Bi" instead of Bedune (Without), There are always Persian words for the Arabic loan word that they are as common as the Arabic one.

+SargarmiBazar all Iranians are Persian and all Persian are Iranian. Persian can Lor, Azari, Tajik, Balouch, Kurd and more... same thing can applied to their languages too. Like, Parsi, or Parthi, Kurdi, Balouch and more are Persian or Iranian languages. Persian should not refer to Farsi speakers only. Azari language not Azari people is the only language which has no deep root in old Persia or Iran. Similar to Turkish language in today Turkey. According to some research the official turkish language does not belong to today's turkey.

Another nice video! I'm from Afghanistan and my language is Persian. My name is Ali, an Arabic name. but my family name is a persian word 'Danesh', which was mentioned in the video and means 'Knowledge'. this shows how these 2 languages have influenced each other. I want to add another point about differences between Arabic and Persian. It is not only 'Waw' or letter (و) that is pronounced differently between these languages. there are other letters too, and actually there are letters in Persian that there is no use of them because they are pronounced exactly same. For example in Arabic, we have four types of 'Z' and they are (ز، ض، ظ، ذ) and three types of 'S' and they are (س، ص، ث) and each of them are pronounced differently from each other. like the words (ثم and سم) are pronounced differently in Arabic (Sam and Tham). In persian, though we have all those letters, but we pronounce each of them similarly and they are exaclty like 'Z' and 'S'. just like the previous example (سم and ثم), we pronounce both of them as سم (sam). and we pronounce all of (ز، ض، ظ، ذ) as (ز) like 'Z' in English. and (ت ، ط) we pronounce as 'T' and also some other letters. @Deyvi :v Afghanistan and Iran belong to the same country for a long time. but now are separated. so now we cannot same Afghanistan people are Iranian. But, we speak the same language yes. only dialect and accents are different. and, in some parts of Afghanistan we have languages that Iran doesn't have. like Pashtoo. Also parts of Iran has some languages that Afghanistan doesn't have. like Lor and Kurdish languages.

I'm Persian and I can understand most Arabic words when they are written but when they speak I hardly get any cause of the accent. I think that's the education system's flaw cause instead of focusing on teaching us Arabic that we can actually use they taught us the grammar which is useless when you don't know the vocabulary and also our education was only based on books and no tapes or videos were involved in the process so it's not a big surprise. Both languages are beautiful and I love them both

Zikos Honestly here is the problem: we have Quran as a subject in school till fifth grade and they teach us with a tape but then when we have Arabic replacing it in sixth grade they teach it with no other tool than the book... So the only Arabic that I hear regularly on TV and on the street is Quran which is absolutely beautiful but it's not exactly how people speak Arabic nowadays. It is actually quite upsetting that they don't teach us properly in school Arabic is such a beautiful language

@Olga moon I'm not comparing. Arabic is my mother tongue and I enjoy it the most. Persian is my second language a and I find it beautiful too and enjoy the literature. Many languages aren't gendered. That doesn't mean that they are not rich!

As an Iranian, I should say that the number of words we recognise when hearing Arabs speak is actually very few. Also, the advantage that similarities offer when learning Arabic is very very small. Arabic is an extremely difficult language to learn due to its complex grammar and conjugation. Farsi, as you correctly mentioned, is far simpler due to various reasons.

I am Bengali and I can understand a lot of Persian words than it is the case with Arabic. That's cuz Bengali and Persian have a common origin and are in the same language family. Bengali also has a tonne of loanwords from Persian and some from Arabic as well.

Kobulione we in Iran also use Nam , and Nam khanevadegi . We use them all interchangeably

Compared to many other channels the comments on my channel are generally pleasant and intelligent. But for some reason, KZread brings out the worst in some people. Some of the comments I see are horrible and I delete them. But I only get notifications of new comments not of replies, so I don't always see the bad replies. Some people are just incredibly negative and are addicted to the feeling of being angry.

Hi, I'm iranian and we are taught Arabic in school and I think you should know it's really difficult for every student to learn Arabic. The Grammer is so much different and harder. And about the loanwords yeah sure we know some of Arabic words already but the meaning of so many of Arabic words entered to Persian have been changed which makes Arabic even harder and in some cases confusing

That is because Persians belong to an ancient people called the Aryans or Indo Europeans. Sadly Iran was brutally colonized by Arabs and the old ways were mostly suppressed and forgotten...

Thanks, very nice explanation. One thing that is mentionable: For most of the arabic loan words there actually is a native persian version, which is either used in another context or not used often because it sounds antiquitated. For example you mentioned the word for "Name" which in native persian would be "Nam". In every day slang the word "Esm" is much much more common. But "Nam" is used nearly in 100% of formal correspondences like news, books or formulae. If you would ask someone on the street "Name to che ast?", he would definitely think you are a time traveller. And the same thing happens, when "Esm" is used in a formal context

Great video! BTW, just to let you know, we have original Persian equivalents for all of the words you mentioned in your video, but sadly, they are not used very often in every-day conversations. And about the scripts: The current script of the Persian language was not borrowed from Arabic language, to be more specific, after the Arab conquest of Persia, Persian and Arabic scripts merged with each other, and thus this new common script was born.
