@@alii3210 yup thats their whole brand! self producing idols (with a self producing fandom too sometimes haha). long post ahead! seventeen is a 13 member group and woozi (in this vid) is their main composer and producer alongside bumzu who is a soloist/producer in the same company. but besides woozi, other members have gotten involved in the writing and producing as well, such as vernon, hoshi, scoups, etc. their albums usually contain b sides which are split based on unit: vocal, hip-hop (rap), and performance (dance) teams. usually there all members write their respective songs. besides music production, they also do a lot of other stuff too. particularly hoshi (and dino) from the performance unit who are heavily involved in choreography. hoshi choreographed some popular tracks like don't wanna cry,, pretty u, and according to people this one too. dino has also choreod unit songs like flower, jamjam, etc. most performance team unit songs are choreographer by them both as well as the other 2 perf team members jun and the8. woozi in particular was supposed to be part of this performance team choreographer line at first but they decided he had enough on his plate already with the music side. but from time to time he still does choreo too. not only the performance side they're involved in, members mingyu and wonwoo from the hip-hop unit have even directed their own music videos. mingyu directed the MV for snap shoot and wonwoo did for their song holiday. they kinda brought this self producing concept to the next level as in their variety show "going seventeen", in which most of the activities came from them as well, they did this whole magazine shoot with just the members. someone being a stylist (IIRC woozi), someone being the photographer (wonwoo), someone else designing the cover (mingyu) and so on. this is probably just the tip of the iceberg of their self driving capabilities as i haven't even talked about their general leader scoups who would attend company meetings since way back to make sure his members thoughts and concerns were passed on to the higher ups of the company and all that. sorry for the super long post! hope this at least got you more interested in looking up seventeen! their recent album is truly a masterpiece IMO. (if you're wondering why carats are also a self producing fandom, we were given DIY albums for their 2020 comebacks and for this cb they gave us an audio kit of samples from their album for free to experiment and make music with!)

Many don't often talk about how Vernon has been doing a lot of producing and song writing lately, and I think it's great to watch how Vernon's unique style meshes so perfectly with Woozi's romantic one. One thing I love about an artist is the true to his/her/their concept. SEVENTEEN is the living definition of "I make the music I want and love." Woozi, one of the members (the blond boy) is the one who is in charge of the songwriting on all the songs, with the help of BUMZU and the PRISMFILTER firm. Since the pre-debut, he has stood out for his incredible talent and ability to write, compose and produce songs, and he has done it ever since. SEVENTEEN's discography is wide, from ballads, to EDM, punk pop, R&B, etc. And the best part: everything is self-produced. The 13 members of the group help to compose the songs, to define their concepts and the style that they are going to test. They are even known because one of them (Hoshi) created many choreographies for the group with the help of members of the dance unit (Dino, Jun and The8). SEVENTEEN is the definition of an authentic artist. Woozi once said "we do not join the trends, we do what we want" and they always show that it is like that, behind the scenes preparing their music, practicing the dances ... more than 6 years in the kpop industry and they remain faithful themselves and with fresh and unforced concepts. There's it all: powerful vocals (like DK and Seungkwan), angelic vocals (Woozi-Jeonghan-Joshua), dance movements inspired by martial arts (Hoshi-Jun-The8-Dino) and high-energy raps (SCoups-Vernon-Mingyu-Wonwoo). In addition to the AWESOME teamwork. They consider themselves as a family, so they know how listen to all the proposals to choose the one that suits everyone. Isn't it cool?

There are other groups who participated in their music before SVT like Bigbang, BAP, BtoB, block b, bts (to name a few) but media doesn't give them the title because they only involved in the music making while SVT they heavily involved in everything they put out including choreography, contents, merch, lightstick etc. That's why the korean media and netizen give them the title. And fun fact, they self-produced not because they want to get the title as the self-produced group but because their company is in the verge of brankcruptcy when they about to debut and couldn't even afford to give them resources. A producer, composer and songwriter who knows the strengths of the artists so well can create these kinds of masterpieces. Woozi doesn't just make any kind of music. He 100% puts into consideration every single important aspect that makes Seventeen SEVENTEEN - the members vocal strengths, the group's performance power, etc. And it's not easy considering that there are a total of 13 members to arrange for. He is literally a music genius. He has always been humble as he knows every single member of the group contributes to their work and this is just something he does best, but it's seven years worth of music - over a hundred songs to his name. More than anyone, the members will always love the work he does. Happy and grateful knowing that he is continuously inspired and staying confident in creating more amazing music because of the support he gets. And because of that, Carats are also the luckiest fandom to have such an amazing Vobo and, of course, SEVENTEEN.

It’s so much better than interviewers asking the same questions again and again while the members sit in chairs and repeat their dream collabs. The difference when it comes to producing a song made by the artist himself is that, he/she can feel and see the fulfillment in each music he made until the time all elements that he envision from the very beginning comes to a final product..modified to a very delicate version until he was satisfied that it was not only pleasing in the ears but visually and performance wise.. Seventeen produce songs based on the theme they talk about then expand it to further emoliate the message they want to share to their fans.. They put themselves in the personification of their fans.. They try various things in their music, compositions, performance and also their whole album in each era.. I really admire how they explore in their music production and openly had an opinion from the time they think of their theme performance and to their promotion in general.. At that point, they monitor almost every aspect and showcase more of their talents thru their musics.. Thank you for this interview and caratland have all the glory for Seventeen

Really, really adored this interview! It was nice seeing Woozi in his element, and I think having Joshua and Vernon there really helped him speak comfortably. Also, it's really interesting to see how much overlap the music creation has with creating the physical album (photoshoots overlapping with finishing the songs) and how that might affect the creative process for them. I loved this album so much Seventeen! And I'm looking forward to your concert and Ainochikara!

"A song is fully completed by my standards, not just when the track itself is finished" is a sentiment a lot of musicians should follow. Hell, not just musicians, but all kinds of artists. Like Rorschach said "never compromise".

woozi really is the best self producing idol / other seventeen members too/ . the way his eyes shine talking about his work and the way that he thoroughly explains the process in such a proud manner. He has really accomplished a lot not only for seventeen, but he has also composed/produced songs for other idols. He deserved that AAA best producer award and not only that he was also the youngest to get that award which is amazing, and carats are very much proud of.

I'm very impressed with these guys. And I love the fact that they create their own music. I have a lot of respect for them, as well as my nephew's taste in music! 😜Lol. I am much older than most of you guys here in the comments, but I'm definitely a fan now. I wish these guys the best. The sky is the limit for where these guys can go. Music is a universal language.

i'm a recently new fan of svt (your choice era *smiley face*) and i think sometimes people who have been a fan of an artist for a longer time tend to get upset about not knowing every single detail about them and sometimes bash on new fans for not knowing a certain song but i'm honestly very happy i started stanning when i did. i'm a big fan of learning and getting to see what it takes to make a song/album and from what i've seen, fans getting this type of content is new. newer fans, like myself, get to see that now than before. yes, they are a self-producing group and have seen it in "inside seventeen" episodes but it's very nice to see media that focuses music and popular culture sit down with them to explain this! i'm slowly going through their discography and interviews, that's just the way i work, and i'm very grateful for this new type of content. idk maybe we'll see them on the cover soon!!

in caratland, we have a tendency to say that we all discover and stan seventeen at the right moment in our lives. yes, later carats often say I wish I stanned sooner but it's really ok. there is also a lot out there for you to learn about them. personally I appreciate it when baby carats really go deeper into their early works because I do know some prefer to keep up with current present content. I understand in some sense because with seventeen, the context of their work in that moment it is released or produced amplifies its significance; and when it's in the past, it can be hard to resonate with. but seventeen being who they are, they never forget their past and that's why they reference old things as inside jokes. regardless, as long as you enjoy their music sincerely because they are just so sincere and passionate about music and their art, when you become a carat doesn't matter. I too am someone who likes to take my time to go through things personally. I was like that too, a couple years ago just after an ode was released. although there have been times I do regret, I truly think I stanned them in a point of my life and their lives that I could not have done so earlier. and then there was a switch that came on and I've just been in deep since and I don't regret any of it. anyway, enjoy your dive deeper into the diamond life!

I started looking at them and become a carat in 2017, and I never think that I would love them until now. the way they delivered about their work with love and how carat (fans) response it feels kinda give a strong relationship in a good way. you know, when someone works with their heart and love it can be this beautiful. even I never meet them, maybe soon. they are my role model, especially woozi. you can see how bright and fire when he talks about what he loves .. for seventeen, thank you for making good music and showing a great personality so I feel growing up together with different path ❤

SEVENTEEN's main producer WOOZI is joined by his co-lyricists for "Rock With You", American members JOSHUA and VERNON, for this in-depth interview about their producing process. There were four things that stood out to me: 1) The way WOOZI (together with co-producer BUMZU) is so meticulous at how they he wants their song to sound, that even the demos sent over by their Western producers are sampled and chopped and inserted into the parts of the song they feel is right, layering them up into a final product that WOOZI is satisfied with as "SEVENTEEN's sound". It's a mark of how authentic SEVENTEEN's sound is with their creative and artistic control, with them always having the final decision on every aspect of their work. 2) I noticed this immediately even when I first heard "Rock With You", but it's sung at an incredibly high key, especially SEUNGKWAN's and WOOZI's parts. Usually songs with high registers are reserved for power ballads, but they decided to go all out with their vocals for a rock song. It's their song with the highest key yet. It's a mark of how SEVENTEEN keeps pushing and challenging themselves with each comeback. 3) WOOZI wasn't kidding when he mentioned before that he gets his inspiration anywhere, and it's fascinating to learn that he got the inspiration for "Rock With You" from the Hip Hop Unit photoshoot for Attacca. It's a mark of how SEVENTEEN is always conceptually cohesive in everything they do, not only through their music, but their visuals and aesthetics as well. 4) Lastly, VERNON said it best when he mentioned that SEVENTEEN's music is made complete through a performance. It's why WOOZI wasn't satisfied with the sound until he can picture it as something SEVENTEEN can give justice to through a full performance. It's a mark of how SEVENTEEN stands out in the industry as the true Kpop performance powerhouse, because their music is made whole by the incredible performance that they themselves put together, too. And this truly is the mark of SEVENTEEN's artistry: they are only ever satisfied with the work they do when all of these elements-sound, vocal, visual, performance-come together as a whole. In everything they do, SEVENTEEN is always a complete package.
