Not sad at all. It's a very effective way of maintaining brand values, which are necessary in order to charge the prices that Rolex does. well, i dont aggree.. some people bough that watch 40-50 years ago and never choose another, its saying for something. their watches is something that is considered a family heirloom. it is something you would remember, like 'that watch wore my father or grandfather' and they are part of family history. you would not consider some cheap 10$ casio (nothing against casio) electronic watch, but a 50 years old rolex (and still running) bough by your grandfather so many years ago and when your grandfather sadly leaves the family, will be heirloom and passed to the family. The Aston dealer couldn't have been nicer and more helpful and just handed us the keys no questions asked. We ended up buying the Aston. We are going to test drive the newer model in a couple of weeks. Moral of the story - don't judge a book by it's cover. Interesting video. I think there was less screening and less hassle (besides the wait time and trying to decide what options to choose) when I bought my Porsche. Lucky that I already did and am over the Rolex phase in my life. If I had to go through this current sh!t to get one, I don't think I would've gotten them. I feel sorry for people just getting into it. They are great watches. Tough as nails, and really a good all around time piece. Sort of the finely mass crafted chinos and button down shirt of the high-end watch world. They are definitely NOT the hand tailored suit of the watch world. I guess in a way the whole Rolex craze is much in-line with the street wear market. Where hyped up (but still mass produced) items are hard to get and flipped on the re-sale market.

Screening process to buy a Porsche?? I believe the screening process is if you can fog up a mirror and want to pay for one.
The AD sells to a person with "purchase history". That person is a grey market dealer who flips the watch for a higher price. The AD gets a commission and both of them profit. At the same time it creates an aura of exclusivity because an average sucker has to suffer before he's able to buy the watch. Rolex could increase the production ten fold if they wanted to but they perpetuate this scheme because they like it. It's a scam. Let me not even start about their service costs.
My Invicta Rolex Sub 9937OB gets serviced every 20 years. It cost £170 which is a considerable investment given the mod sapphire crystal cost an extra £25

Told him it had been like 2 years and still haven’t heard back. Within a couple weeks he gave me a call and said he had one for me. I paid the full retail price. I was a bit Naïve until later when I realized it was the other major purchase that made me eligible.
Very interesting
"Only Rolex authorised dealers are permitted to sell and service"... err, no. You can't stop anyone getting their Rolex serviced by anyone they want, and you can't not "permit" anyone to service a watch (although you can be unhelpful by not making spare parts easily available). And if the servicing costs from Rolex are as massively overpriced as the watches themselves, why would you want to pay through the nose? (which begs the question of why you would want to pay for a Rolex in the firts place..).
THANKS AGAIN
🤣🤣🤣 When they don't want to sell it to me, I step over to another brand. So simple.

not really, Rolex are actually very humble company and don't really care how much money you have, in fact they have not so expensive (not cheap tho, Rolex is not cheap) but affordable entry-level watch that almost anybody can (and should) buy. If you look at history of Rolex, in 50-60s they sold basically to working class people watches as a work tool, and only later starting from 80s they started to make very expensive luxury watch, yet the quality of their watch is basically the same all across they boards. I mean, if you buy a Rolex and would wear it for most of your life, would it matter if it costs 3000$ or 10000$? how many times during your lifetime you would buy a car? and car is more expensive of that entry-level watch... having a Rolex is not about how much money you spend on that watch (even tho some people think it is), but rather choosing an amazing watch made by extraordinary craftsmen for everyday use and appreciation of pure engineering skill of craftsmanship as well as knowing that this watch will most likely outlive you and pass to your children as a memory of you and become family heirloom.
Not quite right... but fair approach. Each Rolex AD is unique in how they treat/sale to his clients. Plenty of them sell directly to grey market dealers... The waiting list list its a mere excuse
They’d have to get me into the store first, and I don’t really see that happening ever again. There are several watches that are better and cost less.

Yup I went David SW. I’ve gotten great rolex pieces from my AD few years ago and we hit a stalemate. Got a DD 40 , DJ41 blue dial and Wimbledon from David SW. Tremendous company

Absolutely! The sad side is that the AD’s are still making a killing because they are selling to the grey market !
They sell to grey market flippers who buy as many as they have and try to act like the flippers are evil! They are working us from both sides.

This is sooo true ! The AD’ s are playing the public . And making $$ from selling to flippers & the grey market while maintaining the exclusivity of the brand on a retail level .
Let me let you in on a little secret. The Ad had nothing for sale so I moved over to the Breitling case and bought two of those. And it’s funny that my older Breitling kept better time and less maintenance than my old Rolex….
Bullshit. I purchased a sports model reference 16570 by an authorized dealer after a very short waiting list. No background checking whatsoever. I was only required to pay in full a couple of days before the actual in person delivery.

I got mine in two weeks with zero history with Rolex or the AD. They called asked if I wanted it. I told them yes and paid when I went in to pick it up. If there are ADs doing what the video says then the people need to stop jumping through their hoops and go somewhere else. The ones complying are the problem then they complain afterwards.
Bought both my Submariner and Day Date at my local Rolex Authorized store.... had zero issues.

Me too. I guess went both got lucky.
Registered my interest with an AD for two Rolex models just yesterday, 2-3 year wait I’m told (Rolex newbie). Fingers crossed!

There’s a jeweler near me that sells used Rolex watches. You could have one today if you wanted. No need to wait. I’m sure there’s someone like this near you too.

What models
Just played the game with Mayors, I have serviced all my watches with Mayors (all new from grey market) and yesterday I bought a Cartier from them for my wife. They told me that I need to keep them happy. Let's see if this BS works, I have been 2 years on the waitlist for the sea dweller.

Go somewhere else. That's not how all of them work! I have no history with Rolex or the local AD and they got me the SD43 in two weeks. All I did was go in and talk to them.

Don’t hold your breath with Mayors ! Their waitlist is a game . I bought a DJ for my wife from them and have been on their waitlist for two years …. Nothing ! Went to the grey mkt and got a new SD43. A few bucks more but I have it and am loving it !
Bought my Sub and have worn it since 86. Was ready to retire it and go with a Sea Dweller Redline. Went to Finks and to be put on the list I had to buy 5k of jewelry in the store. Eff that. Nobody is going to hand me that crap. Had the Sub totally rebuilt and bought an Omega Seamaster 300m blue face. No BS from the dealer, very appreciate for my business and got a beautiful watch to boot. If Rolex yanks your chain and you can afford any watch you want, just buy a traditional Blancpaine 50 Fathoms, go to a Rolex, and when the snotty salesman gives you the run around, lift up your wrist and check the time. Bid him good day.
Seriously Rolex should make you sign a contract now to prevent reselling!

Contract wouldn’t hold up. Financial hardships happen. But withholding/voiding the warranty would - flipping wouldn’t be as lucrative if the 2nd buyer knew he would have to pay if anything went wrong.
I didn't know these guys sold this way.
Cool
This sounds like BS to me...if you got the money you should be able to purchase what you want.

I act after watching this video it be better off just to go buy an omega it’s a better watch you don’t have to go jump through all their little hoop he do
Or buy pre owned
I solved this will he sell to me problem. I bought a Grand Seiko Spring Drive.
I had a Sub for years and every time I wore it someone would ask if it was a fake. That didn't feel like prestige and that's why I sold it. I'd rather have a glass eye than another Rolex.
Excellent content is very amazing and good recommended for the all users of How Rolex Authorized Dealers Choose Who They Sell To
The cost of a Rolex is the ticket price plus your self-respect.
The workmanship is great, it's awesome to have a watch like this, it's just great!

Rolex is great, and I enjoy my Datejust 126234, but Rolex is hardly watchmaking at its finest. JLC, Patek, and A. Lange are far better at the technical art of watchmaking. Even Grand Seiko is more innovative when it comes to movement manufacture.
It wasn’t that complex for me, it’s insane to see how intense this can be
They literally pick and choose who they sell watches to they don’t go down the list it’s all about the relationship they have with the clients. My AD told me in the coming months Rolexes will produce more watches with there new factory opening soon
Are you sure because I am a first time buyer and I asked three different ADs if they would like to take a payment for a 36 OP. They said they’re not allowed to take advance payments anymore. Are they sidelining me?

Currently we don’t take prepayments or deposits as we can’t guarantee delivery. We got alot of slack from not being able to deliver watches in a timely fashion. -(current Rolex employee)

@@khampton1659 Hypothetically, say I go from being my current broke self to winning the lottery and just want to go in and buy an OP36mm or maybe an explorer... do I have to jump through all the hoops? Obviously I'd fall through the cracks if being judged by the high demand supply matrix.

The problem is that all the watches in a Rolex store are display models. They are not for sale. There may be many people in line for the watch you want that are naturally going to be ahead of you.
Some day i wanna buy Rolex Cosmograph Daytona...right now i have casio G shock glacier gold ☝️😊
I have gotten 2 Rolexes, 1 from AD and 1 from GD, and 3 (coming to 4) pateks from AD. I am interested to hear how Patek ADs choose who they sell to. Looking for things i haven't heard.
They refused to sell a Rolex Submariner to me, even after I had the money, it hurt my ego. So now I wear a Rolex Fake and people think it's real coz I'm rich. So if we all start wearing fake Rolexes or homages, it will cause massive damage to their brand and their sales. The high headed snob morons at the top management will then come down from their high horses and BEG us to buy. Support good fakes!
0:26 Vienna Kärtner Straße schopping street in downtown hahah i live there
Screw Rolex and their ADs. Anyone should be able to walk into any AD and order any Rolex at MSRP. No games. I sold my Rolex Air King a couple months ago -- bought it new 30 years ago. I will never give the brand another nickel.
I went into a shop to register my interest and never heard back haha
What is the story for Jomashop or watch finder. You can buy a 2022 Rolex brand new with papers. You will pay about 1,500- 2,000 above retail. My two questions This video is about buying at retail and paying extra would be considered a convenience fee? What if you buy a few Rolex’s from these type of online stores and then go to a Rolex store, should I assume Rolex looks down on these type of purchases? The last time I went to Rolex (6 months ago) it was like trying to get inside of a club in Miami with 10 guys not paying for VIP. Once they asked if I own a Rolex and I said no, I was sent to someone else and I did not like the feeling as if I was wasting their time.
Actually quite easy. Decide which model Rolex you would like to purchase. Go to your local AD. Ask if they have it in stock. If it is in stock--purchase it. If it is not in stock--have them order it and it will come in once available. The AD has tons of overhead just like every business and wants the sale very badly as well.
Zero buy history with my local AD and had my watch within 1/yr.
If you ever want to sell to the rich……tell them that can’t have it. Then watch the ego take over.
My experience is great and happy ending as well. Only 20 days I got my first Rolex DJ 36. However spent almost 30K hihihi by the end you should be ready to pay OK 👍 😊
Don't get duped by Rolex marketing.
China: come come buy my rowlek.. Plenty plenty for everyone..
I had a guy that ordered a Rolex and couldn't wait, he bought one before his arrived. It took 10 months to show up. He ended up selling it to me for about an extra $1,000. That's his story anyways.
