@Joe Nuxhall kind of. Shoeless Joe may not have known what he was agreeing to. Pete blatantly violated a rule and voluntarily accepted a banishment. The Astros blatantly cheated and nothing was done to stop it, and they're unrepentant. Yes they should be banned, and at that point, it'd be a worse punishment than Rose because he volunteered.

I'm a massive A's fan and have been telling people they're cheating for years. When you follow baseball extremely closely you learn things. This was known in the community by a TON of people. Shame on the mlb.

The biggest problem plaguing the sport is the sanctioned (allowed) cheating by pitchers. I noticed an uptick a few years ago and now its all over the sport - and the ball. The cheating happens by the concoctions and substances that pitchers are putting on the ball, giving it a lot more spin. If I recall, Bauer said something in the media years back - effectively saying its a problem and that MLB is doing nothing about it. So that's a tough deal. If MLB does nothing about it, then teams will eventually demand that all pitchers need that extra 300RPM on the ball and then basically, if you don't cheat you may end up off the roster. Its BS and puts honest players in a tough spot.

suspend EVERY PLAYER involved.....many people lost their jobs, where traded, or lost their careers entirely because of the Boston and Houston cheaters.

I feel like MLB put a gag order on players from talking about the cheating. I wonder if the higher-ups will penalize Bauer for interviews like this.

Imagine how Kershaw is feeling? MAN! That poor guy was soooo frustrated the Astros hit everything he threw! Also GOOD point made by Bauer about the free agency. It is not fair. Let's not view this as a game to game thing but all the repercussions it brings to the game. Also, a ENORMOUS shout out to the Nationals that beat the Astros 4 games in their house!

I believe this scandal is bigger than most realize. When Verlander pitched at home for the Tigers, it seemed like every other home start he was on the verge of throwing a no-hitter...he was completely and consistently dominant. Then he would pitch in Cleveland or Chicago and they would light him up for 7 runs in two innings, or he would give up 4 home runs in three innings...completely out of character. You'd see some .270 hitter sit on a nasty 12-6 curveball and hit it 400 feet, or take a 96mph fastball low and away and smack it into the opposite field gap. I would always comment that it seemed like the hitters knew that pitch was coming.

When it comes to the niche rules of baseball I'm clueless. So if im standing on second base and strictly from experience learn the signs the catcher is flashing to the pitcher and flash then back to my teammate at bat, am I stealing signs? Or was it the fact the Astros were using video to steal the signs that makes it illegal?

The league used the Astros as examples..many teams in Major League Baseball cheat in one way or another. This accusation was ridiculous (very petty). They had a great team and were the envy of every team because of how good they were.

I admit I didn't know. But watching them in Houston it was crazy it was very much like watching an entirely different team. I do remember thinking "it's like they know what's coming". Or "Sale just threw a 99 mph fastball at the neck and he hit it out."

I’ve often wondered how organizations that do this sort of stuff would do in an equal setting or games with as few of rules as possible. Not just in baseball but in every paid sporting events.

As a baseball dummy I have to ask: Why was the Astros’ away batting average higher. And the only stats I’ve heard that are different is a -3% Ks at home and stolen bases on breaking balls.

I grew up with baseball in the '60's and it's been hard living with the changes to the game, players, and the cheating. The game I loved is gone (and no one will care because they didn't see it) but on the bright side, those born today won't care in a few years and the cheating will probably have morphed to something even worse. I already note all the time the attitudes about cheating that people in their teens to 20's have now. You just grow up with it so it's just a fact of life and hear it justified as " it's smart play". This isn't over and we've only scratched the surface of the level of cheating going on and where it's taking us now.

This aged well...how's pitching without that "sticky stuff" working out for you?

This is actually good for baseball. I haven't watched a game in 15 years but I'm paying attention to this. It's waaaay more entertaining than anything that happens on the field.

We should boycott the upcoming MLB season until they really do something about this.

That’s a great idea I wish the fans, US the people buying tickets actually stand up and demand a fair game. If we went to the store and bought a defective product wouldn’t we return it and expect our money back???

Bauer's one of my favorite non-Dodger pitchers, pretty much Zack Greinke's natural successor. He'll always get my respect, especially after what the Astros pulled the last few seasons. >;-)

@@DTV98 Well the documents say different my dude. Stopped early 2018. Not saying it was right. I'm a die hard fan and it fucking sucks. It pisses me off so bad that the best memory of this team is tainted with this cheating scandal. They don't deserve the benefit of the doubt but you are wrong about 2019 unless new info comes out.

Some things need to come out to keep the game fair to players and fans. It's a powder keg for Asstros eventually removing the undeserved title and MVP of Tattuulve.

How about creating crosses the line when one team (home team) can set up this and have an unfair advantage over the other team...pretty simple.

The most watched game next year is going to be the Astro’s vs the dodgers 😃

The leading trash can team Houston ASStros will fail miserably.

Bauer is an actual genius. He doesn’t even need signs, he knows every pitch he is going to throw to each player in order and in every situation. The signs his catcher throw to him could be absolute BS and they have a pregame plan setup knowing what’s coming for who.

Look on the brightside, this year. We get the following games : Oakland and Fiers vs Astros 19 times. I wonder if there's a correlation between stats jumping and number crunching using the fangraphs tools to see -who- exactly cheated the system by looking at batter vs pitch, hard hit%, etc. I'm sure over the sample size of 2 years, there will be plenty of juicy data to see who the cheaters were, or at least find likely culprits.

I'd like to see stats on swing and miss, the last 2 seasons, compared to upcoming season, top 5 batting avg. Players on the as-holes, I mean stros!
