The World Cup was always going to go to the Middle East or South/Southeast Asia because of FIFA's very strong desire for regional rotations. There are very few countries in the Middle East that could afford it, and that rules out the bigger but poorer countries in the region e.g. Egypt, Jordan, Iran (sanctions) etc....Turkey is technically in Europe and the South Asians play cricket, not football. Only Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar are real prospects, and the Saudis were too conservative politically (MBS wasn't around yet) and for fans (see the impromptu beer ban). None of the SE Asian nations wanted to bid, and so the only real competition in the region was Australia but the timezone differences (same problem for Japan/SK) made TV scheduling difficult, as that was a massive problem in 2002. The US, Japan & SK already had their own tournaments, so they were long shots to begin with. Qatar was always the favorite before the corruption, but the money took care of things for good.

But it's simply not our battle to fight corruption and dirty money is how these companies have always ran despite transparency that we want or however much we push them the fans of this sport are simply that fans have never had any power in the structure with which FIFA or any governing body in the world of soccer is managed you can complain all you want and set bladder and the rest of the oil tariffs will sit back and laugh because it's the way things will continue to be done. Because quite frankly that's the only way they've ever been done..

Johnny, your promotion in this video is a scam. Other KZreadrs and sleuths have found that buying a 1x1 foot of land in Scotland does not make you a lord. You can't own a small plot of an estate and be a lord. Only the owner of the entire estate can have that title. In fact, Scottish courts have already ruled on this and the Established Titles company is simply lying. The Leagle Eagle made a video about it today. I like your videos, but if you want people to take your channel and information seriously, please vet your sponsors. It could make others question the authenticity of your channel.

It's not entirely fair to frame it like this. Johnny does say "you're considered a lord" which is different to saying that you're royal. It's like buying a doctorate's title and then you're considered a doctor of astrology and you can call yourself that as there are no legal protections on these titles. Also if you think about it for more than two seconds it would be very stupid for every homeowner in Scotland to be a royal so it's not that horrible imo. Probably still more on the scammy side but not really harmful imo.

If you can't make your point with accurate information that also uses supported conclusions you are no better. Tom makes a perfectly fine argument for the problem with that particular Harris video and it has nothing to do with money. Guess what people can do things that are bad, wrong, and harmful and fully believe what they did was right, and beneficial. Evidence consistent with a proposition is not evidence for a proposition. Yes I have my problems with Johnny Harris. But at the end of the day, Harris simply may not know that established titles is a scam. The fact that you almost certainly have thought of that possibility and dismissed it and instead are assuming that Harris is being malicious and taking their money knowing its a scam makes you worse than anything Harris has done. I will take a genuinely misinformed person who believes wrong things even if they are spreading propaganda because they are misinformed. Over someone who assumes another human is being malicious without actual proof of corruption. I hope that you honestly hadn't considered Harris could just be ignorant. If thats the case I also hope that you stop and think. 'What other conclusions have I jumped to based on not thinking of an alternative'. Interesting how South Korea and Japan submitted their own bids for the 2022 World Cup. Because they did the exact same thing for the 2002 World Cup. The reason they ended up co-hosting in 2002? Well Mexico was the only other nation besides them that wanted to host, but FIFA said them hosting was a long shot, so it was between South Korea and Japan. South Korea entered the race in response to Japan doing so as a political rivalry. South Korea and Japan were going all out on an expensive PR blitz to try to outdo each other. While then FIFA boss João Havelange supported a Japanese bid, the UEFA and AFC sought to come up with a better solution. To avoid conflict, they approached the two nations and said the 2002 World Cup would ONLY happen IF they shared it. So reluctantly, they both agreed (FIFA even suggested North Korea should host some matches as part of reunification talks; but that was ruled out). But like with other World Cups, the 2002 one doesn't come without controversy, as South Korea cheated their way to the semi-finals as they got the referees on their side.

  • @nutzhazel

Only thing is I wish you had touched on Russias bid in 2018 a bit more. England and USA were clear cut front runners for 2018 and 2022 respectively so touching on that could have been very informative. Also the biggest reason why Qatar spend so much money (200M+) is because they didn’t have any of the infrastructure to host. Surely the number will drop back down significantly for the 2026 WC hosted in North America where stadiums and hotels already exist.

I've just read up on how Michel Platini admitted that the draw for World Cup 1998 was fixed to increase the chances of France (Host Nation) and Brazil not meeting one another until the final (providing both teams won their games along the way). This was done to create a Dream Final of Brazil (defending champions) Vs. (Host Nation) France. I sometimes tell people that they don't understand how the world and life within it works. Many things presented to us haven't happened organically, even some of the choices we think we're making, have already been made for us.
