I’m sorry, the speed of sound = Mach is 340 m/sec on the ground level or around 1000 m/sec on the altitude of 11km. Kinzhal is flying on the high altitude so 10 Mach is probably around 10km/sec. It is still a very high speed but it will take around 7 min to fly 4100 km.

Since missiles are a lot cheaper than laser, Russia could send tenths of missiles and destroy the laser (and whatever it tries to defend) while spending a lot less.

@@brianfoley4328 Hypersonic missiles have existed, yes.. bot only ones that climb into space and fall from there, defense systems have been created to defeat such missiles, those systems work by predicting the flight trajectory by looking at it's launch curve and then calculating a point of intercept... This one is completely different, it's launched in the atmosphere, and doesn't have a clear predictable trajectory path while still reaching the same speeds without having to climb out of the atmosphere to do it. This indeed is, extremely impressive. If you're not impressed, you likely don't know all that much about missiles and their limitations.

Kinnzahl is only the short range export version of the Iskander IRBM launched by air. It's just a big rocket that can maneuver to avoid defenses. When the US and UK hypersupersonic come they will be air breathing scram jets, they'll have 10 times the range, half the weight and there won't just be a handful of them. Like a lot of Russian stuff its big and clunky to get into service quick but essentially affordable outside a few show pony areas.

Also in an interview by The Economist on June 13, 2023, "The 30-year-old Patriot operator recalls a moment of applause, joy and expletives as the Ukrainian air-defense officers realised they had made history that night of May 4th. The Russians’ “unbeatable” Kh-47 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile was not only beatable; but it was actually travelling at “only” around approximately 1,240 metres per second, a third of what the Russians like to claim."

@@comitatus5337 Sorry. X-51 was only an experimental unmanned scramjet. Nothing to do with missiles. It would have been used for spying. The US built only 4, as it was a failure. The project by DAPRA was cancelled. It had first flight in 2010. Now no wonder, it was cancelled. The US always tries to develop its equipment too quickly. That's why so many fail.

@@user-nj5si7ms5l im not so sure myself, s500 is a very capable anti air missile system, basically eating bombers for breakfast but if the 5 km/s speed is true then yes, s500 will be able to intercept these hypersonic missiles easily.

@@Nikowalker007 I’m not too sure about the claim however, usually it would just obliterate the warhead completely, a half meter hole from a 100 kg warhead interceptor is questionable for me but you decide it yourself, could just be the kh101 that Russia uses regularly compared to the kh47. I don’t usually take any sort of news at face value

Nukes dont directly hit target, they are extremely precise and sensitive devices. They are usually programed to detonate 50-150 m above target.

Actually just the impact alone is enough too split anything in half, but too some how detonate before it hits the carrier or for that matter above the carrier group would damage everything and radiate the entire area.

It would be a waste of a expensive nuke. Overkill. The kinetic energy from this weapon hitting it with a couple of hundred kilos of conventional explosion would break the ship in two instantly

the Dagger hypersonic missile has nothing to do with a ballistic missile. This is an aviation version of the Iskander missile, and just like the Iskander does not fly along a ballistic trajectory, but maneuvers along the plane and height. That is why, as well as because of the hypersonic speed, there is still no means to intercept such missiles.

@@Dallasbird1975 Don't talk about a topic you don't understand. THAAD is a mobile ground-based anti-missile complex for high-altitude transatmospheric interception of medium-range missiles. Do you understand the meaning of the word "altitude transatmospheric"? This means that a target flying with hypersonic speed in the atmosphere of THAAD will not be able to hit.

@@Dallasbird1975 Russian hypersonic missiles do not have ballistic trajectories. Zircon is a cruise hypersonic missile, and Dagger is a pseudo-ballistic missile that maneuvers in 3 planes.

NST doesn't apply to tactical nuclear delivery systems.

I think the Russians can make the Bolter possible just scale down the Kinzhal into a 45 to 50cal and make a gun that can handle it.😂

I think SU-34 cannot carry the Kinzhal missile. They are developing a new hypersonic missile that will be smaller than the Kinzhal, it is called Gremlin, it will be able to be carried by SU-30SM, SU-35, SU-57, TU-22M.

welp. i dont think anyone claims these rockets will be used on high speed moving targets. Not to mention there is no high speed moving target, that can warrant use of such expensive rocket. Main targets are: bunkers, ammo storages, commander posts, aircraft carriers. And other targets, that are immobile or slow moving. Because just as this rockets has no time to change trajectory - it's target has even less time to move away

@@4411825 More long range attacks focused. Risking less soldiers on the ground. Russians were using a soft hand phase because asov was using civilians as shields. Now that's most civilians are out of the way, they will remove the gloves. But it might be more complicated than that. They will cleanse one city at a time, so asov tactic to make them stretch their troops thin will stop working.

the problem maybe lies in the fact that in the terminal part of its trajectory it has to slow down Accuracy and speed are linked The more the speed the less the accuracy Most accurate cruise missiles are all subsonic I guess There is a solution ... stealthiness If a missile is stealth then it could be difficult to spot even if it is very slow

@Godzilla Eat sushi Kinzhal doesn't need to sink the aircraft carrier. Just imagine the nuclear warhead damaging the flight deck of aircraft carrier. It sounds just like an ammerican antiinfantry land mine that doesn't kill but just cuts mans foot of. The radioactive piece if steel that is not capable even protect itself. And if carriers nuclear reactor is damaged the things are going even better. Any way almost all that crew members that have left allive after the sucsess attack will have the radiation sickness.
