How Powerful is The Humvee 2 CT Hawkeye 105mm Howitzer?

How Powerful is The Humvee 2-CT Hawkeye 105mm Howitzer?
The US Army has awarded a firm-fixed-price contract to AM General to deliver two Humvee 2-CT Hawkeye Mobile Howitzer Systems (MHS).
The systems will undergo characterisation testing with the US Army. Soft recoil technology (SRT) will be integrated onto the platforms.
AM General and its partner Mandus are responsible for the SRT integration. SRT technology is used to reduce the firing loads for direct and indirect weapons systems, allowing combat systems to meet ‘emerging requirements’. It lowers the total weight of the system, increasing agility and responsiveness. The Humvee 2-CT Hawkeye 105mm Mobile Howitzer System (MHS) is the lightest weight, most highly maneuverable self-propelled howitzer in the world today.

If you look at the stamps from Australia since the 60's, almost every year sees the issue of military themed stamps (Gallipoli, Coral Sea, Milne Bay, the Boer War, heroes, different types of medals, ships, aircraft and army vehicles and equipment, etc). That's just the stamps but the prepaid envelopes are the same. The movies and TV and books highlight the Australian involvement and casualties in the Dardanelles (even though more British troops died there and there were more French, Indian and Gurkha troops involved than the number of Australian and New Zealand troops), Tobruck, Crete, Greece, the Western Desert, New Guinea and Borneo campaigns are often made out to be Australian soldiers and Australian killed and wounded, but every campaign listed above was only partly an Australian operation. The number of Australian prisoners of war who gave in to the outnumbered Japanese in early 1942 is usually not mentioned by those who are proud of the country's military history, but I have noticed that some Australians think that the courage and determination and endurance of men who fought in WW1, WW2, Korea, etc is in every Australian person, just because they have been brought up in a culture that is proud of its military involvement around the world throughout the last 150 years, even though they have no idea of how different young men from 1916, 1939, 1950, etc were without doubt much hardier, able to persevere in terrible conditions, physically tougher and more robust, and would have felt shame if everyone else went to fight overseas and they declined to fight, they valued their reputation and their self respect more, and they grew up in poverty wearing inadequate clothing and eating poor quality food and living in basic housing. I'm not just saying that Australian men of today are very much weaker, more emotional, etc than young Australian men from 1917 or 1939, the UK, the USA, and most western countries have seen the same changes. I am nowhere near to the men that both of my grandads were, they were born in the 1920's and survived the Second World War, but they were harder and tougher and stoical than I was at 18-24 when they were at war. So I'm not trying to insult or denigrate younger Australian men, because the same change has effected me and the majority of people who I know.

Be a lot faster rate of fire if the gun automatically ejects spent cartridge case and safer because the the guys could complete their mission and get out of there sooner.

With D Battery, 509th airborne BCT the worry was always counter battery fire. The M102A1 was too slow to March order . This weapon would have solved that problem. With the same or better effect on target. I don't understand why the army is not using it.

I remember a CAPEX demo at Ft. Bragg around 1985 where they brought in an M102 with a Blackhawk, the crew repelled in, They set up and fired 5 rounds, The Blackhawks returned and they slung the gun away while the crew STABO'd out. They were all gone before the first round hit.

My battery tested it about 4 years ago. It was cool but there were a lot of issues with the Humvee itself. After 3 weeks in the field all 6 went down, a few of them completely deadlined. Also almost unusable degraded, 1 turn of the hand wheel is 1 mil traversing or elevating. Glad it wasn't purchased but self propelled pieces (and imo ones that include auto loaders) are the future of artillery. More and more towed pieces are becoming FOB guns, near peer counterfire is a serious threat. That's why you see Ukrainians either firing while still hooked up to the vehicle or completely abandoning the gun after shooting a fire mission to go find cover in the nearest woodline

Interesting solution, a bit desperate but interesting. I see one problem, the time to fold and unfold can make it an easy target for an anti-altyrian attack. Good idea, but only against a much weaker opponent (which will save heavier resources). So yes, good and makes sense

Exactly, this is maneuverable, fast artillery, it is very much needed in Ukraine. He fired back and quickly left. Such equipment will save many lives, soldiers. Representatives of more than 50 democratic countries of the world are fighting on the side of Ukraine. Americans, British, Poles, Lithuanians, French, South Korea, Japan, Finland. Not that it has never united countries like this before.

The US army has to develop a version of the French Cesar, a moving artillery in minutes, it is stuck on permanent artillery. Cesar could move faster in a battlefield. The CT Hawkeye is too slow.

Dear God, Please allow Ukraine to get some of these systems to help level the playing field. Ukraine is a small peace loving nation attacked by the largest nation on earth. Not a fair fight but then neither was David and Goliath, but look at who won? Let the US supply Ukraine with the weapons (stones) needed to drop this Goliath. Amen...........

Never would have had this war if Ukraine accepted and implement the Minsk Accord. They wanted for instance the acceptance of their Russian language. In Californian when I lived there you didn't have to learn English. Now all government agencies hire or require fluency in a second foreign language. After Vietnam ended there many Vietnamese in the Ft Hood area. They were the best workers at our Mobil Chemical Plastics plants. They got trained by a bilingual worker and spoke their native language amongst themselves and we didn't care or discriminate against them. So why couldn't Ukraine tolerate this.
