India is still receiving financial aid from Germany as development aid. In that case it is a legitimate discussion on a german public broadcaster regarding where the aid is going. After all the aid is generated from the taxes paid by tax payers in Germany. Income distribution in India is still massive catastrophy. Therefore a discussion on poverty in the country vs >300 Mil. USD wedding is a normal one. Such discussions should also be normal within any group of patriotic Indians.

The British took all the Wealth from India and left India in Poverty. Things are improving. Indian economy is growing fast at almost 8 percent. I can understand your reasoning : if some of the 320 million dollars spent on this wedding were used to pay the wages of thousands of workers and flowed into local industries, then it is money well spent. But this is true only if all the workers were paid decently. If they were exploited so that their employers could earn thousands of dollars I cannot be happy.

@@dominicj7977No you are wrong. “GIFTS received during marriage is exempt” not the entire cost of wedding used to pay for others services. 😂 the money spent it goes to all the people described above. And they will pay income tax , sales taxes on stuff they bought for their services etc and so forth. It’s a chain event 😂 that’s how economic growth works when money rotates. Thats generally why higher income countries have higher GDP because more disposable income rotates in the market.

The money is not buried in the ground or in bundle of cash in lockers like you imagine. Loans are given to poorest to richest using this money contributing to development of nation. Even big infrastructure project , education loans , house , cars , electronics get loaned from this very money. Too bad gov keep writing off loans of richest in billions of dollar while bullying poors few hundred dollar loans. What a Tragedy!

Millions of dollars are being spent lavishly on weddings, but none of the invited guests will remember much, although they might gossip about it. If this money were spent on helping the poor instead, it would be remembered and appreciated. India is a land of extremes. Their poor and rich are both fascinated!!
