Great older kettle! I'd use a wire brush to get most of the big stuff off, then toss in some charcoal and let it burn around 350 or so to burn away bad stuff. :)

So that’s where I left my M code kettle! I’ll swing by to pick it back up. 😂 Very cool find. I love restoring so I would try and get that thing looking new again to last another 30 years

Great to see you! We previously watched your kettle grill restoration video and we'll be using that as a guide when we go to clean this grill up. We hope all is well with you and your family and that you are loving your new house!
Got to love a Weber Kettle. The older ones are better. Good info. I wish I kept my old Kettle Grills. Never knew this. I do know they turned the handle!

Great to see you Papa Texas! Thank you so much for checking out our video!
Well not only did I learn that it's called a lid damper, but I also learned my grill's from 2018! Which sounds pretty right... that's just around when we got it, hahah. Still, this was great to know! It's amazing how solid they are in construction and design... if you're allowed to use it where you're moving to, I'd totally give it a clean and bring it back to life! I haven't seen folks do more internally than give them a bit of a scraping to take off the built-up grease- which you're really supposed to do anyway. But I'm no expert on that... Joe from Killer Miller Cue had a whole video on it, and it looked pretty straightforward. It's one of our favorite ways to cook, especially for smoking... we're doing up some ribs on our kettle right this moment! Thanks for this Mitch!

Hi Susan! Thank you so much for checking out our first video with a grill as the topic. We're hoping to be able to go back to making cooking videos full time once we move. We also expect to be setting up an outdoor kitchen including this kettle grill and hopefully other cookers as well. I see so many sparkling and perfect looking kettle grills in KZread videos; I'm going to see if I can get this 32 year old unit back to clean and shiny condition. --Mitch
Maybe someone brought it over for a party, and forgot it? Clean it, and use it. That kettle deserves some love 💞👍

Hi Bobbi! Great to see you. 1990 was the year Philip bought this building, so it may have been a housewarming gift. It's not legal to have open flame cooking outdoors where we live right now; so that may be why the grill was hidden away for so long. We're going to clean it and take it to our new house.
You're such a great coherent narrator. A pleasure to watch. 👍

That is too cool! Love a good garage find. I would hit it with some degreaser and clean up real good, then fire it up with some charcoal. Can't wait to see you grilling on it when you get to the new house!

Awesome find Mitch! Thank you so much for putting my link in the description. 🍻 I’m kind of crazy, but I would clean up the outside real nice. Then I would knock off the big chunks (so it doesn’t fall on the food) Then I would burn a hot fire in it for about an hour and get cooking.

Hello Mitch!!! 😁 Wow, I would never know this grill was 32 years old. It is great that the exact same design has stood the test of time! They still use the same design today. 😁 Replacement grates are still sold for them, in case you need to get a new one. 😁👏👏 I believe I would clean it before using it. Great video! I loved the code you shared! Super cool! 😁👏👏

Hi Mitch! I’m loving this story of the mysterious kettle grill! Sounds like a great scooby doo mystery! This is great information. I never would have guessed the stamping would give off the makes year. Thanks for sharing! I say a deep thorough clean would be best it’s just me but not knowing what was cooked in it before has my germaphobe side ringing sirens lol!

The best cooker of all time. Scrape it out some and knock all that dust off! Do a hot burn off with a pile of coals and nothing else in the kettle, just bake it out to clean it. Then shes ready for smokin' and grillin'!

A 2” wide plastic putty knife is great to use on a kettle so the enamel won’t chip. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

I would clean any grill with an unknown history. You never know what they burned in it. After a burn in and a couple cooks, it'll be seasoned enough!

I would clean it and re-season it Mitch, if this has been sitting without use for 20+ years I would start over seasoning it. Just my opinion.

Isn't it illegal to grill, bbq outside in CA?
@MitchAndPhilip
Жыл бұрын
In many places there are serious restrictions. Here in SF, you cannot have any open flame within 10 feet of a wooden structure. That may be why this grill was hidden in the garage for years because the only flat outdoor space here is a wood deck.
