Joel is one of my celeb crushes ever since he was so good in The Killing (plot issues but great performances, eh?) One of my fav anecdotes from my sad, not-famous life is the time I tried to chat up my seatmate on a flight to sweden. The guy literally acted as if I had not spoken. Ran into him at a bar a wk later, where he apologized, explained that for swedes, chatting up a stranger is crazy person stuff, and then proceeded to hit on me aggressively the rest of the evening. Alas we could not go home together since we were both staying with friends who wouldn't allow it. Sad!

@rymdalkis
5 жыл бұрын
Smelting is an english word, but it means something different from melting. Smelting is heating up an object above its melting point in order to liquify it (like you're smelting iron in a furnace), whereas melting means the process during which an object turns from solid to liquid due to reaching its melting point (like snow melting in the sun). It's easy to mix up since Swedish uses the same word for both things

as a fellow nordic person there a couble of tiny issues, biggest one is the puplic transport thing, in denmark or most of the north it is expected that when you are above the teenage age you stop talking loud, you kinda lets everyone have their private space, and then if a convo do start its mostly about smalltalk and not an actual talk (more about passing silent time than about talking at this point) we have alot of this in the nordic country. beside that when it comes to the looking in the eye's of the ones you talk to is consideret a sign of respect and understanding and a commen frase in denmark is look me in the eye's when iam talking to you (a parent telling a kid to behave)

Kristofer Hivju! (Tormund from Game of thrones) Edit: I forgot that GoT is on HBO...
I am an American living in Sweden and as soon as he said he would talk to people at the bus stop, my immediate thought was how unswedish of him! The last person that talked to me at the bus stop, I screamed because it was so unexpected :). But I agree with him, socialize more!
Sad!
Altered Carbon was so damn good, and visually delicious. I want more.

But if you don't speak swedish without accent you woun't freak them out as much because they are used to other cultures. If a swedish person gets close and starts talking and staring at someone they don't know then it freaks people put.

Bruh thats cap. Talking to strangers is more of a Swedish thing than a American thing. Plus Joel is barely even American
smelting😂😂😂 that some swinglish. I am Swedish. Smälta in Swedish means to melt😊. Swedes in the countryside talk to each other a lot more than in the cities
@rymdalkis

He's so right. Talk to each other.
Aww man... I so agree with you Joel about talking to other people and vise versa. All of my life I've been keeping things inside, not sociable what so ever. About 4 years ago, started giving it my all to start up conversations with strangers and OH MY.... Does that ever freak people out! Sadly, from my experiences only about 1 out of 100 or so people will smile and or converse with me. By the way, I looove your acting! You did a wonderful job in Altered Carbon. You look so different from in The Killing that I had to go search to see if it was really you lol. Hope to see a lot more of you in the near futur! Take care.
his voice ughhh 😍
I love this man.
He is so adorable !
I adore sitting next to people on the bus or train when there is plenty of room. I can feel the discomfort and it makes me happy.
I love his personality so much 😊
I respect him more for all the non-nordic things he does, such as staring and talking to strangers. My kind of stranger to chat with or a friend to get to know!
My god I love this guy!
Joel will forever be my no.1 celeb crush

I’m watching The Killing right now. I love watching you in that show.
fair percentage, he is half American so it levels out.
I love how his American qualities do the most damage to his Nordic score 🙃
as a fellow nordic person there a couble of tiny issues, biggest one is the puplic transport thing, in denmark or most of the north it is expected that when you are above the teenage age you stop talking loud, you kinda lets everyone have their private space, and then if a convo do start its mostly about smalltalk and not an actual talk (more about passing silent time than about talking at this point) we have alot of this in the nordic country. beside that when it comes to the looking in the eye's of the ones you talk to is consideret a sign of respect and understanding and a commen frase in denmark is look me in the eye's when iam talking to you (a parent telling a kid to behave)
This man is fricken beautiful.
This actor as cool as hell,
He was really great in The Killing.
I moved to Finland this year. At first I found it pretty weird that people would prefer to stand than sit next to someone in trains and buses but now i think it's just a Nordic thing haha
Like his voice.
Love him!!!
The empty seat part got me.. When I first arrived Germany, I realized people wouldn't seat beside me, rather they would find an empty seat.. I initially thought it was racism because in Nigeria, ideally one finds the spot he or she likes and sits there. And that spot could be beside a stranger..
ah yes, smelting. Klassik swinglish

I didn't know Joel Kinnaman was born in Sweden. The first time I saw him was in The Killing, where he speaks with AAVE. I thought it was pretty convincing.
Yeah! Senapssill aka sinaappisilli is the BEST!
I used to try to chat with people at the bus stop in Norway, why not? If they were uncomfortable, that was their signal to loosen up.
Oh he is so damn beautiful
Scandinavian languages sound like someone rewinding an audio recording.
Swedes are rather friendly and chatty! In fairness though, when I meet any here (Ireland) they’re usually full of beer and not being chatty isn’t really an option! 😄
To answer the question "who does that"... me, I do that.
This dude is super nordic

Altered Carbon died without him. Bring him back and the series!!!!!
That is completely awesome Difficulty talking with people sometimes so I’m surprise that you’re able to do it
Please come back to Altered Carbon, you were awesome in that.
I see what they mean about not talking to strangers in the north, but I also find that a lot of people start small talking to strangers
midsummer in sweden is usually the event that starts people drinking. either by collecting spirits from their parents or by smuggled (europe) spirits or moonshine. it's about gettting pissed.
