Now granted the old ones did have a leak in them so that is a good reason why it increased fuel mileage. Old battery cables can cause a starter to drag like that also
You should get a gear reduction type starter. I use those type on my 2 F250's and my F550. They will spin over in the cold temperatures.

Maybe get a Mean Green gear reduction starter. Spins fast and engine starts quickly.

If you can get one go with a powermaster high torque starter. Last i saw they’re about $210. They’re practically indestructible starter. I installed my high output alternator from them yesterday, far more power on tap if needed. I’d recommend them for any diesel. I just washed mine today too, she’s gleaming in the sun.

@@powerstrokecentral O’ Reilly’s sells powermaster products so that’d be your best bet. Everyone i know that has diesels runs those starters and alternators.

@@powerstrokecentral, 1 year warranty but the average lifespan of one of their high torque starters is 15-18 years. They beef up all the internals way better than OEM.

try the 6.7 starter swap. just swap the nose cone to your old one

In my opinion I think oreilly have better diesel parts me personally I own a 7.3
My 7.3L runs like ass and I get 17 mpg pretty much guaranteed.
