how much youtube paid me as a small channel (while balancing a full-time job)

How much money can you earn on KZread as a small creator just starting out? Here's a full-year of income while going from 5k to 39k subs. This is a good benchmark if you're lazy and inconsistent (AKA working a separate full-time gig) like I was. :)

    I suspect it has something to do with the bot issues/illegitimate views that were happening last year. Possibly YT assuming that some views aren’t real and over correcting? Not sure but it’s definitely a mystery. 😅

    You're doing great! My watch hours is usually 10k to 15k hours per month with 5k subs. But you're making more than I am probably great RPM. Have you figured out what makes YT seem to go from $5 RPM to $15RPM and up and down all year? Keep going -- you're living the dream! Can't wait to see you reach 50K subs and then 100K

    You know, I’ve been watching a lot of these videos lately. BUT, I haven’t managed to watch the other ones all the way through. And I know why I am able to sit through yours. Firstly, the background music and your voice is such a chill vibe. You are not performing. When everyone else does. I need to learn how to not perform (at least not too much) when the camera is on. Super well done on your successes! This is so inspirational!

    This is awesome, thanks for sharing (I love how genuine you are in these videos 👌) and great to see you doing so well! (found you via your end of 9-5 video) Do you have any thoughts on niche vs variety? Since you likely have several audiences - those that find you for your Notion videos, and those that stick around for your vlog/personality and want to see everything you do. Asking since I have a lot of creative interests, animation, 3d, photography, cinematography + thoughts on productivity/procrastination, the general creative journey of highs/lows, freelancing in those areas etc. Obviously niches do well being so focused (at the risk of being too boring for the creator). But a variety channel of what I like might be too much of an inconsistent mash up to attract subscribers🤔

  • @WesleyAnna

    @WesleyAnna

    It really depends on your goals. 1.) short term gain = niche down 2.) long term investment = go wide 3.) hobby = anything you want If you want to include different topics you can, just make sure to show your personality and perspective more so that there’s a common thread. :)

    Hey wesley, I was wondering if you could make a video telling how do you make a video Like for me , i want to make light videos but based on research , now the part where i stuck is the scripting part Because word by word scripting doesn't allow you to feel natural while on camera (as the content is more close to my own observation) I just wanna know what's your way of making the videos in that context? If you don't get the question you can ask me in the reply.

  • @xoxoakouto

    @xoxoakouto

    hello! I know you didnt ask me but the way I do it is make bullet points of what you're gonna talk about then rehearse the talking points (with context) in your mind over and over again. Once you get ready to film it will feel more naturla because you've been rehearsing it.

  • @Napoleanmishra

    @@xoxoakouto ahh .. you mean making a script script about the video Not word by word but instead by the topic on which i want to discuss and key highlighhts and then resherse it until it looks natural. Got it. Thanks.

    I know the first ( two years ) are the hardest but the third year is better. And it depends on your content . For example : I know a person who started in 2020 , the content is about family , cooking , vacations, and Shopping Hauls. The first year the person didn't do well , it was the Second year , did awesome, so from 2021 - present time, 1.8 Million Subs 200K views Bring in $50,000 per month. That's more than the average worker , who goes to work 8 hours x 5 days. *this story 100% true*

    Why dont you double down on notion content? Clearly, that's what your audience mainly knows you for, and your data shows that. I guess you do vlogs just for fun when the data is telling you to ditch the vlogs and go all in notion. Those topics are super different and confuses your audience. FYI. Companies tend to invest more on ads during the 4th quarter for Christmas season so it's quite natural for creators to get more during the 4th quarter versus 3rd quarter.

  • @WesleyAnna

    This is a valid question, and one that I’ve thought about a lot. Ultimately, a lot of creators regret niching down too aggressively. Unless it’s a topic you can see yourself talking about for decades (which, even if I could, I don’t think it’s wise to base my career off of the longevity of a startup). I could probably make a quick buck off of just doing Notion, sure. But that’s shortsighted. My goal is to build a sustainable career. And only chasing whatever makes the most money in the moment doesn’t always suit that (hence why I also don’t take sponsorships from companies I don’t believe in). Also, the more you associate your content with a topic and less of yourself, the easier it is to be replaced my others (or increasingly likely, AI). I’m still figuring out the best path for me, but that’s okay. I’m willing to take it slow because I’m here for the long haul. 😌

  • @BorderlessCommerce

    @BorderlessCommerce

    @@WesleyAnna When you say a sustainable career, do you mean on KZread or just on your own terms outside the typical 9-to-5? If it's KZread, if it weren't for that notion video, you wouldn't be where you are today as well for that notion course you made, which I am assuming you created due to the traction you were getting on KZread, which isnt a quick buck because I know making a course worthwhile takes time and energy. You aren't confined by your niche either, you can always pivot. (As I have) Just saying career long KZreadrs usually stick to a niche in some sort for predictable revenue streams and don't necessarily say yes to every sponsor not inline with your brand. Cause you have enough data in your analytics to see what kind of content resonates with the audience. But if you can't speak about that topic for a long long time, I can see how that can lead to burn out as well. I've never had a viral video, but I try to at least get feedback through from the data to pivot when needed. For example, my first niche was a dead one especially during covid in China, so I did a pivot.
