Patrick Dovigi's story is mind blowing. He started by following garbage trucks around the streets of Toronto to figure out their routes. Then he hired a helicopter to fly over the garbage yards to calculate how many trucks were on the road versus in the repair shop. He did the math and concluded he could make the whole operation more efficient. So he bid on a small-ish contract in one neighbourhood. He under bid with the confidence that he had found efficiencies others hadn't. Then, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, contract by contract he took over vast areas of the city and a decade or two later.....mega yacht. Rags to riches.

Whatever people say about super yachts in general ... this is A BEAUTY!! It's just crazy how much space there is to relax and hang around, about 50 times what is in our beautiful back garden. What do you do with all that space? Unreal, but very prrrrrty! Thanks for sharing and for being careful on not showing anyone.

A bit of trivia. There was a man on the US east coast that had a very successful garbage collection business. So successful that he bought a 52 foot sailboat that he named "Trashman". In September of 1982 he hired a crew of 5 to sail the boat down to Florida. The boat was caught in a severe storm and went down. The 5 crew got into a liferaft but eventually only two survived. One of the survivors, Deborah Scaling Kiley, wrote a book about her ordeal "Albatross: The True Story of a Woman's Survival at Sea (1994)". Its a good read, especially for sailors.🙂

So the LeMay Car Museum and the LeMay Collection at Marymount evolved out of Harold LeMay’s garbage collection business. A large part of his collection, which was 3000 + cars at one point, was obtained by his garbage truck drivers spotting cars while out driving their routes through the roads and alleys. They’d spot something and pass the word on to Harold. Harold would go take a look, and if he liked what he saw, he’d just start offering dollars and more dollars. It’s rumored that Harold would offer bonuses if a driver spotted something Harold really wanted.

Those of us in Toronto are indeed familiar with GFL, They have now branched out into highway construction and other infrastructure too. His competitors are dumfounded on how he could have parlayed a municipal waste collection contract into the rapid growth he has achieved. It's a public company and you can look at the financial statements. Neither earnings nor stock price appreciation look that great. Like I said, a headscratcher.

FYI: the ad was quite jarring. OTOH, M/Y Ahpo/Lady Georgia looks very sleek with beautiful, relaxing amenities. It seems like quite the M/Y. I would have liked to hear more about it. Is it really fast according to its appearance, does it have any special features? And could those explain why it sold so quickly, or it just sleek looking and the seller was lucky? Usually, you comment on your personal impressions of a M/Y, yet this one did not seem to rise to that level of commentary. Personally, I found many “little” details and aesthetics of the boat surprisingly attractive like the sleek bow, the helicopter deck, the dk. blue (?) racing stripe theme. Not my taste, but the interior seemed very inviting and well done. All seem very tastefully done. Congratulations on the sponsorship. Perhaps a more seamless segue for sponsorship segments would befit your excellent channel if possible. TY for sharing your travels, insights, commentaries, and expertise. All fascinating and enjoyable.

Always enjoy your drone footage. Think I’d have picked Pelorus over Ahpo, despite the age difference. Have you seen the news about the Titanic submersible? Hope it is located soon.

Having been in real estate, the percentage is the same 6%, 3% for the sale, 3% for the listing agent. On more expensive deals like this one, as you stated, a deal can sometimes be made as to the actual commissions paid. I had to give up a percent on one deal to get it through escrow, but that's part of the job. Better to make some money than not! 😁 Gorgeous yacht! 👍😎✌🗽

Nice comm for agents in the US. In Sydney, Australia it's usually 2.2% (10% GST is included), however most sales over $1mil are negotiated down to 1.5% and sometimes less. In the vast majority of cases the listing agent is the selling agent. If the purchaser uses a buyers agent then the buyer pays the agent directly, but buyers agents represent a tiny proportion of total sales.

@@calumshaw I was never in that league of selling multi million dollar properties, I did have one listing, a $1,000,000 land deal, but never sold it. With homes costing so much now, there are deals to be made, and I think the average on a multi million dollar property is 4%-5% which is still a lot!

Close inspection will indicate that those birds(Pigeons???) in the background were worried about their nest, which is that wreck of "straw" and sticks and such right in the area they were standing.

Curious on advantages/disadvantages of storing the toys near the bow instead of stern.

The bow is generally not used much, it's where the anchor kits are etc, so better to keep the toys at the bow and free up valuable space at the stern for sitting, dining, sunbathing, a pool etc. Plus if your stern to berthing you can't get the toys out compared to the bow. Just my guess

If I had enough coin for one I’d be flying my family out to the boat all the time.

The pidgins were looking for a suitable target to do their business and flew away when you didn’t present one.
