How Much Power Can We Get From a 2023 YZ125? | Stock vs Tuned Shootout!

Спорт

We are on a mission to build the world's best 125cc Dirt Bike. In this episode we compare a standard 2023 YZ125 - both on the dyno and on the MX track - against a YZ 125 with a stage one tune (that means bolt on goodies!). How much faster can we go on the Yamaha? Let's find out!
Make sure you subscribe to see the next episode where the bike gets the full works treatment. We upload epic motocross videos every week, so come and join our two stroke family! :-)
A big thanks goes to our awesome channel sponsors who help us to create these videos for you guys to watch and enjoy every week :-) So if you can, please support the brands that support us!

Great video Max, the bikes ran really well and a big improvement on the tuned bike, Roland's going to be a busy boy, will be interesting to find out how expensive it is to build a championship winning bike. Nice work again Max great content.

i make 42hp on mine. Wiseco piston , clutch and basket , GYTR pressure plate. Apex head ( mx dome ) , JD Jetting pilot/needle kit ( 72 pilot/190main ), VP T2 fuel (0.5-1.0 oz motul oil added per gallon to bring it down to a 35 - 32:1 ratio for more oiling effect ) , Bill's MX pipe , PC TI silencer . i also changed sprockets rom the oem 13/49t , to 14/48t . i can get it up to 83MPH . about a 10% increase everywhere, and LOTS of overrev where its still making power well over 14K RPM happily .

I love Apex. I haven't been for years but its a real power track. I remember my mate racing a CR500 back in the 90's and around there the big bikes were completely dominant. The 500's, big Huskys and so on. Its a great track if you want fun and a workout.

I would love to have a Stic Super X carb by Stic Super Torque, to fuel that bike. My 23 yz125x has a Super X as I wasn't happy with my dialed in keihin. The gains from off idle to over rev as well as significantly widening the power curve were very impressive. With the X carb at only 1/4 throttle, it will pull just as strong as the factory keihin did at full throttle. After experiencing the impressive gains from the X carb on its own, I got the power bug. I installed a TSP cylinder head, TSP ignition module and a pro circuit pipe and silencer. The gains from these other bolt on mods individually were not as impressive, as the Super X on its own and the other bolt ons only added on to the impressive gains from the X carb. I currently have the X high power tune installed which uses a 80 pilot and a 200 main. Riders who I offered a test ride to think its a 150, its so smooth and strong and lugs very well in technical single track and actually has some bottom end torque. It will scream and pull forever on a mx track. It's so versatile. I would fit a Super X carb before a cylinder head, cdi, pipe change or big bore kit.

Same same for my stock 200SX +Super X. At the track a buddy saw me mixing it up with faster riders on big 4t's. He asked what got into me. LOL I run the slowest turn G2 throttle cam, otherwise it's mayhem a tick above idle. I talked to a CR125 rider that removed the PWK STIC block, as it was too potent for his liking. Too bad he didn't know how to get his own setting.

  • @siraff4461

You can guess how much faster its going to be. Imagine riding a 2hp, weightless bike (so 2hp against rider weight) for the amount of time the throttle is wide open and however far that would take you is going to be roughly the difference in distance. Then see how long it takes for the stock bike to cover that distance at its average speed around a lap and you can see the time difference. I based it on a 90kg rider in (in gear) and got roughly 3.1s as the possible difference. Considering there will be some time lost to extra wheelspin and the track got worse it wasn't all that far off. Of course its much more fun and much more accurate to get somone on it and see what really happens.

Not a lot you can do. It's a small engine with low torque that needs high revs to make power. You just can't change the physics. You can get a big bore kit. Get a pipe that's designed to help the powerband come on a bit sooner at the expense of some mid to top pull. Make sure your jetting is just right. You could bump up the compression a bit. You could go overboard and reject the carb for methanol and do all of the above things. In general a 125 is going to be pretty gutless unless you wring out those RPMs.

Here's your real list of mods, Pro Circuit pipe and silencer, throw HGS in the trash, next Smartcarb sc2 10 percent power gain straight outta the box, no jets vent tubes, zero guessing, next Ceramic Hybrid crank bearing from CBR bearings in the states, another 5 percent power gain for $130 a set, do it first tear down, next WPC friction reduction on all regular bearing and all metal to metal surfaces, another easy 10+plus percentage gain, and then VHM head and finally a Mitch Payton ported cylinder, yes he actually does it himself yet, if you ask for him personally, and VP race gas and maxima 927 at 40:1 to 50:1 depending on how much you wanna refresh the internals. Less oil more power and the WPC cuts down on friction big time, watch their videos, every F1 team does friction reduction... Any questions? And its Z not zed...

Higher oil ratio provides more cooling at the expense of money. It does not increase horsepower what so ever. It can prevent overheating which can sap horsepower, but oil in itself cannot produce horsepower.
