What it cost you personally is what you are happy with. Ofcourse you can downsize your rent and live just as well and cut back on other expenses if you needed to. But as of now you are comfortable and happy. For me 2k is more than enough. I have seen others live on far less and live better than most in the west. Each to there own. Great video!

$600 a month ($20 a day) for food seems a little excessive in Thailand. Eating out for almost all my meals in the Asok/Thonglor/Ekkamai areas cost me about $350 for the month (gotta love that food court at Terminal 21). You're spot on with the rest of your budget. Thailand is not "dirt cheap" but it is really inexpensive relative to U.S./UK/Canadian prices. You really do get more bang for the buck in Thailand, especially with condo rentals (most of which come with gyms and other amenities).

I cap my spending at $3k CAD ($2.2k USD or 80k THB). I would be spending $4k CAD or about $3k USD if I was not watching my budget. $1k CAD for housing, $1k CAD for needs (food, gym, visa, transportation, health stuff), $1k CAD for fun (entertainment, shopping) is how I roughly split my budget.

I am surprised at your food ( for a single man) and gym budget, seems there is a lot room to economize there. I am also curious about your omission of the cost of companionship (not bar girls) or being in a relationship, certainly that has to be figured in, no?

I do 75k a month average over the year with a good quality of life while staying in a rented 3 bedroom house with a girlfriend, animals and a car payment. Could get this to 60k easily or 40k if paid off both house/car. Average an additional 15k a month over 5 years if you want the 5 year privilege visa. I live slightly out of a tourist town and rent prices are CHEAP. Girlfriend increases cost but also lowers it at the same time since she can shop local markets. It’s like a free pass into the local price system without needing to speak Thai or learn Thai culture. But imagine buying a condo then being able to live on 50k or 1.4K usd a month with a decent lifestyle. You just can’t get that in the USA even if you round up to 20k a year. 500k usd invested at 5% with 50-100k down on a condo and you’re set. (Extra 6k a year if you aren’t retirement age and don’t want to deal with an education visa) This also assumes you have incredible self control and discipline 😂 Also, don’t forget good insurance AND to go to your nearby hospital to register a hospital card before an emergency pops up. Every minute counts and if you’re registered and have insurance, you’re admitted quicker. If they don’t know if you have money/insurance, you’ll just sit there dying.
