Lucas Bradley I once told my friends about credits... one of them asked me where you go to get them... I said, "You ride roller coasters." He said, "No, where do you go to GET them?" So then I had to explain to him that it isn't a piece of paper or anything, which took about 15 minutes because he kept asking me the same thing over and over again.

Well it's even worse here over seas. In my country there aren't translations for "Flat rides", "dark rides" and so on so therefore the GP over here calls every single amusement ride a Roller coaster. Even dark rides.

Intamin is the only one who really uses the term, so what classifies as a mega coaster varies. Intamin calls its hyper coasters megas too.

Intamin version of B&M’s hyper coaster is mega coaster. B&M considers coasters of hyper style, like Hollywood Dream and Ride, to still be hyper coasters even though they aren’t over 200 feet tall.

08:06 we would love a giga! Closest we have are a short intamin accelerator that it only about 15 seconds long, and a monorail (Big One at Blackpool)!

Yeah intamin is the only one that uses the term mega but coasters like EGF and Goliath are included in the list of megas and aren't over 200ft. It's weird though how some manufactures use certain terms while other don't look no further than what B&M actually consider Fury 325 (they call it a hyper). Taylor Red Fire meets the basic requirements for a giga as its a complete circuit with a height in between 300 and 399 ft. I said technically as people tend to not classify coasters that are either launched or inverting in coaster types like hyper or giga. I was more or less being my typically smart-ass self just because why not.

The giga part I was just being a smart-ass about, but the mega one was actually used incorrectly. The only accurate source of ride classifications imo is going to an actually manufacturer's site. www.intaminworldwide.com/project/bizarro/ So I was wrong intamin considers coasters between around 148 ft to about 295 ft to be megas but close enough.

Coaster Studios The "No inversions, no launch" policy has typically only applied to hypercoasters, so I think Red Force counts as an official giga. Even Wikipedia lists it!

The term giga comes from Intamin, since they were the first to built Millennium Force at Cedar Point. It is used to set a new height barrier. The only requirement is that the track makes a full circuit. Strata was the next barrier to be crossed with Top Thrill Dragster, which has a hydraulic launch system. The requirement is that the train has to reach the height, not just the track as is the case with Superman: Escape from Krypton. Intamin will break the 500ft barrier as well, don't know what term they will think of this time.

Coaster enthousiasts in the US are able to this because the largest coasters are in North America. They have many giga's and hypers while in Europe we've only got 3 hypers. So I guess they mean the height on an out&back coaster with camelbacks, while we just look at the actual height. For instance non of the hypers or gigas have inversions in North America. In China 1 of them does and in Europe as well.

i wish england DID have a gig coaster but thorpe parkccouldnt as the airport and alton towers couldnt even get hyper as the height restrictions so the onoy one i could ever see it coming to is blackpool pleasure beach but i doubt that as they already have a hyper and getting a multi launch next year
