I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the detailed information you give. As for doTERRA business - I was one of the original people to sign up with Young Living. It's the same kind of MLM deal and I can tell you from my personal experience and from those who signed up with me and meetings that I went to - we were spending tons of money buying the product, but not MAKING any $$. So, I definitely wouldn't think it's a good idea. However, for those of us who have worked 30+ years and are looking to retire on money we've saved, homesteading (at almost any age) seems like a great alternative to our conventional thinking about where and how to live. We ALL need to be more self sufficient and mindful of what we are contributing to and taking away from the planet. Homesteading, converting sheds into homes, raising our own chickens and vegetables is a wonderful way to live! I wish there was an affordable community offering space for those of us who are aging to benefit from homesteading. Unfortunately, there are several 'retirement' type communities of this nature, but they are only for the very rich. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos!

Thank you sooooooo much Elizabeth!! I am very sorry that you didn’t have the best experience with YL. It’s certainly different on Kelly and I’s team. We help A LOT of people feel better health wise and then we help a smaller group of people do the same thing and create an income. But correct, building a business isn’t for everybody. THANK YOU THANK YOU for watching and for commenting!!!!! It truly means the world to us!!!!

Subscribing too. I'm wanting to swap a double carport out with a stick built carport that I can hopefully tie into all our existing utility lines. My daughter and her 2 young children moved back home when her husband decided being married wasn't for him when their kids were 3 and 7mo, so it's been an adjustment for my remaining fam. Wife, 3 kids that still live in my house. She wants to go to college, so we're trying to help her get her own space for her family... But not make it wasted rent on crappy living place. My wife came up with the idea and it's brilliant. Did I mention when they eventually move out I will inherit the "shop"? Fully furnished man cave with enough room and comfort for all my goodies! YES! But the A # 1 plan is taking care of my daughter and her boys, making sure they get a better opportunity than living hand to mouth chasing a dead beat! You definitely did alot of work on this video, and I'm going to investigate further, thank you for that. BTW, when I was in the ARMY back in the early 90s, I was stationed at Fort Hood army airfield. Lived in Killeen, and Harker Heights. I really enjoyed East Texas, great people.

..I have been "binge watching" you'alls video journey (from the beginning) for a bit now ...and this is my first comment on your channel. I would like to first off congratulate you and your family on ALL the progress on you'alls dream so far [btw continued best wishes going forward] second point as to me commenting is i HIGHLY admire how you'all are willing to share ALL you're mistakes...(do NOTS) AND your successes.... along with how you share your planning/budgeting process(along with sharable documents) to those who are doing what you'all are doing, dreaming about doing what you'all are doing or are just 'armchair' homesteaders that are past the point of doing it...but are still curious about how it could be done ☮️&❤️..and all the best karma sent your way

Pretty cool positive comment, not sure where you are from, but down here in middle Georgia USA, we just say Y'all! HAHA. Hope you have a blessed day, I'm getting kinda hooked on the vids as well, and it's refreshing to see a positive note of praise and encouragement. I'm sure he has to put up with alot of useless negativity, and"your doing it all wrong" stuff. Honestly, that type stuff I'm sure runs alot of people off from doing videos on KZread which is unfortunate. Looks like they have the skin tough enough to brave it tho. Y'all have a great day. So here it is 3 years later. Great info for people. Very informative now add probably 30% more for much of what you listed. Everything has gone up so much, especially wood. I would say for most people considering going this route better understand its a long process to do this a bit at a time. Most people don't have the kind of money to tackle this all at once.

Never forget to include a 25%-33% increase for FUBAR FACTOR. That's what we called the extra costs of having to redo a project because of our ignorance/learning curve. Better to have a larger septic system than smaller; with 4 kids you will need that. It also will allow you to add on later, like the guest house. You were wise NOT to drill a well if you have a municipal water system. It cost us 10K for our well and septic system 34.5 years ago and we only had to drill 360 feet to hit the Glen Rose Aquifer. Set up for our propane was half your cost, but propane was much cheaper then as well. I can't remember what the cost of the electric pole, meter and hook up our utilities cost from the co-op.

Not many people would share financial information. Kudos to you for sharing. It might help someone else who is dreaming of moving to the country. One point I wonder about, I'm a farmer so almost everything we do is deductable. How much of your expenses are deductable? It has occurred to me that the difference between farms and homesteads is that on a farm everything is deductable but since a homestead would be considered a hobby farm almost nothing is deductable.

I really appreciate the estimate of the conversion. I have been looking more and more into building a small home at some point for myself. The walkthrough video you had created of a finished version of a derksen shed house convention was almost exactly what I am looking for. I am just starting out and I can’t imagine paying hundreds of thousands of dollars on a home. Although, it would be great to own a somewhat large home, I don’t want to be still paying off a mortgage for 30+ years. P.s. What model did you purchase? I was looking on the derksen website but am very confused to which “cabin” it is.

I think i got a mental rough estimate on what i need. I was just wondering on how much building on the inside would cost. 😋 This is where im gonna be thrifty & creative. Thats the fun part to me. Trying to figure out what spaces i need & what all i can cram in there. Idc im broke. & Im still gonna find a way to make it look fabulous. But I havent got to the permit or buying land part yet 😭. Planning ahead is really where it’s at to make this work. Know exactly what you’re buying and where it will go. Don’t put this where it will be illegal. You’ll regret it. . Know what you need and cannot live without (electric, plumbing, etc) before you buy. Interior fixtures , flooring, walls and ceilings are where you save $. . You can do this is you do it with patience and forethought.👍🏻

@@BetterTogetherLife I’d imagine you’re doing well considering the channel’s success. I like your channel and don’t intend to insinuate anything nefarious on your part. It boils down to the fact that recruiting is a big focus and a lot of revenue comes from that and that the products are overpriced regardless of their quality. If they weren’t overpriced they wouldn’t have to rely on recruiting your friends and family to sell them to you, essentially relying on the relationship the salesperson has with the customer. They’d just sell them in stores if the product was worth the price saving them whatever they pay salespersons.
