Hey y’all, it’s Mel with Fodie Hill Farms. Today we went to our local butcher and picked up a half of a hog for the freezer.  we don’t really like pork chops, but we love breakfast. So when our butcher called to ask us what meat we wanted, we told them we did not want any of the pork chops for them to turn it into ground pork and Smoke sausage.
My local grocery stores do not carry ground pork very often and when they do, it’s about seven dollars a pound. So having all the pork chops  turned into ground pork is a great money saver for me. 
If you decide to get a half of a cow or a half of a hog, it is a very big investment, but it saves you money in the long run. Always ask  for the specific cuts of meat that you enjoy cooking and eating. If it’s something you like you’ll be more inspired to get in the kitchen and cook it versus something you’ve never ate or don’t like to cook will just sit in your freezer. 
The first time that I ordered a cow and a hog, I was completely lost at how cuts of meat came from the butcher, so I decided to do these videos to help you get an idea of what to expect if you’re deciding to do this.
