Beautiful song, Jon. I love it. Congrats!
Really interesting and refreshingly honest. Thanks Jon.
One of your best videos yet. Straight to the point with facts and honesty.
I see it’s now at the 34 spot on beatport! Congrats!

Thanks, Jon. Great material! And congrats on your work!
I really appreciate how you exactly explained how it works and what the earnings depend on. I hate when other people just say “well it depends”

I really think dance music producers need to have a separate charts, coz it's pretty much Pop and rap in that list

hey! i just listened to your song. I really like it. i have a question. don't you think there must be something that is gonna make you stand out? like there is so many artists that are really good, but they dont make it so high. How does it work?
Also you have to factor the splits between the different writers involved with the song, some of the top 5 songs have at least 3 writers involved which all have their own percentages of splits.
@Jonsine
4 жыл бұрын
The writers are usually not getting a split of the master.
That under water song is gonna be great.
Under water klingt ja mal nice :) Hab deinen Kanal gerade erst entdeckt. Ich frage mich immer wieder, ob es mit reinen Instrumentals überhaupt möglich ist was zu reissen?
Hey Jon, I understand you released a sample for pack for "Secrets", but would you consider doing video of a break up of the song? The samples you used, how you programmed the drums, the synths you used etc...? This might give a great insight into your production process. Thanks, Vladimir.

Hi jon great video and also congratulations on your mile stone in your career. I was wondering if you have any insight on how a beat maker should go about making a contract with an artist for royalties and possibly up front money for the beat. I am an unknown producer and the artist I'm currently working with has a sony contract and wants a beat I made and im not sure how to go about it. He asked me to send him the song via email and I am unsure of sending without some kind of contract. Thanks in advance if you have time to read and help.
Nice video cool for the Info
Few artists make serious money from streaming, especially after all the splits. The only money in music these days is via performances. That is why you have musicians and performers still actively touring into their 70s. Most musicans/songwriters are "starving artists".
@Jonsine
4 жыл бұрын
yes 100% just compare what athletes make compared to musician with streaming. it's a very indirect business you make more money with the side stuff than with your main profession
@TonyThomas10000

@@Jonsine Yeah, but artists really need to be paid more. They used to make 10-15% of the retail price of a CD after packaging costs. Now, they have to get something like 200-300 plays on Spotify to get the same amount of $.

Do repeat plays by the same spotify account on one song generate the same amount of earnings with each play? or effect spotify charts? If that's the case I'll throw you on repeat all day and night until I see you on the global charts

Why you use more the studio B to produce than the studio A? Or at least is what I see on the videos.

It’s really hard to make a living writing dance music. Most people only write a few tracks and that’s it. You have to keep putting out several good tracks each year to make some kind of living. If you really want to earn more, you’ll need to write pop music.
Where musicians get their money?
Don't you feel it does not make sense beatport still charges premium prices for wav's and aiff's given that it is directed to dj's who dj professionally. In my opinion you buy the rights for the song, and the quality for that price should be as high as possible (and if people want do download a lower quality mp3 that's fine, but at least when you buy the rights for a song, you should get the wav file).
@Jonsine

Yes they are expensive and the quality isn’t the best but still the best option on the market

@@Jonsine Thanks Jon for the answer! In the late 90's, early 2000's this difference in price made sense due to bandwidth issues, but now it does not anymore... I am surprised there are not more complaints about this....
24 at PH charts congrat bro
Double take at 5:39 when talking about Spotify and ...middlemen...? "There's always a distributor, at least, and usually also a label.." I love the concept of a distributor sticking their face in the trough for Spotify...
Do you have to pay taxes on revenue generated from streams??
@Jonsine
4 жыл бұрын
Yes of course
not to be rude, but i've listened to "secrets", and the production is ok but nothing original really. its the voice melody, and lyrics that creates the main value of the track. Did you write it? and if not, what percent does the voice-melody writer get?
it is not 1/2 a cent per stream. $10000 euros divided by 3000000 streams = .003 cents per stream. Or, you are being paid 30% of each 1 cent
HOW MUCH CAN A HIT SONG MAKE? I think there are basically 2 main options of what a hit song can make: 1. The song can make people go dance - the other option. 2. He can make people go ... crazy
German Hip Hop is nice. There are 2 or 3 Musicians eho buy some Klicks but the rest is real
I don’t want to write a hit song. I want to write a mediocre song and get paid for it

Bro you should go to sleep
I don't wanna ruin your dreams but as you told secrets is your best track your ever made i can assure you it's not! It's like a copy/paste from times when Calvin harris came out and production quality, it's really poor, that's why people won't buy it only your youtube followers etc... I'm really not trying to crush your dreams or insult you. I'm also a producer but people who tell you that track is good well it's not, just trying to help you with your future releases with real feedback i also have producer like over 10 years and know ins and outs. So i checked out your beatport Top 10 and well, your track "All about" it probably your best creation out of 10 and you should keep that road with that kind of genre like Robin Schulz vibe. It's catchy, quality is good, it has mainstream sounds and audience. I'm not trying to piss anyone off but it's the truth, hope you was not offended. All the best, THE PRODUCER :)
@josefb7449

Keijo Henno This negativity doesn't help anyone. Such a useless comment. This is not proper feedback, it's nothing but pure negativity. Why even waste your time on commenting like this? No one's gaining anything out of it. As a producer, you should know the struggle and self doubt is already big as it is. Support your fellow producers instead of being just another stream of negativity that puts everyone down. Just stop.

@@Jonsine Actually I'm listening to every genre and pop/mainstream is my least favorite. :D Ofc it's not possible that one track fits for all. I was just helping you out a bit. I also had to take the same road as people told me that this is shhh and so on. Back then I was also mad that they criticize me, but now looking back, I can understand them, they were right. Also one of my producer student's like 4 years ago got mad that I told him the hard cold truth how things work, but then a few months after he also told me that you were right and followed the right ways do to stuff. About 3 years ago he got signed to Armada Music.
