How Mikrotik Can Transform Your Network Engineering Skills

This video will be going over why I believe MikroTik is the best way to get into Network Engineering, we'll be talking about how Cost-Effective MikroTik is vs some of its competitors. How Feature-Rich MikroTik devices are, and just how different MikroTik does things compared to the rest of the networking vendors. Hope you enjoy!

    The community has improved a lot in recent years. When I started over a decade ago it was kind of eliteist with hostility towards anyone asking questions. But that has definitely improved... and you yourself I feel have done a lot to make it more accessible, I myself have found your tutorials (particularly your Wiregaurd videos) to be extremely helpful.

    I started my networking journey because I had to manage some Mikrotik devices and then started searching the internet for some courses on the topic, but there was no solid reliable course. I don't remember which platform it was but, I remember when you asked that you wanted to make an MTCNA course and if people were interested. I am glad I found your channel, you created lots of valuable videos, the live videos were especially awesome. Thank you for that. Regarding the community, there are a bunch of bad apples in it, but can be safely ignored. Other than that it's a great community, lots of people trying to genuinely help.

    I love the Mikrotik hardware platform. As you say, you can put labs together for next to nothing and learn some really advanced topics. The only thing I don’t like about the hardware is the sheer amount of different switch chips they have used so trying to work out if a device will have hardware offloading for bridge VLAN filtering is a real pain. Even some of their newest kit doesn’t let you do that (ax3) whilst older trusted bits of kit (Hex-S) do. Keeps me busy in my spare time :)

    I worked with Cisco for 8 years, but when I learned Mikrotik I realized how quickly and flexibly you can configure network devices. I agree Mikrotik is an ideal tool for studying the network and network devices. Thank you for your videos, I’m very glad that you are with us again :)

    Thank you for the video. You are absolutelly right. I cannot learn what I do not understand. Working with MikroTic and WinBox gives me understanding of things and feeling that I know what I am doing.

    I have become a big Mikrotik fan and agree with you. We get so much more value for less money. Would love to learn more and just bought the LoraWan module R11e-LR8 to use in a Rbm33g. I want to run Thingsboard in a container inside a virtual CHR. Something for you to pickup and guide us in? So many posibilities 😊. Keep up the good work.

    We'll miss you in SA bro. All the best to you and the family. Love your videos. Could you do a "How to become an ISP series"? Like start to finish. That would be interesting. Maybe also an SD-WAN video.

    Missing SA too, our sun and meat just feels different. I think that could definitely be an interesting series so will keep the idea pinned, as for SD-WAN I will need to look at some other vendors for it as MT doesn't natively do it and the cloud companies that claim to provide SD-WAN services only scratches certain parts of SD-WAN and aren't a true SD-WAN solution.

    i think the only things that really changed were BGP, OSPF and routing filters, everything else is either exactly the same (such as the firewall) or almost the same (such as routes).

    Can I use the Microtik equipment to replace my Ubiquity access points? Is there also an equivalent to the Unifi Controller?

  • @TheNetworkBerg

    @TheNetworkBerg

    9 ай бұрын

    The short answer is yes, MikroTik has its own types of access points like the hAPs or cAPs that you can buy to use for wifi access. There is a similar tool called CAPSMAN that runs directly on MikroTik. Although I think myself and many others prefer using alternates like Ubiquity over MikroTik for Wifi access. So it's not something I would use or recommend personally.

    is there a way to limit mac learning to a certain number in mikrotik switch using ROS without specifying the exact mac address ? thank you sir

  • @BattousaiHBr

    if you're looking to block certain MAC addresses, you can do that through bridge filters (or offloading to the ASIC on switch ACL if you have properly configured L2/L3 offloading)

    While I usually enjoy listening to the content of this channel, this video does suspiciously feel like a mere promotional exercise pushing for mikrotik hardware. I think you should disclose whether this video was sponsored or not, and whether you have any form of financial ties with mikrotik.

  • @TheNetworkBerg

    @TheNetworkBerg

    This video is not sponsored, I have not taken any sponsorships and I have 0 financial ties with MikroTik or gain to push MikroTik, I just happen to like their platform as I've used it for many years where I built and managed an ISP on their equipment with it making me fairly proficient with their stuff so it is seen a lot on the channel. I really would like to stay away from taking sponsorships because the one time I wanted to try and do it I was pretty much told what to do and not to do in my own video so I scratched the idea completely and just ignore companies looking to pair their product with me. If I ever do take a sponsorship I will definitely stress it in the video as it would be completely biased. KZread also stresses that you specify if any content is sponsored before uploading if you do not then your channel can get a strike.
