    Nicole is beautiful. Very inspired by Phelps' and Nicole's story and struggle with mental health. Thank you for your candidness!

    With respect to you Carson, Michael, and Nicole, thank you for the interview and the work you're doing. I wish you all much success, peace, and happiness. I've got an anxiety disorder for one thing and I've found mindful meditation so helpful. I loved Nicole sharing how she's learned not to judge, shame, try to fix Michael, and teaching the boys empathy.

    I always loved Carson since his early days of hosting because his interviews always had a deeper sense of connection than other famous hosts. He's right in saying that Nicole is a big part in helping Michael and other families with the struggle of MH management.

    Thank you very much for talking so openly and honestly about mental health challenges and how you 3 are rising to such a difficult challenge. My boyfriend died by suicide some years ago, and it was the most horrible experience. It is not something you really get over actually. It just feels so sad still. So, thank you very much. ❤️

    I am an avid mental health awareness advocate and spoken word performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my KZread channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates.

    Wow... I was just listening to this while working in Photoshop(it went to it from another story) and didn't know who the interviewer was. When I saw it was Carson I was so shocked! It just shows how little we know about people and what assumptions we can make based on just a little bit of information (oh, he's the upbeat host of AI... he can't be having depression, etc.) We forget about them also living the day to day grind of life.

    It is hard for me to understand how a man who seemingly _has everything_ can have episodes of severe depression. Does Michael have a chemical imbalance in his brain?

  • @mondakindle6869

    @mondakindle6869

    Anyone can be diagnosed with depression and it does not have to be associated with a chemical imbalance. Just because you have everything at your finger tips does not make someone happy.

    It's what motivates him to try and achieve everything. It could be a lack, a feeling that he's not enough, that he always has to prove himself. It probably goes back to his father leaving the family when he was very young. Through swimming he found a number of father figures but never his actual father. Through swimming he found accolades but not unconditional love. The more you achieve the more conditional the love is actually. It's when you can be totally average successwise and people love you and care about your ups and especially downs, that you gain real self worth. We are social animals who want to be loved when vulnerable. It goes back to childhood and infancy and never goes away.

  • @sharonsolana

    @@ahalpert Thank you for your comment and sharing your insight! I have heard men say, when their wife is proud of them, they soar! Also, Michael must receive unconditional love from his children who no doubt adore him. Are you saying the lack of love from Michael's father love supercedes the love Michael receives from his wife, mother, and children? Also, I am under the impression that if a man is financially successful, he is fulfilled.

    @@ahalpert Well said. He has accomplished what he has in the world of swimming BECAUSE OF/IN SPITE OF his ADHD, anxiety and depression. It is these very challenges which have inadvertently driven him to succeed and excel.
