How Marine Recruits Are Trained To Fight With Bayonets
We got an inside look at how United States Marine Corps recruits are trained to fight with bayonets in basic training. Senior video correspondent Graham Flanagan spent five days at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, SC, where he observed various stages of training.

A bayonet doesn't run out of ammo, doesn't need to be reloaded, doesn't jam, etc. That's a 7-8 inch, tempered high carbon steel blade with a clip point and serrated edge.

We did this when I was in OSUT at FT. Benning in '91 it was a very good stress release.
I loved pugil stick fighting in boot camp. One big difference now is the lack of water. In 1982 MCRD San Diego we fought on the "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" where the loser of the fight went for a "swim." Semper Fi, Marines.

@Jesus Christ okay Jesus Christ. For one who appears to be a follower of Christianity, you seem to have a lot of bitterness inside considering the fact that you just raged at a random commenter(me). It is just that I like Business Insider's type of videos on training because they actually contact the military and HAVE SUBTITLES. Oh well. It's never too late to see a psychiatrist.
I'm amazed by their focus on safety. Decades ago militaries all over tye world just used wooden sticks and no protective padding whatsoever for bayonet training. Maybe it's because they want to be sure the recruits can fight many bouts in the same session to build their stamina? Or is it because they don't actually care if the recruits get good at bayonet fighting or not, since bayonet engagement are extremley rare, and it's just physical training?
@Shaun_Jones
Жыл бұрын
In the old days recruits used to actually die occasionally in training. It’s probably considered poor form to send someone’s kid home in a box before they even passed boot camp.
@tonij9089

Bayonet training is still useful. You run your long gun and sidearm ( if u have a sidearm) dry then you need a weapon that won't run outta ammo and has some range on it to where you can kill your opponent and they can't touch u. I will take it. Keep a bayonet lug on my hd shotgun.

Pugil stick and bayonet training have been Marine Corps staples for many years . I did notice that the Pugil sticks and what used to be called the Bridge over troubled water are same as in my day . I also noticed they are using the old style M-16 for bayonet training as back in my day .I would however like to know if bayonets are still effective attached to the collapseable stock M -4 carbine.

Weight class? I never got that. I made it to the semifinals with the pugil sticks. We were not allowed to really go at it, maybe somebody had just got hurt or something. The close combat choking each other out numerous times was the hardest for me. I had to help the moron, get off my Adams apple so that I would passout- several times in a row. Seek out, close with, destroy the enemy, that's what it's supposed to be about, not expressing feelings.
