How Many Titans Are Actually In The Rumbling?

Фильм және анимация

Hey guys in this video i will be calculating how many colossal titans were in the rumbling.
There have been many vague references to there being millions of titans in the walls, but with the information given, it should be pretty straight forward to determine a pretty close guess to how many titans are unleashed unto the world currently.

    Lets calculate how long ymir would take to make these titans. (I used "." to indicate decimal numbers, and "," to indicate the power of thousend for reading) Decide the titans volume, decide the volume of her bucket... Then assume that each bucket takes additional walking, and sculpting. Even just one collossal would take a monumental amount of time. For the sake of simplicity imma assume that the volume of the collossal titan is about 33% of a cylinder. 60m(the feet are burried for stabillity) By 12.5m, and the 33%= 2454.37 cubic meters. (radius^2*pi*height) *1000 cuz each m3 holds 1000l 2,454,370 litres per titan. Then the bucket. I assume its a simple 10l bucket. Thats 245,437 walks per collossal. Even if she took one minute per bucket (which is definitely wayyyy to fast) it would take 170.5 DAYS PER TITAN DEAR GOD. then multiply that by 573,084 for all the titans in the wall... 267,610 years... she spent at least over 267 millennia mentally doing that task..... You can easely modify the awnser if you think that a minute per bucket is too slow (double the time if you think it fits better, or multiply by 5, i dont mind), or if you think that the titans are 50m tall (*5/6) I know my method was very very crude, but i hope it shows the immense amount of labour that Ymir had to endure for only one command.

    @@kubajadrzak1123 Well I think it would be better to say it wouldn't be world ending but I think it still qualifies as a problem. Sure there are weapons that could kill the titans but they are still limited in number and there are other problems too. For example let's say we want to nuke them all. Sure humanity has enough nukes to kill them all but depending on where the rumbling originates most of the nuclear arsenal might not be in range and even if it was the amount of nukes needed to kill them all would have serious and long lasting effects on our environment. And when it comes to killing the titans with other weapons they are also limited in number and even more limited in their range of operations. Not to mention the fact that there are less than 20 million active soldiers in the whole world. That's less than 40 men against a single titan. Not to mention the fact that the number of weapons that are actually capable of targeting the nape of a titan is not that big. Considering it's a moving target the size of a human in the height of 50m and you are either required to be able to fly (only way to get behind them) or blast through the neck. So in essence it might be possible to kill the titans but they would most likely destroy multiple countries if not a whole continent before finally being stopped.

But yes it's true that the nukes would do more damage than the titans but only if they are killed fast and even then I would still count that as the titans "merit" because we were forced to use nukes to kill them.

    Also I think that most people today are vastly overestimating the capabilities of nuclear weapons. Most of their effect comes from two factors which are the radiation and the capability to destroy concentrated population centers. They aren't used in wars because they simply aren't effective against military units spread across a large area and are better utilized as threats to large civilian populations which no one wants to start. A much more effective way to deal with the titans would be either non nuclear bombs and missiles or artillery fire.

    @dieudelamodestie2 жыл бұрын

    okay, so your vid motivated me to expand the math here ! First of all, the titans are 60 m tall not 50, so if we redo the calculus, it brings us : 6974300.4 meters of total circumference of the three walls divided by the ratio shoulder/height (25.8% of 60m) 15.48m = 450 537 titans, plus the same approximation for the districts and you get 462 713 collossal titans in tolal ! So, okay, it's not millions of titans, but i will show you that it is still widely enough to trample all the ennemis and to keep moving forward ! the average speed of someone walking for a globally standard height of 1.75m is around 4.8 to 6 km/h so we will say it's 5 km/h. If we multiply the speed by the gain in height, it will be: 5km/h x 60m/1.75m = 171,42857km/h But we can argue that they walk slowly, so we can approximate that marching speed to 3km/h for a human: 3km/h x 60m/1.75m = 102.85714 km/h So it's still the speed of an auto going full speed on the road (depending on the laws of your country obviously). Next is the lenght of it and now i must warn you we will start to dive in big SPOILERS !!!!!! If we take all the titans shoulder to shoulder and they start trampling in 1 line, that line would be : 6974322,4m + 188495.4m (the ones that were on the districts) = 7162817.8 meters long so 7163 kilometers ! (just check on google maps to realize the insanity of the scale) But you can argue that when eren start the rumbling on the first city, they look like a wall of numerous titans and that's true ! so there is not a line but we should'nt assume he does that same disposition everywhere. When he is in front of fort Salta, we can see that it looks roughly like a checkerboard of 10 titans, if we were to assume that's the same disposition everywhere (wich is surely not the case but we will see it on the less horrible perspective) then it gives us : 462713 titans / 10 x (15,48m x 2) = 1432559 m or 1433 kilometers wich is roughly the same distance between Miami and Washington ! Now you can imagine that the less worst scenario is a wall of titans stretching in 1 line from Miami to Washington advancing at 103 km/h to the west coast. Now for the worst scenario : (yeay) After Eren has landed his troops and they went further in the continent, they could stretch to a line of 1 in areas non populated (Eren doesn't need to fuck the nature, unless they continue the cycle of hatred, then he will keep moving forward until all trees are destroyed) and walk in group of checkerboard of 10 in strategic zones (towns and military areas), so given the density of population on the real world, i will do an approximation that 85% of titans are stretched and 15% are attacking the strategic points. So that gives us a line of : 85% of 7162817,8m = 6088395,13 meters so 6 thousand kilometers long ! with this lenght, he can land his titans all across Africa's east coast, India and arabian countries and start the rumbling ! Now for the final math, we'll see if the timing of Eren arriving at Fort Salta is realistic : First of all, we need to know that even though the map of Aot looks like ours, it isn't bcs if you compare Eldia to real life Madagascar, the walls cannot fit inside.... But neverthless, if you were to start walking from south of South Africa and walk until Bordj Badji Moktar (Very roughlythe place where Fort Salta is if it were the real world, you can check it in chapter 132) you would need to travel 8400 kilometers and depending on the speed it would take : 8400km / 103 km/h = 81,5 hours so roughly 3 days and half or 8400km / 171 km/h = 49 hours so 2 days So yeah, the timing makes sense (honestly i don't remember how much time passed in the manga but i think that it's the result) Feel free to comment if you have another suggestion, pov or to correct a mistake i would have done Thx !

    In the manga its specifically mentions that there are tens of millions of colossal titans buried within the wall. You can easely modify the awnser if you think that a minute per bucket is too slow (double the time if you think it fits better, or multiply by 5, i dont mind), or if you think that the titans are 50m tall (*5/6) I know my method was very very crude, but i hope it shows the immense amount of labour that Ymir had to endure for only one command.

    actually each district walls has 58(and that times 12 is 696), i did it by simply counting from where district wall meets the main wall to the gate section at the outer most part in which each section of the walls in general is a colossal titan, so by adding all 3 of the main wall titans(588,000) to the district ones you get:588,696.

    Comment for people that were asking how did the titans manage to trample almost everything. First of all, aot's map hasn't been showed. There's theories that Paradis island is Madagascar but it isn't confirmed. Therefor we can't really calculate it 100% accurately. But let's say there's around 550,000 titans and their shoulder's length is 15m (15m because i've seen different comparsions and they all say shoulder's length is 1/4th of titan's height). If they all lined up perfectly, they would cover 8250km (let's make it around 8000km just in case there's less titans) Africa, which is the biggest continent, is 7400km from west to east (best distance) and 8000km from north to south (best distance). If they lined perfectly, they would be able to trample Africa in one run. However, there's a problem. Titans weren't perfectly lined, as we saw that they formed multiple rows. If AOT's map is based on our map and titans lined up perfectly, they could trample everything. But since titans didn't line up perfectly and they managed to trample almost everything, then AOT's map has to be smaller. I hope this gives you the idea of how big rumbling really is. Thanks for spending some minutes of your life with my comment and have a nice day!

    IF that world map shown in the basement chapters are anything to go by, AOT's is basically Earth but flip north to south. Problem here though is that Paradis is obviously way bigger than Madagascar; the 480 km radius of the outer wall would easily stretch out into the Indian Ocean and Mozambique Channel. The world literally needs to be twice the size of our Earth to accommodate any of this. Also someone on reddit did the math what the rumbling would look like if the titans were always in formation as the manga shown. Basically it would line up on the East Coast US from NYC to Charleston, SC. (or NYC to Virginia Beach if the AOT Earth is twice as big)

    The line of titans would be about 7000km wide which is more than Africa is in any direction (Africa is a bit less than 6000km in a Nort to South direction) which means you only really have to calculate how long it would take for a single titan to walk across africa. If we say they walk about 30 km/h (which I think is still too slow because of how huge they are) it would only take 200 hours or 8.3 days to cross the continent, which in my opinion is not long in the grand scheme of things.

    I got a similar number by my own estimates: 465,561 The main difference was our assumptions in the lenght of the Wall Titans from shoulder to shoulder. Titans aren't always porportionate to humans, so I went by the original size shart comparing a human to all known titans at the time, including the Colossal Titan. In said chart, Bertholt's Titan is illustrated as having a shoulder length of 20 meters, hence why my number is smaller than yours. The disctricts I just eyeballed at the time, counting the wall segments each as a colossal, giving about 58 each, or 696 in tital. Granted, I never felt happy with that number as it would make a district wall only around 1.2 km in length.

    If we're looking the rumbling by itself it was moving pretty slowly, I reckon it would take years for them to actually do it (if we're looking aot world as ours), but compared to allied forces that tried to stop them they seem to move pretty damn fast since by the time allies came to the continent by boat the whole rumbling already passed the ocean and Marley was crushed. So their speed doesnt make much sense in the story.

    573K Titans are involved in the rumbling... And an AC-130 can hold around 1500 rounds of the 155mm howitzer. That means if only a single fleet of AC-130 is sent to dispatch the Rumbling, it will just take around 574 sorties to clear the rumbling out, excluding Eren.

    @@Kalenz1234 actually, no. Especially given HOW they tanked them. Some Collossals are actually taken out by the ship artillery. But remember, these ships are at a period where Dreadnought are just recently built, with no fire control radars, gyroscopic stabilizers, and the like. Some of the ships there aren't even the most modern for the time, and still inaccurate. Also, ship artillery fire slowly. Besides, the Collosals flipped them from underneath the waves. It will also be commented later, but Air Power is the only way to stop the rumbling, but your bombs must be accurate or large enough. The Marleyan airship attack failed because none of their bombs hit any titan (as airship bombs are notoriously inaccurate even in real life), but if the same scenario happened with a B-17 like aircraft or any modern day jet, the results will be different.

    I also calculated this, long time ago, but with a different values; the titans measures are: 49/7 (if you want to do it as a human body it is about 1/7 width and length) So, with that values the number is 996,000 (without the cities) After I was watching your video, I tried to calculated the cities, but with about 6/6, it adding 26,441 more titans. So, in the end we got 1,022,441 titans...
