Schmeichel was a pioneer of goalkeeping distribution in this country. The nation was in shock at how he could comfortably throw the ball to either wing from his own area, it was unheard of at the time. His kicking was also well above average at the time for a keeper.

Comparing Bruce to Barthez would be more accurate than Schmeichel. Now if were talking 80s, big Nev the bin man was the keeper of the times.

Toure massively underrated, had one of the best seasons of all time in 13/14 not just for a midfielder but for any player and had the ability to do everything on the pitch. Watching him was like watching a fully grown man playing against primary school kids and I can never understand why he’s looked past so easily in these conversations? Dominance personified as a player and even though his premier league career wasn’t massively long I think it was plenty long enough for his name to be up there with the best of the best

He was indeed great but his prime was short and he was not a very good team player. I cant swap Scholes, Keane and neither Silva for him.

Fair to put kompany, Silva and aguero in there. City wouldn't be where they are now without those three. 3 exceptional players.

That maybe true in the premier league era, but I don't think man utd's all time 11 will change for a while. Two clubs at the opposite ends of the spectrum: one winning trophies and looking forward to the future, and the other constantly looking to the past and remembering what great teams they had.

That fact that 10 out of 11 players in the Man Utd all time XI are retired tells you everything.

I won't ever put Rooney on the bench during his prime. To me he's the best overall forward in the premier league. I think people tend to forget that for the most part of his career he was played as a winger or behind the striker. 2nd all time scorer and assist and won every single trophy on club level.

Recency bias or not, I think De bruyne gets in this team. Vision, finishing, technically almost untouchable. Also underrated strength and work rate defensively. Take out Scholes or silva depending on what balance you want, but I think he brings the best attacking threat with little sacrifice defensively. Also Vidic makes it ahead of either Kompany ot Ferdinand.

Completely agreed, I think De Bruyne was a level or two above Silva who gets more recognition because of better players that played with him for Spain. I also think that Foden will be better than Silva but not as good as De Bruyne. De Bruyne was also stronger and faster than Silva.

This was fun to watch because they heard each other out and were actually lenient towards putting their rivals legends in the team instead of just thinking all of their own players were the best.

Honestly, I would've dropped Silva and had Keano Scholesy and Yaya. For me those are the 3 highest quality midfielders they had to choose from. Loved Silva but Yaya was an absolute machine in his prime.

I would've gone nuts if I didn't see Irwin in as LB and I'm an Arsenal fan! He was mustard, so consistently good going forward and defending and his delivery was excellent. As for the Toure debate, that one season Toure had - You could argue he reached a level that no other CM had ever reached, arguebly surpassed what Vieira, Keane and Gerrard in that utter physical dominance of a central midfield pov. But he only reached that level for one season and although had other strong seasons he never quite hit that level of consistently excellent that the 3 mentioned reached.

For once can not argue with the selections. Well balanced team and what a spine to a team kompany, silva and aguero are.

As a United fan I'd rate prime Vidic over prime Stam, not by much though. Two no-nonsense defenders but Vidic just edged it for the goals and longevity. The partnership he had with Rio was one of the best in Premier League history. Keane could run the midfield on his own in his prime but having Toure alongside him they would be a rock solid unit. Silva gets my vote over my favourite united player, Scholes. He was simply a magician. Put him in a team with the other little magicians, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi, they would be unstoppable. The front three works for me. Aguero's numbers are staggering and he could have gone on to break all records if not for the injuries. Highest goalscorer for both club and country while not being the main striker for most of his career? Rooney is so underrated. And sometimes underappreciated. He sacrificed so much for the teams he played for, and for CR7.

Van Nistlerooy finished top scorer in 3 leagues and is guaranteed to get you 30 plus goals a season so he should have been in that squad.

First time people given Rooney the importance he deserves. He is the most complete athlete, super aggressive and gosh that stamina!

Schmeichel pioneered delivery from the back when it comes to premier league keepers - unlike modern keepers who play out from the back though Schmeichel would start deadly counter attacks with his long throws out to the wings.

I really think that irwin is massively underrated by everyone,he would never seek out any kind of attention or brag,just got on with his job and was amazing at it.

That’s actually insane how Jaap Stam wasn’t even talked about. At their best, Staam is a better defender than Kompany

Having watched Premier league from 1995 onwards keane never really had a season with a lot of assists or goals. I remember keane even playing centre back in Europe in 1996 and playing well so defensive qualities keane did have. I would argue Vieira scored more long range goals and more headers from corners in a tougher era also.

I saw Keane even before his United days and he was an amazing warrior and leader but he wasnt a great player on talent. If the team lacked leaders we can make a case for him but with Kompany, Schmeichel, Irwin, Neville, Ferdinand and even Ronaldo he was not needed. I respect what he achieved but as far as a all time combined great that can not happen. I suspect he wouldnt even make the grade at any premier league club these days.

The top teams in the Premier league were literally fighting it out to sign a young Roy Keane from a relegated Nottingham Forest. He was arguably the best centre midfielder in the world in the early 2000s. A genuine great player on & off the ball.

Every club was fighting for Todd Cantwell a couple of years ago and Giles Barnes when he was at Derby and Jermain Pennant and countless others. Look I respect what Keane brings to the table but as far as footballing talent goes he was nothing special. He wasnt missed at United and was replaced by Carrick who couldnt get into the England squad. Keane in his prime would not of got into France's midfield with Zidane and Viera and Makelele and so on.

Schmeichel was actually renowned for his distribution, his ability to turn a counter attack by throwing the ball full length of the pitch, and it would arrive there faster than a kick out.

You obviously never watched Ali play. He was a genius. He was french player of the year just before he joined us. And even though he was 32 when he joined, I think he got at least 20 assists in his first season.

@@jacksandler5695 No that's not how it works at all. LB and RB are two unique positions and a player has to be proven in a specific one to get in. It's not like midfield 3s or front 3s where you can interchange because the positions are fluid.

Man the midfield should’ve been Silva, Scholes and de Bruyne. You have two who can control the midfield and an agressive forward passer who can guarantee you 3-5 big chances per game

To be honest there is also a lot to say about Kompany to captain. Kompany was way more level headed, but also I thing he would prefer not to captain it that would help to avoid conflicts. But Roy and Vincent could have excellent bad cop - good cop dynamic (regardless who would be captain and who vice captain).

Jaap Stam was better than Vincent Kompany surely but maybe his time and service for City helps to swing it.

Totally agree with the Ali Benarbia inclusion what a player . He was streets ahead of every other player on the pitch . Also I think he was about 32 when we signed him .

@@ironheade22 don’t need Kompany with Vidic and Rio, Man U have GOATed midfield as it is (Scholes, > KDB, Keane > Fernandinho). As for strikers… maybe Aguero gets in on second thoughts, but it’s very tight.

They shouldn’t have used Cristiano’s new picture, only his first stint warrants being in the team.

TBH I always rated Vidic higher than Ferdinand, actually any player Ferdinand was paired with made him a better player so I'd just remove Ferdinand for Vidic/Dias/Stam

One of the toughest all time 11 to make, maybe Arsenal v Man United would be more difficult to make...

Keane left in 2005 and Utd still won leagues and a European cup. They didn't miss him.

We never replaced scholes he's arguably one of most naturally gifted England has produced, came back from retirement and won the leauge again and we havnt won 1 since, fergie left too, for me scholes & fergie are irreplaceable

When they were going through it, I thought the midfield was imbalanced as it didn't have a leader in there. Then they put Keane in and problem solved.

Combined City & United team 😳 really. I can see why half and half scarves sell so well when you play each other.

You can make an argument that all 11 should have been utd but at the same time all 11 currently can be man city too

Look I love Yaya but I cannot see this team without de bryune. I know he’s still has more years to play but you got to say de Bruyne can run a game just a little more than Yaya. Yaya was a monster but de Bruyne has power and arguably the best passing ability ever seen in the history of the league.

Remove his penalties, how many goals did Rooney score as a striker for a team dominating the league???? Rooney is bang average hence him never ever being linked to top clubs abroad. Madrid and Barca and co wouldn't dream of signing such a player. Yet every team in the world would sign De Bruyne given the chance even at his current age.

Need both Cantona and Beckham in any (best 11), because they were masters of their disciplines.

Dead certs for Man United during the Premier league era are Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Evra, Van Der Sar, And Vidic. Giggs has the highest amount PL assists. His consistency over 20 odd years is unmatched. Btw, I would also have Van Nistlerooy over any talks of Cantona. Van Der Sar, Vidic (Rcb), Kompany (Cb), Evra (Lcb), Keane (Cdm), Scholes (Lcm), De Bruyne (Rcm), Giggs (Lw), David Silva (Rw), Rooney (Cf). Bench - Peter Schemeichel, Rio Ferdinand, Jaap Stam, Yaya Toure, Park Ji Sung, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kun Aguero.

Keane is in any all time best team!!!!
