How many big rainbow trout can we catch? [Creek Trout fishing]

Спорт

Big rainbow trout move into this creek during Autumn. Me and Angel each caught a heap of big rainbow trout up to 5lb and had a really good day's trout fishing.

That orange one was getting them all day. Did you see the one coming out from under the trees and chasing it downstream? You'd think it was a cicada in summer!

Yea I could make it out, would have been cool to see in the flesh. I liked the snag that turned into a fish, if only that happened more often!🤣

@haydenstewart1659 yeah it was definitely better in real life. That log fish was so funny, still not entirely sure what happened there. I suspect the fish took it and then unsnagged me in the process.

Decent size fish for the day with good stable winter weather. Awesome. The slushies definately seem to be the meal of the day.

It was really nice to have some good weather for a change. Those slushies surprised me. The are bright and big but darn the fish liked them even in the clear water.

Hi Johan, those chunky four pound logs sure give you a good fight, especially on the upper reaches! Down at the river mouth on a dark night they just look surprised on hook up and turn tail and run back to the lake center. Upper reaches they take umbrage, after all the effort they took to get there and then to be fooled, not on. Anyway, good fishing. It will be time soon to buy a new licence and get back to some serious winter fishing on the big T next month. Cheers mate. Harera

I haven't had a big brown yet this year, pity this log turned into a rainbow but hopefully I'll sneak another trip before the end of the season and head upstream to see what I can find. I'm looking forward to the winter fishing on the T. I plan to do a bit of swinging and have got a TRC line now for my 8wt so I'm keen to try that out. Tight lines.

@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing Hi, I bought the Orvis Helios 3D #8 rod to replace my Killwell that I smashed on the T swinging a big lure. Big mistake, should have bought the #6. The technology in rods has changed so rapidly that my knowledge has not kept up with the improvements. I find that where I use to have a heavier rod before I can go down to a #6 on the T and have the same results yet do less damage to my shoulder. Mind you I managed to break the top tip on the Helios just like I did on the Sage and the Kilwell and CDC. The only rods that I have not broken was my first fibre glass rod and my first carbon fibre rod. Mind you they were heavier, but in those days I could only compare them to split cane rods. Now I go for the lightest and least carry gear I can manage! Back to Turangi on 16 June with hopes for better results. Cheers mate. Harera

@@pierevojzola9737 I just fished with the T for the first time in a long time with my 8wt Primal mega and a Tongariro Roll Cast line. It was a real please. Using speycasting techniques on a heavier rod required a lot less effort to cast those heavy setups and I could use the same line on my 6wt on the TT as well. I want to try putting that line on my trout spey rod since it's pretty similar to a scandi line anyway and at 380 gr perfect for my 11' 5wt. I am very curious how nymphing with a spey rod wiland this line will combine. I'll keep you posted. I am looking for the least effort as well because I have some issues with casting as well so anything that reduces effort helps.

I need to look into euro nymphing, I have put it on he back burner as a maybe one day, but still not sure, I find between indicator nymphing and micro-Skagit I have enough to keep me occupied, cheers.

I must say I only euro in winter on a couple of rivers, in summer I like to cast my fly line and if I can a dry dropper rig. The trout spey/micro skagit is also really growing on me. Been having a bit more success with it lately too. It's just another good tool to have in the box so worth learning when you get the chance.

Nicely done! I caught a 4lb-er out of the exact same spot you did at the first of the video. I also had the exact same reaction, I thought I had snagged. Maybe it was the same fish / same tricks :)
