I just started watching your videos today - the're great, and super helpful. I only found it because I was trying look up how to dye edible rice paper, I didnt find that but I was glad to find this. I think I want to try sumi-e on rice paper because of it. Thanks - these are fantastic!

You need to cover the backing paper with at least two layers of newspaper. Change the newspaper when it gets wet.

Flour is not cellulose. It is starch (amidon), wich is a natural polymer of glucose. It is a natural strong adhesive and more importantly for conservation it is a reversible one, so it can be removed even after ages by water. Its only flaw is it's vulnerability to molds and insects but that can be corrected by proper storage or use of modern preservatives or biocides. I would say chinese mounting is a time proven technique using highly permanent natural materials that have NO synthetic match.

Your statement Chappbe is partially incorrect. Wheat paste glue has been used for centuries and is archival and works very well. Because it is water soluble you may have some problems in humid climates. If you use regular wheat flour- pests are attracted to it and may have worms or insects eating at it. To avoid pests use pastry flour which is a better refined flour and bugs aren't attracted to it. Unfortunately Henry, using silicon film is expensive and although messy the wheat paste is cheap

The consistancy could be thicker than you need during cooking with hot water. You may add more cold water to dilute it before using.

@chappbe Thanks for your comment and info. BTW, this was an old video and I have been using silicone film paper for dry mounting for three years. Please see my other videos on dry mounting with silicone paper. Thanks!

Pastry flour is gluten free- so look for gluten free flour. Pests are attracted to the gluten.

+Oceano Pearls You can simply skim it. You can add more boiling water until the paste is cooked. You need to use a protecting sheet of paper(or two layers of newspaper) on top of the backing paper and do not press that hard to break the backing paper.
