Product information:
Easy to use heat-sensitive Silicone Paper for dry mounting. Silicone coated on one side. The acid-free adhesive melt at 180F heat and bonds to paper, fabric, plastic, wood, etc. as it cools off. It flows under heat and pressure, and can be patched, overlapped and pieced together. It is removable when reheated. The release paper keeps adhesive film clean and makes adhesive film easy to handle and protect the artwork and the iron or press machine.
Great for dry mounting thin papers, rice paper, tissue paper, parchment, watercolors, silks, and other fabrics.
Basic Mounting Method 1: Direct Mounting
In this method the orginal painting is mounted directly to the silicone paper.
1. Dampen the painting first. You may spray the original painting evenly with water.
2. Cut the silicone paper to the size exactly same as the original painting or slightly smaller.
3. Put 4 layers of denim cloth on the table as mounting surface.
4. Set the iron temperature to 180° F (between silk and wool) and start the ironing movement from center out, first in cross and then in X movements to avoid bubbles.
5. Apply less pressure in the beginning and gradually increase pressure later. Don't press too hard or set temperature too hot. In other words you want to avoid any big fold or wrinkles which would become permanent. Small wrinkles can be streched out easily with hot iron.

Basic Method 2: Indirect Mounting.
This method is transfer the silicon adhesive film to the backing material first, then take the release paper off and mount the painting on. Here are the steps:
1. Place the silicone release paper filme side facing down, or mounting board, foam board etc..
2. Iron it along the edge and let it cool a little bit.
3. Cut the Silicone Release Paper a little bit larger (1/4" - 1/2") than the board along the edge. (No need to measure!)
4. Peel the release paper off and save it for use in step 6.
5. Trim the adhesive film along the board edge with a glue gone, knife or scissors.
6. Lay the artwork face up on the adhesive film and cover it with the release paper from step 4.
7. Now it's ready to put into a heat press machine or an iron.
The more you use the more advantages will be found.
FAQ:
Please send me eBay emssage if you have any questions.
Q: When would you use dry mounting and when wet mounting?
A: Good question! If you use western watercolor pigments on rice paper they would bleed when wet mounting so dry mounting would avoid such problem with color running or ink bleeding. Some rice paper are very thin and maybe too fragile to wet mount. If you are in a hurry, dry mounting takes less time than wet mounting.

Thank you for your comment and feedback!
@Krystinell 1. Good question! Mounting is not only to make the paper flat, but also to bring back the values and tones of the color and ink back to their wet stage. You know when the ink or paints are wet they look brighter, when dry they fade. But by mounting they come back, as if they are still wet! Flatten it along does not help in that regards. 2. Silicone mounting paper is single sided with film. It is a special kind designed to mount rice paper. For more info, please check BHA site. Thanks
The silicone release paper is very commonly used in photography and library in the West. Rice paper is easier to get wrinkling and waving compared to watercolor paper, and in fact that is considered a advantage. You always need to mount it before framing.
Thank you for this tutorial! I have limited space for the wet mounting, and it always made my colors bleed; I would have to wait months to let them dry thoroughly. I can't wait to try this!
Dude, she’s a gem 👌🏼
@xocieira Yes, you should try it. There is no bleeding, and takes only a few minutes. Silicone dry-mounting paper solves the bottleneck in the sprerad of Chinese brush painting.
Thank you so much, I found this video very helpful.
Very charming and a good communicator
@xocieira If you use western watercolors or whaterever that cause bleeding when wet then do not spray with water. Just iron it directly to see what happens. Or you can do it right after you paint it and before the paints get dry. No, you don't wait to wait for two weeks to dry mount it.
You are welcome! Test on a less worth painting or smaller piece first.;-)
Thank you so much. It is an excellent thing to know.
I use both Watercolor and traditional Chinese painting chips and tubed pigments. Silicone is better than traditional wheat paste because it does not penetrate through the original painting and does not cause bleeding espacially with Western watercolors.
Super handy, thank you!
@blueheronarts Actually I have tried it after purchasing the paper, and the color inks DO bleed when lightly sprayed with water. I had let it dry for about 2 weeks before attempting the dry mounting process. Guess i'll Have to wait longer.
hi henry. i have two questions: 1. what happens if we don't mount the rice paper (wet or dry) and we just wet it, iron it and frame it (with glass in front of it)? 2.what kind is the silicone paper- with film on just one side? what is the minimum gsm (weight) needed? any other special conditions? p.s. thank you for sharing with us your knowledge, you have so many useful videos. i'm a regular viewer and i guess you have a bunch of other regulars :D
Thank you!
Perfect
I was in Vietnam, I would love to ink painting and studying, is indeed attractive, usually when I am done with lake and paper competitive compensation, I do not know how to do this. Can you just help me this paper is what kind of paper (name of paper) so I am looking to buy in Vietnam
No. The temperature is 170 deg Fahrenheit or 77 degC. It won't burn anything.
I was struggling with the idea of wet mount for my banners, the wheat paste, brush, and processes , awaiting for it dry..... this will remedy everything. Question: how long it lasts or do I need to re-do it after many years? Why did you do it twice with a back paper (on another your clip), is the back paper different paper ?

It is permanent. You can leave the release paper on as backing paper, or transfer it to another backing paper or board if you like.
