How Lust Becomes a Counterfeit Love

The acclaimed Amir Sulaiman lends a poet’s sensibility to this discussion with Hamza Yusuf on lust, which Imam al-Ghazali called one of the two main desires that must be broken for spiritual health yet is widely celebrated today. How can we differentiate lust from love?
THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS, A SPECIAL RENOVATIO SERIES HOSTED BY HAMZA YUSUF
Hamza Yusuf converses with scholars, leaders, and writers to explore one of religion's most enduring conceptual frameworks, the Seven Deadly Sins. These compelling conversations shed light on how the sins manifest themselves within us, illustrate their devastating consequences on our culture, and elucidate their corresponding virtues for all of us who struggle with sin.

The temptations facing youth today are tremendous. It doesn't help that sexual licentiousness marches under the banner of civil rights, so those who promote chastity are seen as opponents of progress, as regressive, conservative, religious nutjobs. The pursuit of pleasure is ingrained into modern culture and is made infinitely accessible, infinitely affordable through mobile devices and the internet. There are movements that realise the harms of this openly available fornication, however, the industry is worth so much money, I seriously doubt they will give up without a fight. I realised that we can only rely on and seek refuge in Allah to aid us in our efforts to safeguard the youth and ourselves.

Beginning from timestamp 41:41 I think I kind of get his point exactly, and agree. Take for example most movie industries nowadays, or for someone like me, who watches *_japanese animes_* I can vouch and say with a lot of disappointment, that unfortunately in the last two or three years recently this japanese animation industry has been producing nothing but fanservice shows catering towards mens' viewing pleasure and it results in a *horrific downfall of creativity level* where *_original stories with greater depth value_* are too scarce and almost non-existant, nowadays. Its like, when a civilization gets stuck inside the thick luxuria of carnal pleasures, you cannot possibly ascend above and beyond in an effort to grasp the greater perspectives and values life can offer for you to discover, because you're too busy drowning in the thick throes of lust. What a waste of civilization, what a pure tragedy for humanity today. Civilizations today should understand the importance of the constitutions of a family, first and foremost. Why it should all begin (or get straightened out) from the family unit.

We need such true guiding light, in this modern age where all forms of humanity and virtues were lost. may Allah make you among his righteous Servants and grant u and all believers from His mercy.

It's pretty hard to speak against lust based on the Qur'an or hadith, when Mahomet engaged in it on a daily basis. (11+ wives, concubines, lusting after women, sleeping with Mariyah, lusting after his own son's wife, etc, etc) It's like speaking against war using Sun Tzu as a guide.

@@eggstravagent3801 I watched the video. It is utter nonsense and a weak defense for the immoral behavior of a lustful, narcissistic warlord. Mahomet lusted after women and even had a solution to his lustful behavior. Basically, if you see a woman you lust for, go back home and sleep with one of your many wives or concubines to quell your thirst for the women you lusted after. Sahih Muslim 1407: Interesting even the hadith have chapters on Mahomet’s lust. Chapter: Recommendation to the one who sees a woman and is attracted to her, to go to his wife or slave woman and have intercourse with her Jabir reported that Mahomet saw a woman, and so he came to his wife, Zainab, as she was tanning a leather and had sexual intercourse with her. Interesting the hadith refers to Zainab, the ex-wife of his son, whom Mahomet desired so much, he had Zaid divorce her so he could have her. Mahomet lusted after his own son’s wife. (This despite having 11 wives and countless concubines and slave girls). *Tafsir al-Jalalayn* But you had hidden in your heart what God was to disclose what He was to manifest of your LOVE for her. and of the fact that should Zayd part with her you would marry her and you feared people would say ‘He has married his son’s wife!’ though God is worthier that you should fear Him in all things so take her in marriage and do not be concerned with what people say. *Tasfir Tanwir al-Miqbas* (And thou didst hide in your mind) her LOVE and the DESIRE to marry her (that which allah was to bring to light) in the Qur'an, (and thou didst fear mankind) and you feel ashamed of people because of this (whereas allah had a better right that thou shouldst fear Him) whereas you should be ashamed of allah. How many brain cells do you have to discard to ignore that this is pure lust? May reason guide you to the Truth. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d3WC1bOGk6jVdM4.html
