Bobby, I commend you for taking the time to properly gap your piston rings but I don’t think you positioned them correctly in the bore (vertical height wise) to get the correct reading buddy. You can gap a ring at the top of the bore but remember the taper will always be smaller (thus a tighter gap) lower in the cylider. Check that the gap should be measured with the ring positioned just above the ports.

This is why I got a 4 stroke. I got sick of doing this every 2-3 years. That being said. If your gonna get a 2 stroke these are the better lasting engines to get. The 600 cleanfires can go this long as well. But the rest of them would be a miracle to go 10,000 and still look this good. Nice video.

I always thought it was a pretty cool sound to have that instant Rev to 11,000 RPM. Some of them sound like a ATV which is weird. Skidoo does a great job with the 900 ace sound. It still sounds distinctly like a snowmobile.

The level of wear on this engine is no surprise. It makes bug torque at low revs and 160bhp is no slouch from 800cc. High revving four strokes won't get close on power/wight and anything big enough to get the job done will use more fuel.

Never been a fan of synthetic oil in 2 strokes, we have used "Blue Marble" fossil based for 20 years in our Rotax engines. Chemical scientist that I bought a used sled from told me had researched oils for years and Blue Marble was his choice. Blue Marble claims smoother operation, cleaner engines and better fuel economy and I found all of that to be true. I will say we are running older sleds and engines and I cannot speak for the modern stuff but (knock on wood) we have never had an engine go down or show any signs of wear.

@@bobbyrebussini1466 yeah, I know, leave it to me to have the 600 that blows up, it was running great… till it wasn’t 😂, hopefully be able to tear down the old motor and find out the issue, as I just got a new motor in the sled and picked it up a week ago (yay parts shortages). So so far from my investigation, it looks like a ring spun and caught the exhaust port

You didn’t change the rod bearings or crank bearings and seals. You are insane. The piston and rings never fail on etecs.. it’s the crank seals and rod bearings … if your gonna show people what to do atleast change those. Leaky crank seals is what blows up engines 90% of the time. After 9000+ miles they are worn for sure
