    This guy is not the source. BRP is the source. I'm sure hes a decent small engine guy. And I'm sure his experience has taught him a trick or two. But his information is false on everything he has to say after the intervals topic.(read my comments above) Just remember hes a man with an opinion. It doesn't make him right. I've been in this industry for probably as long or longer than he has. It doesn't make me right either......I'm just pointing out a blatant untruth to the dealer only spark plug portion of this video.

    So is there a proper FP of torque for the plug to index properly?

  • @mudbrats

    @mudbrats

    2 жыл бұрын

    skidoo says all plugs 20ft lb but you are not going to get a torque wrench in an etec - no room. If you still believe indexing is important, know that the window of success is a 270degree area to be properly indexed - the opening will never be exact to the intake and youll likely strip a plug if you try. If its in a 270degree zone of it, youre fine

If you take a plug that indexed properly and look at where the threads start on the plug and find one the same it will index properly, or you can do as some people have posted and bye a pay check worth of plugs.

    For the plugs to always index properly right out of the box, the threads in the heads and threads on the plugs would all have to be nearly identical; this seems extremely unlikely. Have you marked and checked the index on these plugs after installing to verify your theory? Also, which direction should the opening of the ground strap face?

    I'm going to have to call BS on that one. I'm completely familiar with indexing and the reason why that is a good thing to do for the best performance but unless the spark plug hole, of every single engine, the hole is tapped clocking the tap exactly the same way there is no way a BRP spark plug can be clocked (indexed) correctly every time. Can't happen!

WRONG!!!!....ill tell you that right now. If that was the case NGK would make 2 different part #'s for your plug and mine........Legally they would have to. I've been doing this parts and service game for a long time. I dont know which dealer is spiffing him for making such false claims but I'm here to tell the public that its BS. As long as you are using that PZFR6F(1550 old)(6876 new) in the 1st gen 600 PFR7AB(1583) in the 800 ILKR8Q7(93819)in the 850 and new 600 (May be exceptions to the rules above so double check before installing) And indexing according to the manufacturers instructions you will be set.

    Sorry, but disagree on dealer plugs will screw right in and be indexed! When motors came out needing indexed plugs it didn’t matter where we got them, MOST of the time we had to index. Also, if dealer plugs were already indexed, how come many times we would try a ‘dealer’ plug in one hole but not work in another. And we were a dealer! And for more info, DO NOT PUT EXTRA WASHERS on them to make them index, try a different plug. You put in a sparky with just the fingers until the washer touches, if it’s exactly opposite, or 180 degrees from where it has to be that one will work when tightened. I/we have already gone through a dozen plugs for a Evinrude Etec V-6 motor just to get plugs that work. Sometimes got lucky and six plugs for 6 cylinder motor, but that was rare.

    how can you guarantee proper indexing by using that plug? the manufacturing process on the heads alone would require exceptional levels of detail to exactly tapping the spark plug threads let alone matching that to the manufacturing of the spark plug itself, and manufacturers aren't in the business of creating perfect clean room required built engines for most commercial uses. I'd be interested to see you get a few random cylinder head and torque them to spec and see how they index. no hate, just I just don't believe it at this point in time

    Plugs shouldn’t be arcing in the boots! If they are, replace your spark plug wires. Arcing only occurs with loose connections. A spark plug connection is designed to have zero gaps between the plug and connector. Electricity can not arc unless there is space. Dyno your indexed plugs vs non indexed. Guaranteed there’s zero improvement with indexing.

    you do realize the index zone is 270 degrees... doesnt have to be exact to the gap. I think a lot of people think it has to be precisely lined up. The 45 degree on either side of the back of the electrode (90 degree area) is the no go zone. So you were in index area if you were within 180 of the opening.
