How Limbic System Therapy Can Help Resolve Trauma
According to Bessel van der Kolk, MD, targeting the limbic system can be one of the most effective strategies for resolving trauma.
But what exactly is limbic system therapy, and why can it be so effective in treating trauma?
In this video, Bessel van der Kolk will share why he targets the limbic system with his clients, and how this work can help to reverse the physiological imprint of trauma.

I have been looking through your videos for an answer to a burning question. I joined toastmasters to help me with my speech, specifically because of my damaged executive function from PTSD. I'm not sure if pushing myself to struggle through these meetings in a panicked state, but desperate to get better, is making things worse. I would be so grateful for some direction.❤️

Really sorry you had to struggle through those meetings. I can relate to what you're describing. If you don't mind sharing, would love to know if things got better. I've noticed that when I push myself too much out of the window of tolerance, then it's even harder to regulate my nervous system. That's why I like the concepts of titration and pendulation (Peter Levine and Sarah Baldwin talk about that) by taking small tolerable steps.

I think it’s important not to push and stay within your window of tolerance & not exacerbate fight-flight. Do smaller intermediary steps that feel safer. 🥰
This works. I have been training with his research institute for months now. Amazing work.
Annie Hoppers Dnr’s training is all about this. I recovered some years ago from EMF and understand now it can heal me from CPSD as well- thanks for information- love this channel-thanks.

This is the perfect explanation for convincing people to regulate their nervous system before they start examining their trauma, especially if they’re hesitant to do so. Thank you so much for this clip
Except basic training can be an incredibly traumatic experience wrought with abuse.

Totally agree with you, Marie. The language during the training is offer very top down. A person in power is telling you what to do with your body. Again.
I can't even use/abuse drugs anymore even if I wanted because it's like my body blocks the effects. It's always trying to make me feel totally neutral and numb. Sometimes certain parts will be able to slightly feel human for a while but it usually quickly gets taken out by old mechanisms. It sucks.
Just lay down in bed while trying to eliminate every thought and wait for the trauma to erupt slowly.
really good . is this guy from holland ? certainly has a good grasp on it

Yes! You picked up the accent correctly :). Dr. Van Der Kolk is originally Dutch, but he's lived in the U.S. for decades. Read "The Body Keeps the Score."
Bioenergetics, Core Energetics and Radical Aliveness work to address the things mentioned in this video.

Do you have any specific recommendations for looking into these? Also, is Radical Aliveness basically what it sounds like it is? Curious!

im curius too
I wish I could explain the sort of internal observations and experience I've had that relates to this but I don't know how. My physiology gets weirder and weirder. I don't know if this has to do with physiology or just psychological/dissociation but lately im having this physical and mental dysfunction points where it feels like 3 or more consciousness streams like get entangled at once. On outside..ill jerk or twist or make a weird sound while on the inside it literally feels like 3 other people mix together and ill experience like the end of ones thought, the emotions of one,and the memories of another all while the controller temp loses body function.

Someone commented below about a seizure and it reminded me of it. It feels like a seizure but not exactly because I've actually had seizures before. It feels like my fricken brain direction is messed up is what it feels like lol
