As an atheist, I can confirm a lot of people who lose their religion do so out of frustration or anger. That was partly why I denounced my own Christianity. But over the years I’ve become more wise, and I no longer feel anger is the reason for my continued lack of belief. I don’t want to prove any religion wrong. I just want to live peacefully and let others live how they want.

I don't want to assume too much, but although you may not be an actual pastor, your thoughts here are very well spoken and edifying to those who need a more practical, relatable view on all these topics. Amazing work on these videos

Brilliant video, I'm not exactly Christian, but I was raised in church and I do believe in a higher power that I have experienced first hand and have my own set of spiritual beliefs, so this video spoke to and moved me on a certain level. I absolutely agree that the peak of existence is when we put our lives in God's hands and submit to his will. It's impossible to not feel peace and fulfillment life when you act as a vessel for him to work through.

Those last two sentences are very beautifully said. I suppose I could say that’s why have my faith in God. I hope you and Christ are good and I hope to see you in heaven someday.

Man this movie had more Christian undertones that I remember! (And Lt.Dan does have a great character arc within the film) Great analysis! 😁 👍🏻 (And I needed to hear that message of crying out to God and letting him guide my paths)

Could you possibly do one of these on the Spider-Man movies? Especially with ATSV tackling things like suffering, free will, what it means to be good, family, etc. I know that movie doesn’t really conclude all those topics but it would definitely be interesting if you could get to Spider-Man.

Great job with this video Holden. I really appreciate in your providing perspective of the value of having a relationship with our Heavenly Father through such an amazing film. I too have had some struggles in my life with addiction and blamed god at times for my trials. I also came to realize that through his will anything is possible. Congratulations by the way on becoming a father.

On the point about Christians and atheists being logical or emotional, I agree fully. If it's proven easily and completely that God exists and a person tries to turn to "science" to disprove it, the motive is emotion every step of the way. But then of course, the more curious will find that even science proves God exists. In that situation, the more emotionally defiant will ignore all facts and evidence and continue to believe in, for example, evolution.

I agree that there are atheists who have emotional reasons for not believing, and have logical reasons for not believing. And a single person can have both. Though I think the test you gave muddies the point you're trying to make. 3:46 An atheist might still reject God in the hypothetical that he exists because they look at the suffering in the word and see the depiction of God of that particular religion, and conclude that He is not worth listening to or worshiping. A moral judgement can be emotional or logical. I think your example overlooks that. Maybe you should specify that if God existed, and He is truly omniscient, omnibenevolent, and omnipotent (& the atheist somehow was absolutely certain of that) then ask the question would you listen and worship Him. I think you just assumed this in your example but clarifying it would help your point. The logical answer would be yes, listen to God, though it's still another question as to whether you ought to worship God. To obey and respect God, yes, but worship seems like another unjustified step. If in this hypothetical, the omnibenevolent God informed you that worship is in fact the correct moral thing, then case settled. But we don't have such a definitive conclusive moral authority.

Hey Holden! I would love to see you do an analysis/examination of the film/book “Boy Erased.” It is a movie(with Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman) that came out a few years ago that is based on a memoir that recounts an experience with LGBT conversion therapy. The author talks about what the experience was like and tries to navigate being both gay and Christian. I would love to hear what you think about it and maybe you could look at some of the conversion techniques shown and explain why they are anti-Christian or illogical. I really enjoy your less common videos such as analysis/vlogs/documentary. Always love your content❤

I wish I could believe this. Not just God, but the premise of this video. My life is nothing but wasted potential and failure. I had all the chances to have a better life, and they were systematically taken from me... And I do mean taken. My current life is close to the worst case scenario, that would've despaired my younger self if he knew. I won't even *dare* to have hope, because every time I do I get punished. If I have hope I Will immediatly be reminded of my status quo, in the most humiliating way. Every cross roads I face, no matter how small, I always pick the wrong way. And I won't take my life because I'm scared of what comes after, or rather what doesn't come after. There's no greater design for me, other than being a cosmic pathetic plaything.

I know how that feels friend I remember that darkness things slowly but surely getting worse, but I also remember how God was my light and how he gave my soul rest. You don’t have to falsely believe that you’re only a cosmic plaything and that nothing comes after this, because I know that Christ has called the weary to bear his yoke which is better than anything else

I (atheist) am just curious (trying to write from the point of view of a religious person), how do you feel your relationship to God? Is it a sense of personal connection to the wider world & people? I once heard a Christian say that they believe in God because they feel they have a personal relationship with Him. Even though they know there are scientific explanations to describe the phenomenon they attribute to God, in their heart they feel love that makes them believe.

I don't mean to speak out of turn, and I've never been the best at wording things, so don't take my word for it and go to the Bible yourself if you are really that curious, but the best way I can think to put it is this: you know that people pray to God, and you may not believe it when they say He answered them. But the prayer itself, along with reading the Bible, is the basis for the relationship. Every time a person opens his Bible, even if he reads the same part over and over, God will show him something new every time if his mind and heart are genuinely curious. That's not something you can really do in any other religion. Same goes for prayer, in that when someone prays to the Biblical God, things really do change in the world. Maybe not the way we expect, but usually it is obvious that God is the cause. I don't have a specific example of that, which is why I had the disclaimer at the beginning, but I've seen other Christians experience it often enough that it can't be a coincedence. But even if you want to ignore the spiritual/emotional side of Christianity and just look at science, even there you will find that, at the very least, something supernatural has to exist in order for everything we observe to have been created. Looking further, every scientific fact we see in our world can also be run through the Bible with no issues or contradictions, which should inspire at least some curiosity. I hope this helped you in some way
