What’s the movie Forrest Gump about?
Stupid is as stupid does, says Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance) as he discusses his relative level of intelligence with a stranger while waiting for a bus. Despite his sub-normal IQ, Gump leads a truly charmed life, with a ringside seat for many of the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, meets Richard Nixon, discovers the break-in at the Watergate, opens a profitable shrimping business, becomes an original investor in Apple Computers, and decides to run back and forth across the country for several years. Meanwhile, as the remarkable parade of his life goes by, Forrest never forgets Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), the girl he loved as a boy, who makes her own journey through the turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s that is far more troubled than the path Forrest happens upon. Featured alongside Tom Hanks are Sally Field as Forrest's mother, Gary Sinise as his commanding officer in Vietnam, Mykelti Williamson as his ill-fated Army buddy who is familiar with every recipe that involves shrimp, and the special effects artists whose digital magic place Forrest amidst a remarkable array of historical events and people.

@@HunterKiller762 I was friends with a drill instructor. I was a ROTC 2LT and he was an OCS 2LT and we trained together at Ft. Bragg. At any rate, this fellow was such a pleasant, level headed and accepting person. He really did always see the good in everyone and stay upbeat. I asked him once about his past life as a drill and he said something like "we have to treat them that way - we're trying to make them into good soldiers". I actually think the military does a good job of selecting quality people to be drill instructors (just my opinion).

@@sukhmaidickoff Jenny was terrible to Forrest? Even when he defended her from abusers and perverts, she rejected and disrespected him a lot, for example, when she said he didn’t know what love was, despite her hanging around with losers and having sex with an abuser instead of a good, hard working man, she even molested him by making him touch her, and when he didn’t know what to do,(obviously) she got mad,and when she finally embraced him, it was when she already had a child, and was close to deaths door. Edit: I don’t exactly know if she molested Forrest because she might of had clear intentions, despite those intentions being to have sex with a mentally ill man, but Forrest obviously wasn’t enjoying himself when she made him touch her so I’d call it molesting

Drill Sgt's as a whole, aren't mean (yes there are exceptions), they're tough. They have to establish their authority the moment you meet them. They do this by intimidation. That's why they scream at you when you first meet them. Once you figure out that it's not personal, Basic Training really is easy. Perform your tasks exactly as instructed and you won't have a problem. If you fail at your task, don't make an excuse, just admit you fucked up and do it again, only this time get it right. All you have to do is leave your attitude and your feelings at home with mama, and follow Forrest's advice.

Why did he set the record and put the weapon together so fast? Because he was told to. That’s it. It’s that simple. It’s why he’s so good at ping pong too. Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's shrimp kebabs, shrimp Creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp. Shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potaters, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich...

My niece is heavily mentally disabled and people think it must be horrible for her but she is so happy cause to her she knows no different. I see Gump in this sort of way, especially with the Army, its just someone tells him what to do, he does it. A lot of social nuances escape him which you'd think would make it awkward for him but he doesn't know any different so it's just so easy for him to just 'do'.

Its so funny. I always laughed at the assumption that bubba got them in trouble for talkin all the time and now they gotta scrub the bunk. Forrest may not know or even care, he's just doing what he's told.

I don't know why but after the Drill Sergeant was yelling at Gump, and then Bubba said "Like I was saying!", I laughed my ass off!

I love how Bubba gives zero shits about being interrupted, and after the drill sergeant leaves he's just like "....anyways, like I was saying". Dude is so chill.

As you see, the yelling isn't a sign of displeasure but it's the normal talk of the Drill Sergeants towards the recruits. That's what the shark attack was to get them used to. But they took that away and now the army is getting less disciplined. This is how the drill sergeants really were. Also, I wonder if Bubba is autistic seeing as he's so focused on shrimping and autistic usually focus on a handful of topics much like myself. Bubba goes nuts over shrimp whilst I go nuts over history. I love how passionate he is about shrimping. Forrest was a good friend to help him carry on his family legacy after he was dead. Now that's a danged good friend! He may not have been highly intelligent but he had honor, something we've lost in our society today.
