Typically they are worn for more inportant events some that may be about status, really classy parties, fashion shows, etc. Although people tend to only wear one.

That is mostly true but if they're made out of pure gold (I've never watched the anime so I don't know for sure) there's no way they're puncturing proper steel plate. Gold is dense but incredibly malleable, and in its pure form you don't even really need to heat it much to work it.

@@iexistmeofficial2442 for the most part but you would need to properly reforge it in order to maintain what stability it has. The Perk is you don't need as high as a heat as with something like Steel so you could probably do it with a hot campfire and some basic portable tools. The downside being you would have to reforge it every single time you hit a bone and it would at the very least need to be sharpened pretty much after just a few stabs in flesh.

@@EpiclyEpic808 it's not so much about her strength as it's about the material of the weapon she is using gold is very soft and most likely would not be able to penetrate anything much harder than lead without putting so much force behind the head that it makes the weapon useless. Even if you managed that level of force the weapon is going to be completely useless after one hit. If anything she should be using a diamond-tipped carbon fiber or possibly a depleted uranium weapon to withstand the level of strength she is putting into it at which point she'd probably be able to puncture a tank.

Icepicks are legit items used for breaking down large chunks of ice. It only happens to be useful as an improvised shiv. In the Philippines, we call the action "gripuhin kita" meaning they will turn you into a gripo, which is tagalog for faucet, i.e. hitting a high pressure blood vessel will make blood spurt out like a faucet. When I used to work at a call center, I somehow got under a co-worker's skin with my ribbing and he threatened me with "I will faucet you". I didn't get it until someone pointed out that he means to stab me with an icepick, and he said it that way to comply with the office's English Only policy... 😅😅😅

Technically you can still cut but you'll have to be so accurate that every slash would be from the tip but this is just bleed damage and no deep cuts

even with surface level cuts you can neutralize someone. if you hit the back of the hand, you can cut tendons or veins, and that's instant gg. the same happens with the outside of your arm btw, but it has more fat and muscle surrounding them

My personal favorite is when she tried to serve a tennis ball while being frustrated enough to not pull her strength back. She swung the racket at the ball and seemingly missed only to reveal that she basically turned the ball into a blooming onion.

Well, there are a couple other uses for them beyond just stabbing. If you change where you hold it, after missing the stab, you can still use the retention ring and handle as a blunt instrument. You can also connect the rings with a wire or rope or something, and now you have a means of grappling your enemy, and diverting their attacks. And you have a pair of nunchucks as an emergency backup plan.

To be fair considering her feats even that can be a slashing weapon if she wants it to

They also look a lot like knitting needles, so they look fairly innocent, and if anyone asks questions why you have something like that on you, you pull out a bit of knitting yarn and say that you like knitting. Would for sure work for an assassin like Yor

Nice and simple, straight to the point. Both the weapon and the video.

Yor's fighting style is quite traditional and brings us back to stilettos that were a weapon of choice for both self-defence and assassinations in the Italian wars of corporations/families. *The point* of using them is to easily penetrate leather and to minimize amount of blood splitting on the attackers body because of the Newton's third law. I have a "bell" on your channel and I can remember you talking about that movie from India about a guy who used a knife to stick it into the neck of a bad guy on the floor as a finishing move, rather than slicing it - here is the same idea, Yor doesn't need to slice, especially considering that her weapon is covered in poison. Nonetheless, as a person who have spent part of my life on training, the "trench knife" position of the rings seemed more convenient for my hands, but maybe it is her trade off to make them stealthy in her hair, to not attract too much attention to them. Thank you for your videos! I appreciate your passion.

I feel like it being a pure stabbing weapon kinda adds more versatility to how it can be handled and maneuvered. With a knife, you can only hold on to the handle. With a stilleto, the whole thing is the handle!

Given how simple and streamline the design is, I don't think she'd be too worried about snags.

The lack of an edge was always my one complaint with them. I get that edges mean they can’t be as inconspicuous, but at the same time it halves her options when actually fighting with them.

Hey, as a knife trower, another pro would be they are very good throwing weapons (just like Bo Shurikens on steroids) and the retention ring allows to attatch a very light string to it to retrieve 'em quickly in specific situations

If the blade was slightly narrower you sharpen the edge and make it both a slicing and piercing weapon.

Needles also have built in armor piercing. Some body armor ment to hold up to knives and even bullets aren't designed for needles and can be pierced. Not always but its definitely an advantage for an assassin.

I don't think Yor needs to worry about missing her stabs 💀

These remind me of rondel daggers. Granted those can have edges, but whether they do in combat is ultimately irrelevant.

That thing's a legit icebreaker... You can fight and get to know your enemy at the same time!

Im a knife fighter as well but was also trained in fencing. Ive used stiletto before. The thing with them is high risk/reward. Theyre long to reach vital organs easier and dont have blades to lessen fail points as well as to make it easier to parry and block. A stiletto weilded by someone trained is nothing to scoff at and the grace and speed of the various lunges and stabs is truelly amazing.

Although a knife can be more versatile I think her stilettos are a better assassination weapon. If you know the vital spots, all you need is one shot, these will reach deeper and since they are puncturing not slashing there is less spillage i.e. cleaner job. In short perfect for her as you said.

How bout axe and tomahawk

I'm not a knife expert, but don't you have a risk of these slipping from your hand, especially if there's blood involved? Especially if you aren't using the retention ring, because it's risky and not always convenient.

Some form of guard might also be nice. It doesn't have to be a big ol' crossguard, but I think a mini tsuba or something would at the very least offer just a little bit of security so it's less likely to slip out while not really sacrificing concealment. Maybe some sorta wrapping for the grip too rather than bare metal would be nice as well. Of course, I would prefer to have an actual blade as well, even if it isn't the entire focus of the weapon. Kinda like how a rapier generally still has an edge and can cut just fine, but is obviously optimized for thrusts. That said, a blade would just make this a completely different weapon, but I thought it's noteworthy anyway.

I’m glad you say that it fits her fighting style since every individual anime or irlp can fight differently. Yor has a super human like body so of course something like those stilettos fit her. Especially since she got shot in the butt and was mostly fine, except feeling pain in her behind and downed a neurotoxin and it just numbed the pain

Really appreciate minimizing the volume as low as possible (albeit a bit too low) since you can't adjust the volume. Cause every time I click on a short, I have to mute it cause it's always on full blast, even when my system volume is at 20%. Thank you!

If those ever got stuck in someone, Yor would probably just accidentally pull an Alien Resurrection on the guy.
