I always find it super alienating and toxic for fans to support this, because you are adding to their already heavy workload per day/week. If you truly knew kpop you would also know about the killing schedules they have and how you trying to be on your silly app and you subscribing to their reality shows or live streams would only cause them MORE stress. Ideally we shouldn't really hear about idols other than some few insta pics and maybe a few dance shorts for tiktok or something until their next comeback or until their next commercial appointment.

This video magically appeared EXACTLY when I was thinking I should learn more about Bubble 😂 I actually wasn't even aware of the "messaging them back" part of it, I was expecting it to be just a subscription to the artist's posts. This was really helpful and informative though, so thanks :) You've saved me some digging lol

When JYP’s bubble first came out, you just had to subscribe to the group and not the members. I was subscribed to Twice’s bubble, so it looked like one large group chat amongst the members. I didn’t message them back, but I enjoyed seeing the photos and messages. When they announced that they were going to switch the the salt individual subscriptions I didn’t subscribe to any of the members. It’s expensive and twice has a lot of content already

ooh that's so interesting omg, I didn't know that in the beginning you could just subscribe to the whole group! it's almost as though the company saw what others were doing and realised they could make a lot of money selling each member as an individual subscription which is not only just sad and unfair on fans, but it's also unfair on the artists because that puts more pressure on each of them to be active individually for their own subs rather than it being like a big group thing!

Although idols can’t respond directly, I believe they can see what fans are saying. I remember when Nayeon posted about fans on bubble talking negatively about her body

Yus, I believe so! So kinda like in my (not the best🤣) salad example in the video, idols can see what fans are saying in general and then post a reply that can potentially relate to those rather than replying to individual messages atm

thanks for the informative video! i would personally never waste my time on delusionally sending texts into the abyss lmao, but i know so many that do ㅡ such a sly money-making scheme!

thank you so much! honestly it's something I think I might have considered in the past but nowadays when you look into it like I did for this video and the costs/potential implications, it's something I would personally avoid too 🙈

8:19 Reminds me a lot of the useless discussions american university students so in some classes. we are forced to chat in a discussion board with random classmates for a grade. the discussion of course, is often useless and doesn't really say anything. idols probably feel the same way about bubble.

Great video I’m really looking forward to this short series! I think another way kpop companies try to squeeze money and energy out of is outrage marketing. I have a theory that companies purposefully mismanage their acts so that fans overcompensate and do their work for them.

LOVED this video! I have bubble and here are my thoughts (this is really long sorry): 1) my BIGGEST issue with bubble is the fact that we have to pay for it and you can save videos or take screenshots but it says not to share them but fans share them online anyways. That’s how I knew about it in the first place. And I get that it’s a kind gesture for fans who don’t have the money to spend but that one thing has always irked me. Especially after I got the app and saw that sharing content on other platforms was banned yet people do it anyways. 2) the cost. I only have two bubbles. I got Baekhyun’s when he came back from the military. He’s my ultimate bias and favorite artist in general even outside of K-pop so I knew I wanted his bubble especially being confused seeing people talk about stuff online and I’m like ?? Where is this from. I also have Mark’s from NCT. I honestly don’t know why I have his I like him and all but honestly his bubble is very fun and entertaining (and fans never have to worry about him being mia he messages A LOT unless it’s obvious they’re busy on tour or something). There are groups I like. If I had the time money and caring capacity I’d probably get at least one person from all the artists on SM’s bubble. IMAGINE the price. And I know there are fans that have bubble for all nct members ??? 3.99 isn’t A LOT I guess if you have some form of money coming in and you only have one or two. But I wouldn’t blindly purchase. 3) with the blindly purchasing. I got Baekhyun’s because I really like him but he doesn’t talk THAT much. There are times when we’ll get a mini spam of ten messages once a month and that’s it. It’s kind of sporadic but there was a period where he didn’t talk much and I thought bubble was fun which is why I wanted someone else. I tried to see who talked the most because I didn’t want to pay to look at air (I wanted jisungs but apparently he didn’t talk a lot but that’s fine) which is why I ended up picking mark. But I would also say if you choose to get it pick someone you REALLY like. And I’m not talking like parasocial relationship like but someone you’d care to hear from. Like I said baekhyun is my all time favorite artist which is why I got his. EXO is the only boy group I Stan (Although riize is coming through) so I wouldn’t mind having all of their bubbles but tbh I just don’t particularly care to get the other members. I love red velvet. The only girl group I stan, but I just didn’t see their bubble being fun for me. Also, I had weverse a LONG time ago when it was still hybe artist but I recently downloaded it and EVERYONE is on there, SM, JYP, RBW like everyone. There’s really no point in bubble unless the artist doesn’t use weverse like exo (as of now-that I know of) for example. My biggest issue was with riize getting bubble because I do like all the members individually and I always said I’d get two but then I struggled but they’re very interactive on weverse. 4) with the interactions and double edged sword I agree. Personally if an idol isn’t active on bubble that’s fine to me IF I don’t pay for them. That’s why I googled to see. Of course there are periods when they aren’t that active. There was a time when I was getting notifications from Mark everyday for like a month it was crazy but then there was like a month of silence. But some just don’t talk often. And that’s fine you can not get them or cancel, but like you said for the idols it’s just a big group chat. If you ask a question individually and they do happen to see it they’ll respond. Like once randomly I typed to baekhyun try yoga or Pilates or something and he started talking about it. He didn’t know it was ME but he saw the message. But I feel like weverse is better because idols directly reply to ACTUAL people. Granted all fans can’t have their questions answered but it’s more “personal” than bubble. But also the hate. While weverse gets hate as well it’s very jarring when people purchase an idols bubble to solely send hate. That’s why jongdae doesn’t have bubble and it’s kind of sad. I mean I wouldn’t be surprised that some idols don’t talk much mainly because fans can be annoying childish and mean. I can’t see all of the messages on bubble but on weverse I see some comments and I’m like ?????? Why WOULD you do this and it’s said when obviously you can report them but mass hate will just come back. It sucks that fans will happily defend an idol for having a life when people call them out for clubbing/dating but get mad when they don’t text on a group chat app. Which brings me to the last point. I like K-pop and I think the thing I like the most and most of us like even if we don’t admit it or know it (I didn’t even realize it until recently again with riize I need to stop watching their videos😂) is how close idols feel to us. Like I love listening to Ariana grande, Taylor swift, Beyoncé. I know jack shit about them. I literally don’t know those people and would not defend anything about them other than their talent. But why am I upset when someone doesn’t like a group I like yannoe. Think Nicki Minaj as well. A lot of her fans have parasocial relationships with her and she 100% enforces it so it’s not odd to see them act a fool. Like I have ALWAYS found it cringe when idols say “you can’t date anyone but me, only I’m oppa/noona, only Stan us, we’re your boyfriends/girlfriends, the fans are our partners” like 😰🥶🥶 I have always hated that. K-pop wasn’t that THING for me like how say one direction was when I was 11 but some people have too much of an emotional attachment to idols and I don’t want to blame idols but they are marketed and manufactured to be our boyfriends/girlfriends/sons/daughters whatever. It’s inevitable for people to get attached. I keep mentioning riize because I lien K-pop but I’ve never cared to watch like those little vlogs or whatever they post or keep up with anything besides the music but I do watch riize’s little series thing they have and I HATE that I like wonbin and Anton a little to much because they remind me of me like they remind of people I’d be friends with and sometimes I have to take a step back and think “wait, they don’t know me. I don’t know them” but it’s so easy to get looped into this whole parasocial thing in K-pop and again I also mentioned Nicki Minaj but I hate that idols can’t have a “close” relationship with fans without it being taken too far and with apps like bubble (especially because they input your name. Like for example, mark will say “Kiara get some rest” and I’m like ?? But it’s not HIM it’s like they autoput your name in-I don’t think I’ve ever seen baekhyun do it save for when you first get the app and they put your name in-also kind of telling how as soon as you get it they message you like ?) and even weverse it’s just bringing that parasocialness to a head that’s about to explode

it would actually be great if you did a video specifically on parasocial relationships in kpop. some fans do take it too far. like when they talk with idols or joke with them in person like they know them already. your idol is meeting you for the first time but you’re insulting them by using an inside joke between the members. you can usually make jabs and insult someone close jokingly but it doesn’t come off the same from a completely stranger. even if you’re a fan you should be acting like you’re meeting your idol for the first time and showing politeness and respect. also idols are already posting a lot on social media and constantly promoting, so i don’t feel like i’m ever missing out and need these kinds of messaging apps. maybe when the group is on a hiatus it makes sense but now i’m well fed lol

don't the idols get like a huge cut? how the IDOLS are taking our money!! I love them but they are in on this haha. also i just follow accounts on insta that post all their bubbles for me...for FREE. there's no point sending a message to them personally, they'll never care unless all the fans collectively agree to say one thing lol. but the exclusive pictures are definitely entertaining for certain groups. nct is very unhinged there sometimes.
