How KFC Was Made from a Gas Station Chicken Recipe
Making the perfect fried chicken as we know it - juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside - used to be a luxury. But a man named Harland Sanders changed that after mastering his own recipe - inside a gas station.

It is sad that Kentucky Fried Chicken is gone. When they changed to to KFC they shortcutted everything from the way the Chicken was deep-fried to the way the mashed potatoes were made. I was fortunate to have worked at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in the early 80's.

What an amazing incredible entrepreneurial story !!! very inspiring, never give up on your passion is the surest way to succeed
1973 in Lexington Kentucky, I lived next door to an elderly lady named Eula Gibson. In the early days, Colonel Sanders employed her to create recipes for his restaurant in Corbin Kentucky. In 1973, only 3 people knew the recipe for KFC chicken… Sanders, Eula Gibson and one other (unknown). It is highly likely that Mrs. Gibson created the recipe and not Colonel Sanders. As a kid, she would make KFC chicken at home for me and her 7 year old grandson Ford Gibson. 🍗🍗🍗
Mom: Look! You can't even get a job at age 10! Sanders: * helps millions of teen get a job decades later *

Unlike any other competitor, whose chicken can be easily replicated at home, KFC has stood the test of time. To make it at home, you have to get the seasoning right(which is still a secret). That's not just a mystery (though some have gotten mighty close), but also is a question of the adhesion. It has to blend into the flour perfectly also. Then, you have to cook it right. The cooking time has to be precise. Most of all, you have to have a pressure cooker. Good luck on that; they're expensive, hard to set up, hard to clean, and hazardous if you're not careful.
Respect. Harlan's autobiography is a must read for any who enjoyed this video. It will always be a favorite of mine

An American original. While stationed at Ft Knox in 1971 more than one of my barracks mates recounted meeting him on the streets of Louisville. Impeccably dressed in white linen with walking cane and holding a mastery of cuss words. Even GI's cussed out by the Colonel thought it the highlight of their time.

Because of him and the KFC, he inspired not just the fried chicken and other foods but other future food stations we all know today such as McDonald's and Philippines' own Jollibee.
Wow, persistence and determination.
I will never forget - it was around the time of the great 3 day black out of 1977 in New York City. I was 10. My father said “come on, let’s go get some KFC.“ We walked through the door, and there was the colonel greeting everyone. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was the first time I probably saw anyone from TV live. And this was… In the Bronx! I actually shook his hand. 😀

@Ataur Rahman No it's not. Today's KFC is terrible. When the Colonel was alive the pieces of chicken were bigger and meatier, less greasy, less salty, and tasted 10 times better. I know, I worked in one of the first Canadian KFC franchises in 1964.
@scanbear9863

Yup most people around now never tasted real KFC. It tasted nothing like now. There was literally no better F chicken anywhere. It was so juicy and tasty, it went bad around early 90's. The mash was actual potato, fresh corn, and the biscuits were fluffy. People don't realize that the horrible fast food of today got popular because it used to taste better than gourmet.

@@kurorreach I'll say this, even I notice a drop in quality of the meat from my childhood in the 90s to now. KFC uses the saddest chickens nowadays nothing but veins.
He had his chicken In Marc's Big Boy. He used to drive across country to test the chicken recipe. Making sure the right spices were used. Mom and I were taste testers.
My childhood, KFC was always my favorite and we only got to eat it when our parents got paid. It was a luxury and we loved it. I also heard in Japan KFC is an important part of Christmas it's not Christmas without KFC❤️
Inspiring story. Reminds us to never give up.
Sanders is the example of each person has their own timeline of success. No one has the right to question why you're delayed in success.
