How JNCO Jeans Made Absurd Fashion History

JNCO jeans (JNCOs, if you're nasty) epitomized a brief, strange moment in fashion history. They were "countercultural" jeans marketed towards suburban tweens. JNCOs made adults angry, but what might be odder is that they made so many young people happy.
Erin dives into the history of JNCO jeans, from their iconic logo to their fall from wide-legged grace. She hits on the comfortability of JNCOs, the different meanings ascribed to the acronym (?) JNCO, and attempts to fit an entire JNCO leg over her head (OK, not that last one ... though she did request that we make that a part of the video).

I remember my parents wouldn't buy me them. But I DID have baggy cargo shorts. So what I'd do is stand in front of a mirror in the bathroom, then pull them down to my knees so the bottom of the shorts completely covered my skate shoes. I still remember how cool I felt. Until I had to pull my shorts back up and leave the bathroom.

You missed some of the appeal to this style of Jean. In the 90s we had to buy pants 2-5 sizes too big to get a sag going. This left the pants below the butt and held on by a belt and a prayer and constantly being adjusted. When this style came along the pant could be worn at the waist comfortably but the feeling in the legs was about the same as with sagged pants and the pocket placement was the same as sagged pants. It was incredibly comfortable! Though, heaven help you if it rained and all that denim got wet. Cuff them. Pin them. Hit a rave for 12 hours. The Jean cargo style naturally gave way to the khaki cargo style. The draw string was practical in theory. It let you have the large leg and cinch down to not pass around the shoe (though, personally, I never really tightened mine and I found the draw string itself was always in the way). All of the jeans I had were of this style from about 1997 when I first found a niche shop that carried them to about 2002 or so and it became hard to find them. Once you had them, you didn’t really need to buy more and more just because more were out. I mean, that’s not how anyone I knew bought clothes. I transitioned away from them when what I had wore out and I couldn’t get replacements. I would have kept buying them if they were available. The skinny jeans of the 2010’s were disgusting and most modern pants are just too narrow for my preferences. I’m not going to go back to buying extra large clothing, but I do prefer a very relaxed fit.

I don’t want to come in and say be positive or anything but I do think that the more you can do to psyche yourself up the more it’ll come off in your delivery and jazz.
