How does it work? Well it's another bullshit invented to prevent people to actually learn to angle. Because unlike AP that bounces and shatters on angled ships or overpen superstructure, SAP just penetrates. Over and over again. Casualization of the game has begun with HE spammers. Now SAP and IFHE rework will enhance cancer in the game.

Love sap, love losing 8-12k hp a volley in my bbs. Love the fact most of my return volleys backat them are all over pens. Feels like any where you shoot a crusier now adays its just over pens. An of course thats 1-7k of damage for a 30 seconds reload...

lets wait almost a year after we introduce a new mechanic before we explain how it works!

Hey World of Warships, Maybe you can start a new kind of videos like HOW TO. For example it seems nice to me to see how to aim better or for example how to win more often. Such things like that.

They should put these videos into the game client and bundle them into a new Naval Academy course. It would be great for new players (like me!).

Will these SAP shells be added to other ships ? (Not only Italian)

Thats why you need expert loader, so that you can change to armor piercing when broadside appears

i love the venezia, it is asome if you hits an DD on 15km an makes 12k dmg or getting 10 hits on an cruiser on 18km with more than 8k dmg

I wonder if they make more new shell types.

It explodes, releasing a sticky sap that makes the target ship more flammable

I would keep the angle sharp when dealing with dds as they couldn't launch torps if I am at too sharp of an angle and fire SAP shells at em

@@NineKunGTH APDSDS stands for Armor Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot. Its a a tank shell for modern MBTs. and yea, it'll baically only punch a hole in the ship. APFSDS has no explosive filler which is what the normal AP shells have. think of HE as a shell filled to the brim with high explosives, while the AP is a APHE(Armor Piercing High Explosive), which pierces the armor, and THEN detonates

SAP rounds aren't the issue, it's the slow reloading times and reduced xp you get for using them.

@ Not at all! You don't get increase/decrease XP values based on using certain shell types. The XP amount you earn in the game is based on your performance (kills, potential damage, spotting damage, fire damage, flooding damage, caps/defense, overall main battery damage, etc). If he is getting less xp using SAP, he is most likely not hitting the ideal locations to maximize the damage output they inflict. Also, your not going to earn a lot of XP if all you do one thing only like farming battleships. Compared to someone else that focus on other targets like cruisers and destroyers, even works around the objectives for his/her team. There's also a lot of players (even to this day) that don't understand the mechanics behind all these shell types to use them at the right moment. So they usually spam one shell type only. I'm looking at you HE spamming Yamato!

@@i_termx_i3854 You do earn significantly less XP playing the ship. I play the ship like a beast and it still earns less compared to other Cruisers I play. The points you're expected to aim and hit at range usually miss and then when you're in close enough you only end up switching to AP anyways. It also has the problem with higher calibre BB's that when you're in close enough even when facing them directly on you're severely punished because they can still punch right through the armor, I had the same problem with the Hindy yet I can face directly on targets with my Colbert and or British cruiser and watch everything bounce away. The ship still needs work.

​@@AsttoScott It still comes down to your overall performance when playing any ship in this game, regardless how you think otherwise. There is no XP mechanic that determines your results based on any shell type alone. Cruisers are at the top of the chain (even battleships) when it comes to XP reward values due to the high DPM output they can put out in a short time span. The one class that suffers the most based on XP rewards is the carrier class. Also, it is a cruiser and like all cruisers they are going to get deleted if you expose yourself to a battleship (or any ship type) that can overmatch your armor when they start focusing you. I don't know why you think that's an issue. It sounds like a case of poor positioning on your part. That smoke consumable is there for you to use to help you disengage and retreat when needed. They have to be played carefully and use cover at all times (avoid being focus on) just like any cruiser that has thin armor. A lot of the ships in this line should not be played in open water exposing yourself, or played super aggressive in brawling situations.

Wait what? Less XP? Dunno about you but I find Venezia and Italian cruisers overall pretty high xp earners even when you do meh rounds... just look at servers stats and you will see they are all in the top end including premiums.. only exception being the Genova which is truly a very bad ship with that 20 sec reload..

Cant wait for explanation of Super Biased Shells of upcoming Russian CAs.

3:11 This is why the internal designs of these ships (and the armor plates) are important, if more ships had these design details, SAP would be much less effective. Personally, I've found the SAP damage numbers to be a little bit too high compared with HE and come with very few drawbacks.

@Anime 60FPS It's light cruisers until T6. Fire is useful for any cruiser, but is especially useful for light cruisers, since their shells dont penetrate that much. I burned down many BBs with the Nurnberg. the same thig with the Montecuccoli is impossible.

This knowledge of power is only power when you can play the game. I can't even run it on this pc!

I like my Venezia! She's very strong in CB, SAP will melt a Stalingrad at range.

shooting on broadcast cruiser, SAP is also most better than normal AP. Because normal AP is often Buggy and goes overpen on citadel.

This should help me on World of warship blitz

Normal AP rules, but with slightly different parameters. For instance, the ricochet angle is smaller than normal; instead of having a chance to ricochet at 45 degrees going to a guaranteed ricochet at 30, RN CL AP *starts* at 30 degrees and guarantees at 15. This means that your shells are less likely to bounce, and will instead go through the penetration checks. The fusing parameter is reduced; I don't know the numbers, but RN CL AP doesn't need as much armour to arm the fuse. This results in fewer overpens, even when shooting at BB superstructures. The fuse timer is shorter. The shell detonates in half the time, once again meaning fewer overpens.

Wow this is late. And can we get bbs driving shells or a fix to the problem of over pens i over pened a tir 10 russian BB armor belt form 15km i was in a yamato how does that make sense

Well overpen are actually quite standard in naval warfare especially when you think about the layout of armour during the 40s

Do something to improve the Italian line because, as it is, it's practically unplayable until T7 and still subpar from then on. Sluggish turret turn rate, long reload time and ridicolous detection ranges without any real reason.

A guaranteed citadel shot is the only time its worth it really. Both shells have roughly the same max damage. So using AP is a real gamble. I've had a broadside Des Moines, I think it was, and got 10 overpens. Was a bit ridiculous, if I had just used SAP I woulda done far more reliable damage. So I've found that other Italian cruisers, Smolensk, Colbert, Moskva, Stalingrad and Mino were very easy to get a citadel. But you have to put it exactly where the citadel is. A little high and you'll just get overpens. So when it comes down to it you wanna use AP when you got a nice flat broadside and are shooting something with a citadel above water and you have to put the shells right into the citadel spot, which can be difficult and conversely easy since the shells are so fast and stick together well, especially at close range accuracy is huge.

yeah as i am a DD player i almost never want to fight a Italia ship.....

Meanwhile in reality, Venezia's get max damage when their shells skim the side of a completely bow on ship. All they do is shoot the super-structure of any ship.

So basically SAP are the WOT HEAT shells with the only differences been, they don't have an 130% extra perforation factor and 0 disadvantage compared to the WOT AP or APCR shell. In other words: SAP shells are like HEAT shells but they aren't broken or P2W.

I'm afraid I dont understand the calculation in this video. Venezia has got 203mm shells. When I divide this by 14.3 I get a result of 14mm (203mm / 14.3 = 14mm). This Armor thickness can be penetrated by Venezia. Every Armor of Yamato if much thicker than 14mm. So how can it penetrate the 32mm bow armor of Yamato? I would be very happy if someone would explain this to me.

sap has fuse system as he. a contact, then it's armed. standard ap shell need to sustain a certain amount of pressure before it's armed.

How to use SAP is to load said shells onto a spaghetti boat surrounded by thinner armor than the Russian ships and call it the Italian cruiser and the give it the only thing that has better chance of surviving than the ship itself lol because 9 times out ten the shells will penetrate and have a nice blanket of armor around then the ship it came from lol

Well, there's also their exhaust smoke generators that let them emit smoke and grants them concealment while running at full speed. That's also unique to Italian cruisers.

I'm bad at math so I still didn't know when will my SAP do zero damage to Cruisers.

Easy explanation:just aim on the bow or the back of a ship, shooting the broadside of a ship would only penetrate its 1st layer armor (they have 2 layers of armor,1 is for the citadel armor)

@@Abed1984 Take note that the 'amazing' penetration angles are only on the tier 10 and get progressively worse down the line to the point here any reasonably angled target just becomes impossible to damage except with the torpedoes... brilliant game design there where only the tier 8-10 have a somewhat usable ammo...
