I would just comment though that the video's audio mixed killed me at the end, the music comes in way too loud compared to the rest of the video and made me need to turn it down. Just worth noting for next time, otherwise it was filmed and produced great too!

I have had belts like this they last from 5 to 10 years but then the stitching gives way from abrasion from things hung from the belt also the holes start to get elongated and evenly tare through. My current 12 year old belt is made from 1 piece of thicker Bison leather with steel gromits around every hole and those holes go the full distance of the belt , there are 5 large rivets that hold the stainless steel buckle in place and the fold over is 110mm long. I guess if you baby anything, it could last a lifetime, but that's not what belts are for !

Are you talking about a belt made by Nicks, or similar quality, or a cheaper leather belt you can buy anywhere? I have a red wing belt that has lasted me almost a decade, wearing it every day for work, as a tradesmen in industrial construction also. The holes haven't stretched, and other than the leather getting softer, it is barely showing any signs of wear and looks like it will last another 10 years easily. I'm willing to bet a belt made by Nicks would be just as tough.

@ve5vv I'm going to guess quality of leather, and better stitching. I'm no belt expert, and I only have a sample size of 1 for my experience with a good belt, but it's made a huge difference having a good belt. I used to always buy cheap belts and would need to buy a new one every year or two. I only bought the red wing belt because it was the only belt my size at the work clothing store I went to, and I had no other options. I didn't really want to spent almost $100 at the time on a belt, but in the long term it was a great investment!

  • @woltews

@@chermanch69 I find the less stress you put on them the longer they last ( higher quality ones last longer under a given amount of stress ) and abrasion like from keeping things on your belt is extremely hard on stitches ( like if you have pouches for tools lethermen , pen light , knife , epi pe....) Thats why I got a belt with no stitches. A lot of them are made reactive metal fittings like carbon steel , bras , bronze , pot mettle or mystery alloy which is great if you are not around salt water . I got stainless steel because dont want to modify my life to help my clothing

@@nederlanditisnederlanditis5529 leather pants are very different than a leather belt. 😂 If your leather pants were as thick as a good belt you wouldn't be able to walk in them. @@nederlanditisnederlanditis5529 I wasn't speaking specifically about the belt in this video. Make a belt out of 15 ounce thick leather, then make a belt out of 10 ounce thick leather backed with 5 ounce thick oak tanned leather. The 2-ply will stretch less. It's the better way to make a belt. As far as this belt specifically? I don't know. Nick's thickest leathers are about 8 ounces I think, which is pretty damn thick generally speaking. What do they back it with? 🤷‍♂️ I'm gonna GUESS 5 ounce oak tanned leather? Resulting in 13 ounce thick? If so, I would rather have a 13 ounce 2-ply than a 13 ounce single piece. The 13 ounce 2 ply would be stronger and stretch less.

I'm currently wearing a belt I made from a 12-13oz fun grain blank purchased from Weaver for about $22. It's nice and I like it a lot, but it's not nearly as pretty as this.
