When I chose exile and willingly became an orphan, rather than suffer the insanity and abuse of my three bloodlines, I got my very own Orphan Grinder™ and I shit you not, I thought it was Christmas! But it wasn't, it was around April sometime and also I'm pagan, so Christmas is just another date in a list of stolen holidays that remind me of how utterly ridiculous all our made up traditions really are.

Fun fact. Those sugar percentages you showed is only representing the added sugars. That bottle is actually 292%. I know this because they intentionally don't label the total sugar content to lie to you about how much sugar you actually intake. I know this because products exist that don't tell you the sugar contents exactly. a product that had 53g total sugar but 0g of added for a total of 0%, which means that it only counts added sugars not total meaning the total doesn't represent that added sugar, they are separate entities and noone talks about it.

  • @averagecarguy420

Labels rarely exclude total sugars. Like the one in the video, it shows total sugars, then added sugars. If you want sugar labeling to be better, they should replace the added sugars section with types of sugars (glucose, fructose, etc), as that is more important.

I'm either more, or less, clever than Huggbees thinks I think I am, because when we saw the guy adding the bag of lime, I thought that the next step in making sugar was "add the sugar from a bag of sugar", like the time I found a recipe for wafer cookies, and step one was "get a package of wafer cookies" Edit: I misheard, it is actually lime, not lye that is added.

This episode was so crazy it made me watch the actual how it’s made. The amount of science and engineering that goes into creating something as simple sugar is mind blowing. Sugar is something we don’t think twice about now. But granulated sugar when it was first discovered was literally worth it’s weight in precious gems. A tea spoon of the stuff was available only to kings and lords. Later on we invaded entire islands, enslaving their population. We kidnapped slaves from Africa that would work themselves to death day in and day out, just so we can have our tea a little sweeter. Sugar was the pinnacle of luxury and now we buy a 2kg bag for £1.25. It’s mad.
