About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

What I'm digging about this plugin is that they didn't do the usual thing of trying to make it look like an amp. That's pretty refreshing to see. Granted most plugins are good at giving you a visual cue as to what it's supposed to be emulating, but it's nice to see a break from that trope. Sounds great!

Thank you Glenn. You are doing good work. The fact that you are an influencer means many people will listen to you and you are telling them that software can get them great guitar tone. That means there is just that much more headroom for broke kids to expand on their hobby or passion. I’m from more of a punk rock background myself and you know that’s good news for me too. I’m all about hearing previously unheard voices. It’s good for people to hear from a working professional that there are high-quality options for people who can’t afford analog gear.

Match EQ .allows you to analyze and store the average frequency spectrum of an audio file as a template. You can apply this template to another audio signal so that it matches the spectrum of the original file. This is also known as a fingerprint EQ, where one sonic fingerprint is applied to another signal.

Goddamn Glenn that sounds great and has immense functionality for the price. I'm mostly a blues, jazz and rock kind of guy but I like your content and it's inspired me to play, write and record heavier... only problem is the amps I own are suited more for clean tones but at that price it seems certainly worth jumping into for when I want to venture outside my comfort zone! Thanks! Edit: I've also bought amp sims for 3X that price and was severely disappointed *cough* UAD *Cough*

Both Rhino and Mammoth are fantastic, I've used them on quite some songs now, you won't regret them for the price they are. I like them better then some of the Neural DSP things to be honest. These plugins are so versatile, if you get into plugins/recording, get Rhino and Mammoth and get whatever you lack after that. The only thing I regret is that I got some of the Neural DSP plugins before I got these cause they never get used anymore.

Purchased. FANTASTIC interface and function. Has a built in 4 way IR x/y crossfader which you can import your own irs into, with great shaping capabilities. Has both an algorithmic and convolution engine with a bunch of great reverb IRs. Interface is super HD modern and NOT skeuomorphic (which is not only amazing but takes balls for a developer to do nowadays). It sounds amazing AND is cheap af. I guess I'll download the demo but I'm wondering aloud if it can produce tones that are less... I dunno... metal.

EDIT2: Wow..... i just started the trial, its absolutely fantastic. Already the origin sound, that is set when you start the amp for the first time, is amazing. Really great, ill surely buy it. Really fat sound. My concern that it would sound too modern was proven wrong. It has exactly that way of fatness that it makes it great for all power metal stuff. --- Looking good :-) I really prefer those single amp plugins a lot. I own quite a few more expensive tools, like the Helix Native or Guitar Rig. But so far i stuck with Audiority Valvestate Clone. It was 30 Euro but it beats all of the named ones, when it comes to certain sound preferences. I own the real Marshall Valvestate 8080 even but the clone is just as good. Basically unbelievable that a 30 Euro tool sounds nearly like a 1200 Euro Amp (back then). This one looks like another one of those easily affordable beasts. Thanks for showing. Maybe a tad bit too modern for my old school stuff that i usually play (everything from Metallica, over Megadeth to Death (the band)). But the part around 9.50 sounds great enough for that too. 40 Dollar. hmm :-) Im tempted. Edit: oh, there is trial even! Gonna try that right now.

What kind of Mac do you have? What is your latency in reaper? I assume you're latency is super low like one or two ms?

After getting Mammoth a while back I was so in love with it that when they came out with Rhino I bought it without even thinking twice. Honestly? Ehhh I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's feature packed and done very well but the tones just aren't there for me. I love amp sims and I'm not silly enough to expect "true tube warmth" or any of that nonsense but even still Rhino sounds, dare I say fake in some strange way I can't put my finger on. Glen definitely makes it sound alright but even in that I can still hear it. Is it a bad tone? No. I think it's just a preference thing. Even though I don't use Rhino much I still think it was a good purchase since it's a unique sound I might call upon in the future. Either way it's worth the money for 40 bucks.

I agree with you. So much hype and it just sounds awful, like 1980s first attempts of digital distortion. I couldn't possibly get a single useful sound out of it. Considering there are far, far superior free sims I think $40 is way overpriced.

@@poulwinther I disagree on some level. Yeah, some of the tones are really bad but it wasn't very hard to edit them and make it sound way better. 40 dollars for all the features it has is nowhere near overpriced

Wow did you practice? Your right arm works way better than it used to, it seems. This plugin sounds pretty wild, that's a bargain
