Another thing you could do, is take all your money out including overdraft (be careful not to get hit by overdraft fees) then invest that money as well or put it in another bank account with good interest

pro tip...get to know the bank manager well. I had a fantastic bloke in lloyds at york, who bent rules to help me out. Most bank staff are clueless box tickers, but some with 15 yrs exp can recall when local branches made lending decision, not some computer or central office.

tip part 2........if you find a flexible manager.....take 2k of the student loan money, at the start of each term.......and buy....(gov)gilts....www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/fixed-interest-securities-gilts-and-corporate-bonds this is then classed as security against a loan....you can borrow agaisnt it.......use the loan to pay for expenses that term. Rinse repeat every term....reinvest the gilt interest in shares or womble farming coops, or bitcoin or the Grimsby Porn insdustry, as you see fit.

It's an amazing account, you can earn up to £1000 per year (you need to save 4k though). They basically give you 25% of whatever you save. The catch? You can only use saved money for buying house ( or after retiring). I'm buying next year so no brainer for me.

If you do freelance work and declare income register a company. Pay yourself through a company (minimum wage depending on turnover) and pay out in dividends end of financial year. Providing you are in tax band one after all earning you pay a lower rate of tax (7.5%) on your dividend payout.

I don’t want to bash your process and I’m not sure how interest rates work in other countries, but I’m assuming they’re very similar to the U.S. But wouldn’t have to invest in an asset that would not only return a profit greater than .25% (like you said is the average bank interest rate), but wouldn’t you also have to look for an asset that would return greater profit than your loans interest rate? Usually student loans have very very very high interest rates, much greater than the stock market could return unless your Warren Buffet. So wouldn’t it make more sense to simply return your unused loan funds within one year of taking the loan out of you know you won’t need it? Sure you may earn a few hundred here and there with your method, but you’d be paying back THOUSANDS in interest to the student loan servicer in the years after college. Maybe I’m wrong but just a thought

The help to buy ISA has been superseded by the lifetime isa and it's better in every way possible. You can put up to £4000 a year in it, and you get 25% additional from the government for free (you get it straight away unlike help to buy when you get it at the end). You can use it to buy your first house or for retirement. Other restrictions do apply such as the house must be under £450000 in London or £250000 otherwise. But I recommend looking into it. You can open a stocks and shares LISA to invest it as well.

If you were to invest £2,000 into BP or a huge dividend stock just days before the ex dividend and then sell it shortly after then you would still receive the dividend and on £2000 it’s between £50-60! Admittedly more risky because in them few days BP may go up a lot or down a lot in price but considering your money was only working for a few days it’s a nice return of 5% plus.

The problem with the ISAs are that you have to only use them for House Deposit or saving for later (much much later...... like retirement). If not Government will give a 25% charge on withdrawals. Are there any good accounts while living in uni? Something to give us more than the pathetically low interest rates and/or freebies and monetary return in another way? Anyone can make a video, copy pasting from other sources, its the ones who give good, viable and preferably 1st hand research that are of any significance.

I would be investing, I see no point obtaining a mortgage until at least my late 20s or early 30s, it massively restricts your mobility of labour and career flexibility. Just rent until you have a long term career and long term career prospects, which is usually once you get around your late 20s/early 30s. That’s my advice.

This is flawed. Student loans have an interest rate of 6%. Name a stable reliable ISA that makes 6% or more annually. Unless you intend on not making enough to repay the loan off this is a bad idea.

International students getting no loans and having to pay twice the fees honestly drives me nuts. On top of paying for our visa and housing. Honestly want to know why we’re charged so much more 🤔

  • @willb8841

    @willb8841

The administrative work and visa applications take more time and cost more than what we need to do for domestic students. We need extra teachers for ESL/ELL classes and services that domestic students don’t need. Many schools have an international coordinator or something similar who needs to be hired and paid. There may be extra insurance costs for students from overseas. The school may need to pay a translator for documents, the website, report cards, etc. The school may need to pay an interpreter to communicate with parents, both during the admissions process and while the student is at the school. International students have to pay for housing, whether it is with a host family or in a dorm. Local students live at home. These are some of the reasons but there are many more , e.g. the families not paying any tax to the state whereas domestic students families do , which contributes to the universities funding etc.

I bought ETH and XRP during the March crash. £8k worth lol. Converted into BTC. Now have 1.5BTC and now working on future indexes. I’m not gonna invest into ISA Stocks and Shares(I had a vanguard account sold everything) only cuz it will crash next year 100000%. Why don’t you trade options mate, much more quick money. Just make sure your expiry is long and buy into the strike price close as possible. I think everything is still bullish for the next couple of months, so expiry of 15thJan2021 maybe a bit expensive. Also, ISA Stocks and Shares is kinda slow and most of the times good if you trade large sums like 10k plus. AMD is worth buying btw

@@Claireradusha99 you mean besides potentially being forced out of or forced to delay the literal defining moment of your financial evolution? A college degree is on average worth over 500k more than simply not having one, say you invest your 40k nest egg you built against having to work at Walmart into some 'safe' returns, and you get amazing returns, say 20 apr during college, 48k, 57k, 69k, 84k, you've over doubled your investment! Congratulations! However should you take a long position and need to actually withdraw any of your money, ding taxes! that's just a normal bad scenario, what if your investment doesn't actually pan out and your hard strapped for cash? Assuming the difference in salary is probably about 30-40k per year, that means if you have to delay your college for even a year because of a poor financial decision you've not only lost money you never had, you've effectively negated any possible gain whatsoever.

Rick Pascua I don’t think you under Stand what he’s referring to. In the Uk it’s different, so the student loan he’s talking about isn’t tuition but money to live with. And as he said he had money saved from his job he had spare to do whatever with.

  • @beastkaybyt2865

@@zzzz-fk8ce we don't ever see the university money, it goes straight from the government to the university. The money he's talking about is for our maintenance. It's good because let's say you take out a loan of 8000, but only need 5000 to live on. You have an extra couple thousand to invest in, this is why many students do invest. If they lose their 2000, they have 1000 spare for emergency and have already covered their living costs. If they do well, they can double their money, so for students in the UK it's a win win situation. For students in the US, it's the worst thing to do and I agree.

Honestly, student don't 'feel' the debt when paying it back so I understand why some rather prioritise investment rather than paying it back. In addition, it gets written off after a certain amount of years especially if post-graduation you choose to work abroad and you only start paying it back once you earn a certain amount of money so in my opinion, I do not think the debt is anything to worry about. Given you are managing the finances well, You're fine.

You don’t have to pay it back til you earn like 25k, and if you haven’t payed it back within like 20 years it gets scrapped. Even when you do earn over 25k you won’t pay much monthly anyway
