How I Tackle Confetti (Without Losing My Mind!)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hi, diamond painting friends! Today I'm stopping in to share how I work on confetti-heavy canvases without the frustration of searching all over for random symbols. (If you're new to diamond painting, the term "confetti" refers to canvases with lots of color changes in a small area.) I hope you'll find this tutorial helpful if you love detailed canvases like I do!
I ordered this canvas as a custom from Ever Moment on Ali Express using public domain artwork I found here:

I really enjoyed this video, Jessica. I also love confetti,but approach it in a completely different way. That’s what’s so wonderful about diamond painting: each of us can make something beautiful without following a rule book. I think your video will help some people who do find confetti challenging. ❤️

Just found your channel and watched two videos done at later dates and really enjoyed them. I do my DP's in sections and sometimes confetti just puts me in the crazy house :). I am going to to try your way of dark to lighter for sure! I have found that for me I really look at an image for the right mix of confetti and blocking, but generally stay away from anything with huge areas of blocking. I am going to go back and watch your videos from the beginning. LOL. You are using my favorite white tray and I too have now purchased 2 pens from Jim's Handmade Pens. I am about to start my first Ever Moment and it is confetti heavy, so listening to you might get me through it! Thanks again Jessica! Stay safe.

Lori Willits Hi, Loree! I also avoid canvases with a lot of blocking. For me they just don’t render with enough detail. I hope you love your Ever Moment! This is turning out to be one of my very favorite canvases ever. 😀
I really appreciate your confetti explanation about shading and colors. I wasn’t sure how to tackle my second diamond painting because there is quite a bit of confetti and several color blocking areas. I’m still learning and loving every minute. Also, isn’t it funny how we were all sick in January and early February (whether you’re around kiddos or not).

Thanks! Yes, I definitely should have defined my terms right at the start!
Found this video as I’m currently working on a confetti-heavy section of my painting. Never thought to go from light to dark shades. However, since I’m using the CraftMates lockable containers, I choose one row of 7, and just work with all the colors in that row that might be in that section. I also have another storage system that uses the little tic tac containers. And with that system, I tend to work in color groups. I think I’ll try your method when I start on my next painting if it’s confetti heavy. Glad to know I’m not the only one who scratches her drills when trying to reposition them. ☺️

Ooobydoobydoo That sounds like a very good system! I think the sanity saving part of this method for me comes with finding colors that are close together, but everyone has their own way of working that is equally valid and fun for them. 😀 I wish you many happy years of diamond painting, and I hope to see you here again!
My first DP just arrived wahoo, just about to open the box, I will keep this tip in mind.

I'm really new to diamond painting, just starting on my first one yesterday, but so far I actually like the little confetti areas on my small painting. I've noticed they make fun shapes that are interesting to spot and fill in. On mine though I've gone rogue and followed the shade around half the painting which probably would be much more of a mess on a big canvas like yours😅

Lucy Hu Fun!!! Welcome to this fun craft!! I really enjoy confetti too!! 😀
I started diamond painting maybe 5-6 yrs ago as my best friend introduced me to it. I never really paid attention to whether I was doing color blocking or doing confetti. I'm weird I think. I pull down half a side of paper as most of my DP's are divided into 4-6 separate sheets covering the glue and work in areas that are around 1-2 inches by 5 inches or so at a time. I'll need to try this and see if it really makes a difference for me. I always zone out when doing these until I'm done with it. It's my quiet place I go to. I also cross stitch, so, maybe that's why I don't pay attention to the pattern formation? I also just came across your channel as well as some others because I was stuck in a rut and not doing well mentally or was not interested in doing anything at all. I have quite a backlog of paintings and was hoping by watching a few channels on my various hobbies would spark my interest back up.

Thanks for doing this video! I love the confetti as well and these tips are a big help. I don’t mind color blocking at times because I can make some progress but since I love detail, I tend to gravitate towards paintings with lots of confetti. I am still on the fence with Paddy Waxx because of the residue. It may be that we keep the house at 69 in the winter so hoping it will do better as it warms up. Love your pen and yes, I have an addiction there as well. Lol

Hi, Connie! Thanks so much! It's great having you here! The mesh rulers can come in different sizes, so I think for them to work you have to have the one that matches the spacing on your canvas. I agree, I much prefer the confetti to the color blocking. And I am terrible with multi placers, that probably doesn’t help.
@tinyworldsofwonder

Multi-placers are tricky. I feel like success with them depends so much on the exact size of the drills vs the printed canvas. :)
I notice you are working on your canvas flat on the table! When you get the bottom done where do you go next? I work o a little stand with a light box under, butI want to learn how to work on a big canvas! Have you done a video on how to challenge a large canvas step by step! Thank you so much! I really enjoy your videos! Ricki💙🧡💚💜❤️
@tinyworldsofwonder
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Ricki! I do normally work on a wooden tabletop easel, which helps me prevent neck strain, but for filming it's hard to get a good angle that way. :) I tend to work on about a 8" section along the bottom, then rotate to the side and do the same, move upside down and do about an 8" section, and then the other edge. On big canvases, I may have a center section, so then I use alligator clips to hold the canvas in place and tuck the bottom edge under my easel. That is a great video idea! :)
I’m using an iPhone 6+
I do cross-stitch embroidery, so dealing with confetti is old hat. I usually go with the largest block and work my way to the singles. But, you're right, pictures tend to have shading. Mmmmmm

Ooh, I bet your pen is lovely!! Are you using regular or super sticky? I find that with the regular, I have to use a very light touch for best results. I also have to warm the wax a bit if my house is cold or it lacks tack. Now that I've tried the Super Sticky, I love it for my single placer and regular scented for my multi-placer. :)

Hi, Genalyn! There are many fabulous, reputable companies out there. You might try Diamond Art Club, Diamond Dotz, Distracted by Diamonds, DIY Moon Shop, Royal Diamond Painting, or Treasure Studios Art to start. Diamond Dotz is especially great for beginners because they have some small sizes. :)
One tip I have which isn’t about how to work as much as it is about my equipment. So I have a large metal drawered organisation system with clear plastic open top containers I picked up somewhere along my craft journey. I used it on my first dp and wished I had some of the smaller plastic sets I see people have... till I worked confetti...... This system allows me to grab out an entire drawer and work out of the drawer itself because it’s shallow but longer. So I have a lot of time saved in not having to tray every single colour. I work in squares and so if 10 of the colours in the square are only 1-7 pieces, I just use from the drawer. If it’s more, I tray them. So maybe look outside the box in storage
