In this video I take you behind the scenes on a wedding photoshoot by a waterfall!
I begin the shoot by taking shots in natural light, before then introducing a MagBox MagBox Pro 24 and off camera flash. I also use a variable ND filter to allow me to shoot long exposures to make the water from the waterfall go smooth.
Using off camera flash and a variable ND filter allows me to create a unique and creative portraits.
A huge thank you to my fantastic models Alannah and Victor (you can follow them here: / alannah_victor ) for being so amazing on this shoot!

Thank you very much Tony! Yes, go for it, it's fun to take shots like these 🙂
Great video Neil, I noticed you were saying the timer is 10s and it is quiet long. Not sure if your camera also has this feature but mine is an a7iii and it allows for 2, 5 and 10s timer shots. That is typically what I use for composites. You can change the timer by moving the dial. Hope that helps! Keep up the great content!
Terrific 🎉 i would like to know how many stops of light the nd filter and around what time? Was sunny? 😊
Great video Neil. Days like these are when assistants come into their own. :)

I really love how you take stunning photos, I am interested in learning from but does it require to have a full frame camera?
@NeilRedfern
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Sean! No, not at all, as long as you have a camera which allows you to change the manual settings and use off camera flash, you will be good. Never fall in to the trap of thinking that you have to have the most expensive cameras, because you don't :-)

Nice Neil have you considered the Mag Beam works great with AD200 and no stand in the shot.:)
@NeilRedfern
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Simon! Yes, you are right, the mag beam is awesome. However, for close up portraits it wouldn't be great as the closer the light source the softer the light and the bigger the light source the softer the light. In an ideal world I would have lit them with the 42" MagBox but it was too hard to carry everything. The MagBeam is awesome if the couple are small in the frame though
Is it the flash that keeps motion blur from happening at .6 seconds shutter?
@NeilRedfern
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre - yes you are right, it is a combination of the couple staying relatively still and the flash 'freezing' them, which means you don't see blur. Plus my camera is on a tripod - those slow shutter speeds would not have been possible if I were hand holding my camera

Thank you very much Roberto! Hello from the UK!
hi Neil that tripod looks to short for the job or your not using it probably ?
@NeilRedfern
2 жыл бұрын
It was too short! The problem is to get to this location we had to walk up and down a huge hill so I went with a small and light tripod but yes, it would have been better to have had a taller tripod!
