How I set up the Austin Healey Sprite's front hinge bonnet for easy removal. Bugeye Build Ep. 140

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Access to the Frogeye's engine bay is much improved with a front hinged bonnet but there are still a couple of jobs that are made easier with it removed. Here's how I made the bonnet a "quick release" version. Now all I have to do is undo four bolts and unplug one connection.
Just a quick disclaimer... this may not be the "correct" way to do this job but it's how I did it with what resources I have on hand.

I kept the standard stock bonnet opening, so this is something I won’t have to go through, but I enjoy watching your method just the same. In 2016 I upgraded my race car (SCCA Spec Racer Ford) to what they called the Gen 3 engine package (1.6l Ford Sigma engine). That upgrade required the installation of an upgraded fuel pump that for inside the fuel cell. The electrical connection was like the one you used here. They called it a ‘Molex’ connector.

I like your plug much better than mine. I had looked into the Deutsche (sp?) plug but couldn't stomach the cost of the tool. I used a semi-trailer plug and connector and it's kinda clunky and large, even with the bulkhead fitting. (An RV or boat trailer plug didn't give me enough pins for my needs.) On my forward tilt, I used clevis pins with hitch pins, you don't need any tools. I also have gas struts, which are nice, but I haven't dialed in the right pressure (lifting force) yet,

Thanks Dan. I used the open connectors rather than the solid ones which meant I could use the less expensive crimper. I like the clevis pin idea although I don't anticipate having to take the bonnet off very often. The hinge set up I have from Q1 Classic Engineering used existing holes so I didn't have to drill anything out.

The connector will definitely help with serviceability. Once again your ingenuity pays dividends.

just a heads up i would check the load going through the pins as they are only rated at 7,5 amp i think the head lights would be more than that
