First time out of the garage under its own power and sorting out some bugs! Bugeye Build Episode 132

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Frogeye takes its first spin around the block in this video. Discovered the radiator cap was not correct and the generator wasn't generating. While checking out the generator I discovered that the main shaft was bent at the tail end where it mates with the tachometer drive which is why that drive failed!
Thank you to Chris Sneddon in Portland OR for sending me a replacement tachometer drive and to a subscriber from Virginia Beach VA for sending the generator my way.
Thanks to Dave Wilks and crew at ‪@bowestmotors110‬ for their excellent service with the pre-registration inspection.
I picked up the radiator cap at RockAuto.com: tinyurl.com/5h8jmuae
It's also available on Amazon

I used Pico 3157-BP 3/8" female electrical connectors. Here's the closest I could find on Amazon

The car is running well now but I'm sure that there will be other little things come up along the way.

    It's finally on the road and at the point where you start to think that all the work has been worth it. You have already answered the query I was to raise about weather protection. I look forward to that being resolved. In the meantime you can still drive it on sunny days. Interesting, your hassles with the generator. Brings back memories as I had numerous problems with them on my cars many years ago. I also had similar problems with the tach drive. It really does make sense to replace the generator with an alternator, particularly seeing your car is negative earth.

  • @EconoboxGarage

    I am considering possibly converting to an alternator at a later date. It's one of the changes that does have a bit of a domino effect to consider.

    @@EconoboxGarage You got that right Ian. Obviously it also means changing the tach to an electronic one and then you might also want to change the speedo so it matches. Having said that, Bugeyeguys have an electronic tach which matches your speedo but no doubt it is very expensive.

    Congratulations on the first drive. I'm sure yo will have many more less "interesting" ones in the future. In a comment a while back you said you had kept track of your expenditures and might do a video. I would like to see that as my current, much less ambitious, project is coming to an end and I might like to do a Bugeye next.

    Hey! CONGRATULATIONS, Ian!!! Three years of devout labor lead to that glorious moment of taking the Bugeye out on the road. Of course, it wasn’t without a handful of gremlins that you had to address. I think that’s just the nature of these little cars. Anyway, very excited and happy for you that you’re able to get the car on the road, and with a little bit of sports car driving weather left before you’ll have to store it away for the winter. I have to ask…. What’s going to become of your videos? I’ve grown so accustomed to watching them over the last three years. Will you keep producing them with driving, maintenance, and repair episodes or is this the end of the line?

  • @EconoboxGarage

    @EconoboxGarage

    11 ай бұрын

    Thanks Joel. I'm sure they will be a gremlin or two to sort out in the not too distant future. As for future videos I have side curtains to refurbish, a new soft top to install and an original factory hardtop to restore! There's lots to film with just those items and I have a couple of other ideas to try out. I may even do a couple of episodes featuring the turbocharged Ford Festiva that made a cameo in this one! I also plan to do some driving videos. Those would most likely show up in the spring once our driving season starts back up.
