WHY? Why is the Econobox Garage called the Econobox Garage? I'm glad you asked.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Many have asked why the channel is called the Econobox Garage when the main topic is a Bugeye Sprite. Well, you need wonder no more.
When I first started the channel it was going to be a supplement to our Econobox Café blog. That was started to document our adventures with the Festiva and to share articles, photos and other information pertaining to the so-called “econoboxes” of the eighties and nineties. Although I did get one video up showing a drive in the Festiva we owned at the time, the channel never really went anywhere. Then came the Bugeye! The premise was that the Econobox Café, the blog, was where I would write about the cars and the Econobox Garage, the KZread channel, would be where any work would be done!
Another aspect of the 'econo' side of things is to show how I do what I do as economically as possible. That mindset can apply to any aspect of automotive work whether it's on a Festiva or a Bugeye!

Just a quick disclaimer... this may not be the "correct" way to do this job but it's how I did it with what resources I have on hand.

Very cool. I've wanted a Festiva for at least a decade, either B6D or B6T.

Thanks Ben. This car has been a lot of fun to drive! If I were to build another Festiva I would probably go with the B6D.

That’s a real international car! I can see where you got a lot of your experience from before tackling the Bugeye. Restoring the body of the Festival should be a piece of cake compared to the Sprite though.

Thank Gareth. Body panels for the Sprite are way easier to get than those for the Festiva so there would be a lot of patch work and fabrication to do.

What a blast of a car. Those gauges really fit well on/in that dashboard. "You're spare parts, bud!" As the Canadians say. But this is a beast. I'll bet it would be great at autocross.

Thanks Ken. It is a blast to drive. And to see how many 'spare parts' I used on this project checknout this post..www.econoboxcafe.com/2018/12/theres-parts-from-how-many-cars.html?m=1

@@EconoboxGarageme naming my Midget Frankie must have amused you, considering there's only three other cars' parts in mine

Mystery solved! Thanks Ian. Rust free shell...? That will be a tough find. Repairing the rust might not be economically viable. A suggested option next car - consider a 2005/2006 Mini Cooper S (R53). They are easy to work on, a total blast to drive (it is basically an adult sized gokart) and the aftermarket supports the R53 with parts. I have rebuilt five R53's all in my single car garage space - similar space to yours. I came close to buying an R53 iwith the Spec I wanted in Canada however having the shipped down to Minneapolis MN but the import costs were too high so I needed to pass in it. I follow a KZread channel @RegardingAutomobiles - same set up - single car garage - You would like Phil - seems like a good guy.

You're welcome! I will probably have to go to Arizona, Texas or California to get a solid car to work with. Still early in the planning stages so I guess anything could happen.

@@EconoboxGarage well - my current 2006 Mini Copper S came out of Seattle Washington and has zero, and I mean ZERO rust on it. You could also open a free Copart account and save a search for specific years and locations you are looking for. You could even just have “mechanical” repair needed cars return in your search.
