How I Raised $650 Million For My Food-Saving Start-Up | Founder Effect
James Rogers, founder of Apeel Sciences, learned that one of the main causes of global hunger isn’t that we as a species aren’t capable of growing enough food, it’s that so much of it goes bad before it can be consumed.
The reason food goes bad is fairly simple: Oxygen comes in, water goes out. If he could find a way to stretch that out, he might be able to make a dent in global hunger.
James thought, if we could slow the process of steel from oxidizing, why couldn’t we do the same for a ripe avocado?
Here’s how Apeel became a $2 billion start-up looking to end world hunger.

I do think this is a problem that has already been solved, but I can be wrong. In the Netherlands for years, most fruits have this 'edible-coating' that extents the shelf life. it is also widely used in the export of fruits. What differs in its product (I think) is it is plant-based or made with plants for plants. in short, hats off

Where? Your comment sounds like pure whitenoise. In many places it's not a distribution problem, it's food expense problem. Under colonialism many tropical countries were disincentivized from growing food and their people were forced to work on cocoa/pineapple/sugar plantains for Europeans through the hut tax system (i.e. slavery). Now many tropical countries import food while their farms are growing coffee for Western business men, as they fund non-profits looking to solve world hunger. Virtuous cycle ain't it.

@@uoohknk6881 if it’s an expense problem then why have people been starving since we’ve been writing history? Lack of money? Lack of room? Lack of resources? (We can engage and I think that we can learn from anyone but if we’re not trying to engage or trusting to learn, and in turn we are only trying to destroy (my views) and destroy (my questions), and destroy (my opinion) then I won’t engage)

As someone with intense food allergies i would love to see the ingredients involved and to see this produce labeled.

To make my vegetables last longer, I put them in an airtight container filled with water with a little salt.
